so i was sleeping the other day (i dont know why), and i saw this big dude in my dream firing a shotgun which had 3 barrels, but the barrels spun as he shot the thing, so it was like a normal shotgun, but much more accurate. anyway, when i woke up, i was all like "YOOO, THIS IDEA IS AWESOME". so here it is

its a shotgun with 3 barrels (note to alll those 'OMGZ IT HOGZ BULLETZZZ' people, hold your horses, and read on) that are arranged in like a circle (like the rocket launcher from the normal weapons) but the only difference is that before shooting a round, it starts to spin REALLY fast (all those 'OMGZITHOGZBULLETZZZ' people, here is your solution, it has a very slow fire rate and long reload time) and because it has to spin, there is a delay between when you tell it to shoot and when it actually does (if you NEED it to fire fast, use the alt fire which shoots from just one barrel without a spin, so its like a normal shotgun). im thinking the delay should be around .3 to .75 seconds.

what are the advantages over other shotguns you ask?
MUCH more accurate, in fact it could be used as a sniper rifle since it is accurate but it also has a slight spread. and because the bullets are so tight together, it effectively increases range. the delay in the shot shouldn't be a problem because i think the spread should make up for it.

it would do well against some vehicles by clogging up their engine or damaging their mechanisms, mainly the manta (those two fans on the sides cant be too durable) and the scorpion (the driver is exposed so its easier to hit him.)


finally, how much damage does it do? i was thinking a point blank shot using its full power should do around 300 damage. mind you, each barrel probably fires 10 separate particles, so each barrel really does 100 damage and each particle does 10, which is normal.

ammo:

it would use only 1 ammo for each shot (even if it is the secondary no-delay shot, just because it isn't fired from all 3 barrels doesn't mean its smaller :D)

how could this work you say? simple!
the bullets are made from slightly magnetized particles that are held together only by the magnetic force.
there is a reason why it has a delay: as the barrel is spinning, it acts as a centrifuge and separates each bullet into several parts which are then fed into the barrels. the spin on the barrel also acts as a way to make the bullets fire in tighter formation and become more accurate.


you can also attach a bayonet to it with the special button. the bayonet is a series of long spikes that pop out from in front of the barrel (im thinking they should be around 10 inches). while these bayonets are out, pressing the secondary fire button will make the barrel start spinning (sort of like how the dark star works with its saw, only cooler cuz its spikes and they are bigger). you cant do the no delay shot while you have the bayonet out, but if shit gets dire, you can always cut something up! hehe.

here is a drawing, its crappy right now, ill make a better one later. admiringly it looks a lil bit more like a machine gun than a shotgun, but you can thank my non existent drawing skills for it. :/

Few things:
1) A rapidly spinning barrel circle is unnecessary. The gun could "switch" between barrels after each shot. This isn't a machinegun after all.
2) Alt. fire would be much more fun if it shot out of all 3 barrels at the same time, but would generate insane kickback and take a while to reload.

I would rather have the other shotguns damage nerfed and their accuracy increased and this one changes the accuracy for it's burst fire ability. A really nice thing IMO to have as special would be having 2 ammo types which you switch (or you might have to lead it with those shells) with the sec fire. In this case I'm thinking about the dragon's breath shells which are loaded with white phosphorus making the gun shoot at short ranged flame instead of bullets. :3 Makes the shotgun a funny combo. Burst fire shotgun, and short ranged burst fired flamethrower.

Mega attack and balanced with slow reload time is often not good. Since with such powerful attack the relead might not matter much when facing 1 oponent at a time. I don't know how to explain this, but these kind of things works good for many battles summed, but not good in the individual battles. Same with all abilites that has low chance to trigger. It sounds good becouse it's balance by the small chance, and looking at statistics of how many games it happens in it looks fiel but it happens to seldom in the individual game to be really fun. :/

Instead of a constantly spinning tri-barrel, the gun could spin in intervals. So you fire with one barrel, and the gun will switch to the next barrel while reloading the previous one, then that process repeats itself. If you have played Prey, you will have an idea of what I mean.

no no no, the whole point of the spinning barrel is to send them all flying in a spiral motion, sort of how a rifle works by making the bullet spin inside the barrel, but since you can't do that in a normal shotgun, we can spin around the barrels which would do sort of the same thing.

if we took out the spin it would just be a normal shotgun but with 3 barrels.

now that i think about it i kinda like you idea, but its not what i had in mind. anyway.


i dunno, this is just an idea, you guys can twist it around if you want, after all, a whole lotta heads (and barrels! ) are better than one

Rotating barrles where the whole thing doesn't serve much purpose is not interresting. There must be either high fire rate, multi-load-launch or burst mechanizm to it. Or something else you can come up with. Otherwise you just get dissapointed when using the weapon becouse it looks like it's gonna have some cool effect but it doesn't. The SS2 shotugn is awful (like the rest of the game, first 2 were very good though).

What are you talking about? Rifling inside a barrel spins the bullet to give it more momentum and stability. Spinning barrels would do no such thing for a shotgun's pellets.


Besides, all you need for tighter spread would be a more constrictive choke on the barrel.

As for damage, the M763 does a total of 300 (12 traces, 25 avg damage) on a torso shot at point blank (which is really too high, IMO). The M290 and MRT6 equals or doubles that, depending on firemode, while the MRS138 does about the same (10x30).

But seriously it is a good idea, the only thing that I would change is No. of barrels, (unless you A. want it to be like "Logan's Run" or B. want it to look alien or something) 4 or 6 should do
