A railgun sword is pretty much a chainsaw except it doesn't have a chain blade, but it uses a "railgun beam" around the blade to cut things. The "beam" is magnetically stabilized to fit the blade.

A Railgun is a weapon that uses two rails with coils that generates a magnetic field in a way to propel a projectile in the intended direction.
And BTW if you can throw a projectile with magnetic fields you can also deflect it.

I'm not sure you understood what I was saying here ... and BTW having a man portable railgun is impossible, mostly if the projectile is thrown at light speed because the generated recoil will be enormous. if we stand with sole realism BW won't be as fun as it is and this extends with most games we play out there.

Also railguns don't shoot projectiles at light speed because that would be impossible. (just really really fast)
I also doubt the impossibility of a man portable railgun system because a scaled down version would be more manageable with a tripod mount or if the operator was given a suit of Exoskeleton armour.

Its dumb because your not explaining what is it. Is it a sword that houses a small railgun? cause thats the only thing i can think of, in which cause, its just a glorified bayonet.

You obviously know nothing significant about how railguns work, or at least sci-fi ones. Yes, they fire projectiles at high speeds (NOT light speed, no where near lightspeed), but the key point is, they fire SMALL projectiles so that the recoil isn't too high. They fire small projectiles at high speeds for maximum penertation of armoured targets. And i'm pretty sure by the time these things come out, we would have newer systems to deal with the recoil, or failing that, just make the gun heavier. Recoil would not be a major issue, the main one right now, is energy storage. we cannot store the amount of energy needed to fire one of these things in small batterys.

Now your railsword, you explained it like it was supposed to be a replacement for a chainsaw, in which cause, how on earth are you planning to utilise magnets to create something similar to a high speed moving chain with teeth on? it doesn't make sense. THATS why your idea is pretty dumb right now. Flesh it out more, and explain it properly, your picture doesn't help your case either, it looks like a glowing sword. Nothing like a railgun, or a gun, or a rail.

It doesn't use magnets, it use rails inside the blade and they follows the edges of the blade. The rails generates a magnetic field to keep the projectile around the blade's edges and at the same time makes the projectile moving around.

And I know how work real Railguns but I'm just sticking with a sci fi definition of it when talking about my rail sword. and even that Sci fi railguns are different from game to game. and from sci fi universe to sci fi universe, just like lasers and plasmas ...
So please don't tell me I don't know how works railguns; I know approximatively how they work the different names given to it and variants since I'm a HUGE fan of this weapon

Alright, enough of this rail sword discussion after my input..

It reminds me of a Gauss Chainsaw concept I had, were the chain is propelled through electro magnets much like how a Gauss rifle works. Only different of course is that instead of one projectile being moved, its a series of linked chains that move along a track. Not really sure how it work though, I think in reality the chain would just stick to the magnets, unless every other link wasn't magnetic. Which would be weird.

Why not, I just called it Railgun Sword because of its working principle ie: it use rails like railguns, but you guessed right about the particles, I don't know if that's because I talked about the beam effect. That's pretty much what you said.
And it has a true railgun inside (the weapon transforms) but yeah particle accelerator sword fits the weapon as well.

Using a liner motor system to drive the teeth. though the chain and the magnets need to be pretty strong.
Remember, Railguns uses electromagnetically charged rails to launch a metal projectile to destroy targets with its kinetic energy.
