Okay, so I think it's a bug, but I'll beg for it not to be fixed if I have to.

With the Cylo supercharger, the mode where it fires lightning bolts and then static-discharges if held on the ground in one spot long enough... when you do it to a bot, they explode in a green ball of plasma or something. But it doesn't give you the kill, it counts as a suicide for them and the death message is "(victim) OBLITERATED himself". Better than that, you can kill bots totally regardless of team damage settings.

Now, this is useful this way, as bots routinely seem to get stuck on architecture or in "logic loops" where they run between the same couple items over and over, or translocate to a spot, run away, then turn around and translocate again. If team damage is off, I can't do anything about this, but with this little gem, I can kill them and force them to respawn, breaking these loops.

Or in a gametype called Defend the Leader, you can't kill your team's leader whether team damage is on or off. But I don't want the bots to be the leader, cause they suck, and I don't. So I dig around in my hyperspace inventory for the Cylo and "fix" that little problem, then become the leader (through sheer force and tyranny.)

In other words, it's incredibly useful this way, so please do not change it.

But what about online? Someone is bound to try and be an asshole with that and goes around exploding his teammates just for LULZ

If I'm gonna be honest, I don't think online is going to be that widespread of a problem. The game is old, the mod is huge, people just generally can't be bothered these days.

Haha, nice call! This is because when I coded up that initial prototype I just threw in the BFG suicide projectile. (Which is pretty much a gigantic green explosion!) The suicide, due to the way it is coded, blows up teammates and foes alike. (That is something that me and a couple others figured out while playing Invasion, quite unfortunately.)

That explosion has long since been replaced with a much smaller electrical explosion, which should not have the teamkilling capabilities.

If the bots are being pesky, just do what I do and type "summon bwbprecolors3.smatrocket" in the console. Rocket assisted suicide is arguably the best form of suicide.

Has the download link been updated for that?

This kind of attitude around here is what killed BW online in the first place, as you can probably tell from the makeup of the forum community and the general incidence of forum players on BW servers. Increased connection speeds make the size of a mod moot for most people. Ignoring online, a weapon which takes kills from others via suicide is pointless at best and abusive at worst.

Ignoring online, the existence of such a weapon doesn't particularly mean anything. What, are the bots' feelings going to be hurt? Is ClanLord going to say "omg hax" and ragequit? (That WOULD be pretty damn funny, actually...)

But if I can do the same thing with the rockets, then no big deal. Having a way to unscrew some of these stuck bots is nice, and really, it doesn't matter how it's done. In fact, this may be more fun since the suicide death messages are funnier AND I get to explode them into gooey paste.

Oh, you just wanted something to fix stuck bots? I see. In that case, either use the Unreal4ever Industrial Anti-Gravity Mover or summon projectiles with AdminPlus or ClanManager like Kelly said.

The first page doesn't list any SMGs That's sad, we only have like two or three.

XMk5, XK2, Fifty-9, XRS-10.

MR-DR88 is a machine-pistol, which is very much like a Submachine Gun...

Plus the A49 is a Skrith SMG.

Okay, I found some issues with online play I thought I should talk about.

The Bulldog: It loads differently offline than online. Offline, pressing altfire cocks the gun to load a grenade. Online, you can just fire a grenade immediately. Also, there's no "pump reload" animation, just a wait time.

I noticed it with the HMC-117, but it could be with everything: Is there no variation between weapons for the client online? I picked up about 80 HMC photon cannons, and not once did I get the overcharged one. They're not THAT rare.

The HVPCMK66: (green BFG) it overcharges, but nothing happens to me. It doesn't explode, it doesn't kill me, the gun doesn't even disappear from my inventory. It works fine for the host, but for the client, it's got no drawbacks.

The CYLOE supercharger: The client doesn't see the electric discharges when you hold it in one spot. It does damage, but no visuals.

Chain sword: Happens offline too, but if you overcharge it, you can't use it anymore, even after it cools down. You have to toss it and get a new one. In my case, as the client it didn't work for me after half-charge.

M350: When you hold altfire until the gun overcharges, it's supposed to propel you waaaaaaaay backwards. Works for host, not for client. I just stand there like the Rock of Gibraltar. Also, online altfire doesn't leave bullet decals or sounds. I didn't think it was working until I shot the other player in the server with it.

Alternate camos are disabled for multiplayer. They cause way too much problems in net play for it to be viable for implementation this release.

And the rest seem to be further net play problems... Hopefully Sgt. Kelly can resolve them though.

Right, I thought that might be the case after I picked up a ton of HMC117's and didn't get the red one. I still wish I could get these as separate things, so I can pick between them.

edit: How much damage does discharging the GRSXX laser using the special key do? From what I notice, holding the laser on something with secondary until it's drained does 800 damage, enough to kill a Goliath from full to empty assuming you don't waste any of the charge at all.

If the network replication issues aren't solved in V9 I'll sort them out personally. Anything that works offline can work online as long as the client is supplied with the correct info.

By the way, what does the "SUICIDE ALT FIRE"-Mode of the Cylo MKII do?
Also: Why is a useless firemode written with capslock?

I still can't make sense of replication. It makes my head hurt.

Replication: method of transmitting required data between the server and the client manually in order to maintain network synchronisation. Affects functions and variables. Any function replicated to another machine is called ONLY on the new machine and not on both machines. Functions and variables to replicate are defined in a replication block.

The server is the authority on the game, and the clients depend upon it for input. Replication keeps everything in sync, basically, and it's not as hard as it looks. In default classes, most of it is managed naturally. However, the nature of replication is such that programmers are best off writing their code based around online functionality, rather than trying to convert code written for offline use for online. This is why the Bulldog code ♥♥♥♥♥ up a lot online - because the information the clients require isn't being sent and things are going out of sync.

Two little nitpicks:

"unreliable if" does not affect variables, and should only be used for functions which, if not executed clientside, would not dramatically affect gameplay. It means that if a function call is sent, and that function call is lost for whatever reason over the network, the server will not attempt that function call again - as opposed to reliable if where the server will repeatedly send the function call to the client or vice versa until it is acknowledged by the destination. Variables are ALWAYS re-sent and ignore reliability conditions.

"simulated" means a function can be run clientside. Don't add it to a function if that function doesn't need to be run clientside, cannot be run clientside or you don't actually know what simulated is for.

I've got the basics of it, but some things I just can't figure out, like why BW's projectile weapons act so weird online. And why weapon trails don't go away if you fire a weapon point blank at a wall.

Yeah, I remember having to reverse engineerthe bfg proj to not glide on walls. Fun times.

If I recall correctly, the gliding thing didn't have anything to do with netcode, and everything to do with BW's projectile firing code. What I'm talking about is stuff like the E23's sniper projectile flying off-center, but still damaging the intended target in the center of the crosshair. And the A73/A48 creating grid patterns in the wall.

The projectile (or weaponfire, perhaps) on the client is not getting correct info from the server somehow.

But I meant SMGs, not Machine-Pistols.

I know, same relation. But for me, SMGs are those that need both hands used to fire, like the Xk2 and the new 2.5 one. We only got like two of them. And all we get is more machine pistols, no two-handed SMGs.

It's sad.
