I like to think of space as an infinite emptiness, so I would say it's more than just a mathematical concept.

Loving someone can mean 2+ kinds of love, being in love with someone means "real" love only.

If the (materialized) universe is infinitely big, then how can it have limited age? To reach point of infinity you need infinite amount of time to do so.

I personally think the theory of the universe age is irrelevant, but actually even if unfortunately I have no solid proof, I think the universe never began to exist and will never end
