Anyway, i haven't played Minecraft, so really no idea how addictive it can be or not. The most casual game i play is probably something like The Witcher, or one of various other RPG's

Only co-op MP, nevermind Bulletstorm.

Minecraft is fairly addicting- it's incredibly simple, but something about it just makes you want to keep on playing. It's as if it was just waiting for someone to come along and discover the right formula- and make himself a millionaire with a ridiculously popular yet simple game.

I can understand it dude there is some games who can maintain you because of the principle of the discovery.
As for goals, the goal in itself is to survive day after day and create stuff.
sure for some people this kind of sand box game isn't interesting, but some games pretty much entertained me with that principle mostly those browser MMO space strategy games I played with some friends. And there was even girls playing it as strange as it sounds.

what got me interested in the game was when i saw it on the escapist's zero punctuation reviews that guy is DAMN funny and he gave it a quite good review so i thought i might try it out and its really really goof i might buy the full version if it carries on to be funny ive built a tower above the clouds and want to make a imperial cannon in the full version if i get it

EDIT: i just saw the above post and might join in with the convo a bit when i was 6 i use to use the arrow keys for moving my player but now i use wasd because i thought it was easier but it was hard to get use to like when i learned how to type with both my hands

I was the same as grizzly, when i was a lot younger i used to find WASD uncomfortable and i couldn't remember the keys XD
But at about 11ish i just swapped to WASD, can't remember why, must have grown or something,

And i agree with blade storm about what he said too, creating stuff to survive is fun, then making that stuff more impressive is just as fun. i got seriously addicted for about a week, then i stopped myself i haven't really been on it since.

Been playing LOADS of cortex command though, did anyone know that someone (numgun i think) made ballastic weapons for CC? Its awesome! srs900's recoil tends to push my feline soldiers around though, they just ain't beefy enough.

I think most of us used the arrows, until the day that you found WASD (ZQSD for me since French people uses AZERTY keyboards insteed of QUERTY) but I found these keys more comfortable since I could have all my fingers on other major keys for doing various things and the number keys to swap some weapons more quickly

used the arrow keys when I was a kid, still use them now. I just find wasd to be uncomfortable to me.

ESDF kicks ass man! WASD can go to hell

I remember playing Q2 with just a keyboard for a while, then i discovered the mouse. Then a while later i got used to WASD (pretty easily), and for the last 5 years or so, it's been ESDF (which DC got me into) As a side note, i hate "C" as crouch. I use "Z" now.

I use shift but it conflicts sometimes if I use alt for some functions

I started playing UT2k4 with arrow keys. Then one day I just forced myself over to WASD and never looked back. It might have been BF2 that did it, or even BW (needing more buttons than available).

As for my playing habits: I've been doing a lot of World of Tanks recently (since the slow internet I'm on won't let me play FH2 or TF2 when housemates clog it up with HD video streams ). I suppose I could recommend it if you like 30's and 40's tanks and don't mind the inevitability of failure when the matchmaker puts your little paper tank up against the heavies (conversely - hellfire will spew from your gun when you end up at the top of the pile ).

I have considered switching to ESDF, it is practically the same thing but has a lot more free buttons around it.

C is still my crouch, a habit started well over a decade ago. To me Left ctrl or < seem better buttons for the purpose than either Z or C. In Dead Space 2 I use Left ctrl for activating the rocket boosters in zero-g though, and Left shift for running.

ESDF does kick ass! I use Z for crouch, G for use, SPACE for jump and that leaves lots of keys nearby for whatever the particular game needs. It also makes it a bit easier to reach all those number keys.
RDFG is another idea and puts even more keys in easy reach, but I don't use it because it is even more trouble to rebind in games, especially if you are in a hurry.
I only discovered ESDF, because before I was using the arrow keys and when Cyberax told me about WASD, he typed it wrong. How lucky!

Works just fine for me.

I know some people who use the num pad, others uses OKLM or IJKL.
I found that comfortable to use the "classic" WASD in Deus Ex or SOF since DX and SOF have leaning and other functions that needs to be mapped around the keys in question, so I could use my thumb to lean and Alt to change ammo C to use le laser and F for the scope.
Personally everyone have a different view of the comfort.

I could see why people would use ESDF but i like my WASD, crtl for crouch, space for jump, Q for quick weapon swap, E medic shouting. (i mainly play tf2)

As for the others, like IJKL, that just seems to extraordinairy, i don't know anyone who uses that, or numpad too - how does that work with the mouse? unless your left handed or something, meh, i'll stick to WASD!

Hmm, I still use WASD, although I have played with ESDF quite a bit, they seem about the same, although ESDF would have more buttons, I have no trouble finding keys..

Right mouse for jump, middle for secondary/etc, and space for crouch, wouldn't have it any other way..

WASD has one cool advantage; when spoken out loud you kind of hear 'vast', which is a word of confidence and for many people a description of its superiority.
