That does sound cool, but it also sounds like a hell of a lot of work. If I have to be honest (and when am I not), that much work doesn't sound like it would be worth the payoff you get...

It wouldn't be much work, assuming that glow is created by the engine but not a separate entity attached to the gun model.

No, it doesn't charge like the A42 laser. Hit the GRS9's weapon special and you'll know what I'm talking about. Something like that, but a second long.




It would be no problem at all. I could probably do it if I knew a little more about emitters. The GRS9 already does something similar with the laser.

This also happens with the flamethrower's barrel when you fire: The heat makes the metal look hotter and hotter.

Maybe there could be a laser weapon that has two fire modes: the first is a single 1/2 second pulse doing medium damage. The second is a continous beam that does less dammage per second, but has the potential of igniting a fuel soaked player after 1 second and a normal player after 4.

it just hit me that the viper is in fact, *not* a ballistic weapon, and asking for a laser weapon in a mod titled "ballistic weapons" just makes no sense. i think we should have stuck with good old fashioned ballistics like the m50. in my mind, the most you could stretch the 'ballistic' aspect of it is the railgun, anything more energy-like just isn't a ballistic weapon, i like the new weapons patch but its not really true to its nature, i mean, look at the staves! thats like not even laser, its magic!

*sigh* anyway, if there is gonna be another patch i think you guys should try to not include any energy weapons, because then this mod wont be ballistic weapons anymore, it will just be 'new weapons'.

The A73 was among the first weapons introduced with the mod. It is not what you consider a "Ballistic" weapon, but there it is.

i think that was mostly put there in order to have something replace the linkgun alt-fire, to heal power nodes and vehicles, because it would just be silly if they said some kind of bullet could heal a powernode or a vehicle.

Regardless, new energy weapons continued to be developed. The A42, Lightning gun, this ViPeR thing, and those staves. And what about the flamethrower? Would you consider that to be a "ballistic" weapon?

Besides, Ballistics is simply the science and mechanics of projectiles. A flying plasma ball may not be a solid bullet, but it's a projectile nonetheless.

Ballistic Weapons, like Kien said, is only a name. Lets take a look at Unreal Tournament shall we? Most of the time, there is no tournament whatsoever in the game, just a string of unrelated battles. Now throw in the physics engine they put in UT2004, with ragdoll bodies in an attempt to simulate lifelike deaths (that is the intent, at least).

Very contradicting to the name, if you ask me.

A name does not rule what the game will be like. In fact the very name Ballistic Weapons will likely be dropped sometime in the future (can't say for certain though).

And what about those melee weapons, eh? Not much ballistics involved in them.

If you don't want unconventional fire arms, simply disable them. The point of BW is not to supply purely conventional weapons. There is a hell of a lot more to the Universe BW is part of that many of you probably know about (unless you read up on the wiki and paid attention to some posts), and a world of just conventional fire arms is not part of this universe.

Yeah, it's just named so for the storyline, right? Wasn't it that humans were using all energy weapons, and had to revert to ballistic weapons to defeat skrith energy shields? That's all the justification needed, let us have any kind of weapon RS can throw at us!

Thats right, and even besides that I think the skrith are too fat to put the shields on them again since the humans have been abusing shell weapons so much that now they can use some energy based weapons once again. And btw, the plasma rifle is so insanely multipurpose. Damn I love it so much. Damn it. : 3

Btw, am I supposed to fire the HAMR in a high angle or something like that? Since all this time ive been using it like some crazy rpg cannon by shooting straight at anyone gets in the way. It IS very satisfying though.


Also Ive been hearing that UT3's modding system is messed up and is much confusing than before. I myself havent acquired an ut3 yet due to my low-end pc but I presume you guys are going to continue making this mod in ut3 or maybe even a stand-alone game. Which path will RS now take?

UT3 is only partial f***ed-up, for some totally random reason by Epic. But Epic has said that these SMALL problems will be addressed.

Its a kickass system, great stuff coming out. Would be amazing to see BW on UT3.

Just swung by to check out what was going on. My computer was down for a month and a half when I moved but wow, BP4 is pretty damn awesome. Then again, who expects anything else from you guys?

Hey again! I found out about this pack yesterday, a day after uninstalling UT2004 to save space. Well, bang went that idea, as I reinstalled it. (Space can be found in other places, most likely)

Anyway. Thoughts:

The new weapons are very, very nice. The Deermaster isn't too earth-shaking (the lovely Ranger provides all my single-shot needs), and the revolver's alright, if already taken by the D49. (Although I did notice, when duel-wielding the weapons together, that the Wilson is much much quicker to reload than the sluggish D49. So that's nice.)
The others, though:

The Peacemaker multiple-rocket launcher is pretty much why I downloaded the pack and reinstalled UT; tons of rockets flying everywhere? Lovely! The weapon didn't turn out to be as powerful as I expected, but it's still great; the chaos of it is fantastic.
The HAMR, though: My my my. Now THAT's a weapon. I'm getting a very strong Bioshock vibe from the HAMR, as well as a faintly vintage, steampunk feel. The sounds are great, it's very powerful, and it's a portable artillery cannon. What else could you want? (In fact, I now realise that using it handheld reminds me very much of the Flak Troopers from Red Alert 2.)

The staffs (staves?) are very nice. The evil staff is nicer, obviously. It's got a chainsaw, for heaven's sake! Woo! One thing I might comment on, though, is that it takes a long time to accumulate souls for the darn things. A weapon best suited for Invasion, I guess?)

Overall, a very nice pack. Good work, people!

HANDY HINT: For Deathmatch or Team Deathmatch, create a custom Arena setting, with only HAMRs. Call it "Steampunk Instagib". Also works well with the TIC RAILGUN, if you're into more instant instagib.

That remains to be seen, since Epic has promised the PS3 users mods, and mods can only be made on the PC, it would seem that Epic cannot do much with the PC version without breaking their promises to their PS3 customers (and that's where the real money is, so i doubt they would want that), if the two versions ever become too different from eachother, how could they possibly share mod support? thus it would seem that UT3 is doomed to stay limited by what is possible on a Console.

With that in mind, it seems very unlikely that UT3 will ever sport the kind of mod support we all thought it would, and mods will remain rather unimpressive, as the radical changes to base code that is needed to make PC modding what it should be would leave Consoles in the dust.


Our only hope then is that Epic decides the two version will finally be absolutely sepperate, and releases a stand alone editor for the PS3, and lets the PC version grow to its full potential with add on base code, but somehow i don't see that happening..

Seriously though, kids; after trying out the Piecemaker alone for a bit (well, alongside the RPG and Pineapple in an Arena loadout I like to call "Super Fighting Explosions"), I must say it's much more powerful than I previously thought.
As soon as I realised that you had to reload twice (how did they do that?), it got a lot more fun. Firing approximately five billion rockets into your opponent's face is always entertaining.

It works lovely in CTF maps where you got the flag - Wait for the enemy team to swarm at your location and then erase them all at once. I also use it sometimes in Invasion, but I like the Deermaster and the HAMR more.

I just had fun: the CTF map Decane Caldera, with only HAMRs? Explosions-based awesome.

Setting up a HAMR turret outside the blue base, and hammering any bots that come out. The HAMR truly is bestest. Est.

Are any of the comments and suggestions put into consideration? Are there plans to make some patch to tweak things?

Great update RS, some really nice weapons, and not a bad shot at making a tank, though IMO the shots should go much further before arcing down, otherwise a Goliath could snipe it from long range. However, I like the track deformation and the driving experience, so well done on that.

As for weapons, all of them well made. I'm not too keen on the Deermaster, but it still works well. I've yet to try the Nova Staff's superpower, but a screenshot or two have shown me what it may be. And the HAMR, pure <3 in a can.


I also have a question; what are the properties of the black holes, other than eating everything not nailed and glued down? Do they appear when two opposing souls hit each other? Are they random evil souls that decay and cause black holes?

The black holes are caused by a Nova Staff's lightning and Dark Star's plasma modes colliding.

Ah, thanks. I often see a horned skull floating in the middle of the black hole and sometimes a blue one too. I guess they just got sucked in when the powers collide. Thanks Kaboodies.
