Bipods do nothing to mitigate recoil unless you're bolting the thing down. All it would do is provide a more steady firing platform, which is completely unnecessary in this game as it does not feature any breathing or hand shakiness.

Also, the Barrett M107's recoil is reportedly quite manageable due to its large muzzle brakes, shock-absorbing springs, and heavy weight.

Lose the bipod.

The bipod is currently being used as a gameplay element which presents the user with an alternative to the chaos and recoil of the weapon when shoulder fired.

The X82 has heavy chaos and a fair amount of recoil which are both eliminated when the gun is mounted. Balanced by a slight reduction to rate of fire, mounting the gun is very useful for aiming up shots and concentrating fire on a mobile or armored target.


I am less concerned about the realistic implications of a bipod reducing fire rate and recoil than I am about making the gun more enjoyable and useful.

The bipod is intended to be released and will only be removed if the models and animations are not completed. If the mounted model is not completed by christmas, it will not be included unless the community wishes otherwise.

How much damage is this thing going to do, compared to the R78 and the Railgun? To both hard and soft targets?

The R78 is already capable of 1-shotting infantry in the chest, and the Railgun can do about the same thing to vehicles, both with rather manageable recoil and chaos. I don't want to see such a cool gun gimped right off the bat.

EDIT: Another option - release a Railgun that requires mounting!

I dunno why discuss that the railgun is a lot better than that weapon. It OBVIOUSLY is. it shots something faster than sound or something like that. it obviously is more powerful than a Sniper, maybe even a .50. it also doesn't require mounting for a perfect shot, can shoot through 7 walls and in the chest it will kill or nearly kill the victim.
how to balance this?
just put the railgun in the place of the redeemer(which normally is in a place that is hard to reach), or make a Evolution loadout game where you only get it after being a excellent sniper.
or don't put it in the game.
I think that the Barrett could be something between the R78A1 and the Railgun.

Hmm. How about keeping chaos and recoi somewhat manageable while unmounted (between the R78 and M75), while decreasing both further the bipod? With the lower recoil, you would be able to fire faster than before (assuming this is semi-auto and not bolt-action).

This might actually work pretty well with my tweaked Railgun.

For damage to both infantry and vehicles, the ratings are like this:

Most Powerful < SM-AT/AA =----= M75 TIC =----= X-82 A2 =----= R78A1 > Least Powerful.
Each of these guns has its own defining characteristics and their roles change significantly because of it. The X82 excels at eliminating light vehicles and hunting down opposing snipers. (No tracers ftw.)

Compared to the current snipers, the semi-automatic X82 has a far superior rate of fire and a player with a skilled hand can negate the effects of the recoil with careful movements. While it requires more skill to use, it is more efficient than the current two.

It can also be used as a shotgun if you're desperate!


The railgun would look silly with a mount.

"I have this huge, probably-volatile backpack on, and they STILL want me to go prone and mount this thing!? Those guys at R&D sure are insane..."

No sillier than the minigun. Besides, you could always put the backpack down

I mean look at that thing. It looks really heavy, and would probably be easier to aim if you were to set it down against something.


One thing I don't particularly like about the smaller mounted weapons is that they look pretty silly on the bipod with the guy crouched behind it. I know that creating a prone animation for all the player models would probably be too much effort, but it still looks pretty silly.

Uh... the night vision kinda needs tweaking. I could barely make out the surroundings (unless that REALLY is Torlan in pitch black darkness [though I've never seen a nighttime Torlan for the life of me {I prolly should download it somewhere, shouldn't I...?}]).

The NV helps a lot in finding the little infantry running around.

That's one hell of a gun. Unbelievably beautiful.

The X-82 A2 utilizes the .50 caliber N6-BMG HEAP shells which create a miniature explosion on impact.

A single shot from this will tear off an arm or sever a head. Its specially designed armor piercing rounds can critically damage mantas and scorpions in just one shot! The 4 shot magazine means you better not miss.

Wait! Stop! Hold the presses! Before you launch this baby, please fix the scope color/design on the gun model itself. It looks green w/ a white-ish reticule on the outside, but when you view it in iron-sights, it turns into a red night-vision w/ a black reticule.

Actually it's a pretty glaring error. However, I'd suggest changing the scope's texture colors if you were to do that. Much easier to do.

No it isn't. If you look at all of RS's scoped weapons, you'll see that the weapon's scope texture matches the scope's actual design in iron sights mode.

It's even the same for Unreal's very own lightning gun. It takes a special kind of attention to detail to do that.

Nah, man. Change the scope view texture. The one on the gun model is a lot cooler-looking.

Turret models have been completed and are now being tweaked to look good ingame.

These things are hard to set up.
