Sorta like burning all the oxygen in a large area very quickly to suffocate the flame with even more heat? I think they do things like that too. Well, at least when putting out fires in oil wells.

Actually, the reason for removing oxygen is to put an end to the chain reacted combustion. If the heat doesn't cause combustion due to lack of oxygen, the fire won't be "fed" with more heat energy and will quickly die.

No, I have no idea how this would be done. I just know that it CAN be done. Somehow. Essentially this would be a base for ultimate technology, since it would eliminate reliance on fuel sources of ANY kind. There would be no more wars, and whoever discovered the secret to this technology would essentially become an uber-power in the world. Let's just hope it's Britain, the US, or Canada, maybe Australia or India. Other countries might use it for... Nasty ends. Waging religious wars, world domination, etc. Although the US might try it too.

Chemical reactions imply some kind of fuel has to be expended and discarded or reprocessed. Fusion still requires a fuel source (Hydrogen), although it's fairly abundant.

Even "renewable" energy sources like wind and solar energy will run out when the Sun goes out, although that's not something we have to worry about for a long while. Nothing is infinite.

Also, everything will require maintenance eventually, though I suppose you could have the generator divert some energy into self-maintenance robots or something.
