Star wars is SO much better than star trek because fantasy is more fun. ^^
I can't wait to see where this thread goes.

My personal opinion is that both StarWars and StarTrek suck. But I do prefer scifi over fantasy.

Edit: About the whole thing with Star Wars blasters not being lasers, I'm aware of it, I'm talking about the laser cannons they use, not the blasters.

I prefer star wars....i have given star trek a chance....it just is'nt as good......but maybe because i grew up watching star wars........

I grew up watching both Star Trek and Star Wars. I had the first six ST movies and the old SW movies memorized from start to finish by the time I was 8 years old, and I still love both of them, so don't think that I'm somehow biased against one or the other.

Now to the refutation of arguments:

@Macintosh: So far all you've said is "Fantasy is more fun". We're arguing Star Trek Vs. Star Wars. The only thing they have in common is Sci-Fi. If we're just going to argue whether Sci-Fi is better than Fantasy or not, I'm not interested. That's like comparing apples and oranges.

If, however, you are actually interested in comparing Star Trek and Star Wars, you've got to come up with something that makes more sense than "Fantasy is more fun". I'm not saying that the whole fantasy part of Star Wars should be ignored, just that there should be more to your argument.

@Abaddon: Don't make useless comments.

@Bjossi: Thanks, please do. I'll try not to let that happen, of course. And I apologize for snapping at you about the lasers. Just bugs me when people assume that Phasers are Lasers. But still, no excuse for being rude.

I don't see a problem with making useless comments, especially in a thread that has a discussion as unstable as a radioactive molecule.

Reason Star Wars for me is way better than ST is that for one it has the FORCE! Nothing can bet the force... except those damn animal things that the Yuuzhan Vong use against the Jedi in the New Jedi Order books. Also it way cooler effects (talking about the SW 4,5,6 when compared to the first of ST, don't even know how the ST thing works out?)

Actually, UglyPants, Star Trek has a certain entity named Q, who, for all practical purposes is completely omniopotent. Let's see a Jedi try to fight someone with all the powers of God.

So the reason SW is better than ST in your opinion, is story-related? I didn't expect that reasoning.

I hate to be off topic, but I wanted to mention that imo, nothing will beat how kickass the Borg are. I'm ready to bet a lot of money that Quake 2 and Quake 4's storyline was inspired from the Borg.

Yes star wars has so much story to it its amazing, so many plants, the galaxy filled with thousands of different species of aliens. And totally awesome technolgy.

As far as I know, StarTrek has a pretty damn rich story too, you can see that from the 10 movies and A LOT of TV episodes. And as Carsomyr pointed out in another thread, the 11th movie is in the making.

And again, nothing in StarWars nor any other scifi mumbo jumbo will ever beat how awesome idea the Borg are.

Also, Star Trek does alot better job of telling stories with a real message in them than Star Wars does.

@Bjossi: Sorry for bossing Abaddon around, but he IS my little kid brother. And I'm with you on the borg. Let's see the empire's pathetic stormtroopers beat that.

@Ugly: Like Abaddon said, Q beats the pants off the force. And you can't use better specail effects as an argument that something is better. And besides, The first sic Star Trek movies DID have effects as food, and better in some ways, then the original Star Wars movies. But don't take my word for it, go watch them yourself.

Also, don't ask how Q could be godlike. He just is. That's like asking how yoda is short. Or green. Also, Bond's Q retired. And his actor died.

@Echo: Fine by me. I don't agree with your opinion, but I'd die defending your right to express it. But I think you should give Star Trek a chance. Try Deep Space Nine, it's the most acessible of all the series.

One last thing. The Emperial army is beyond pathetic. They're supposed to be the most advanced and powerful army ever created, and what the Emperor refered to as "An entire legion of my best troops." got obliterated by a bunch of uppity teddy bears with sticks and rocks. Go figure.

If you are intentionally trying to create a flamewar, then I'm afraid you are in a lot of trouble if it actually starts.

That was cause they never expected resistence from them, also it helped taht the rebels were fighting with those ewoks too.

Also the Emperor was a bit crazy with power.

@Ugly: There was like a dozen rebels. Tops. And how the heck is suprise justufucation for elite troops getting slaughtered by midget tribal furballs? Stormtroopers are pathetic. They can't hit ANYTHING except by luck, or if it's something they can't damage with their blasters anyways.

StormTroopers aren't Elite in the slightest bit, only Vaders Fist or the 501 for you SW noobs were the Elite of the Empire. Once the Reoublic was crushed and turned into the mighty Empire the cloners on Kamino stop making clone soldeirs since they were for the Republic not the Empire. Because of this, most Republic (now Imperial) clones were sent on almost sucide missions for the Emperor, to capture rioting planets and other such things, soon they were all dead. Even Vader's Fist Legion soon was weakening, so the Empire started forcing men into the Imperial (yes its spelt with a I not E) army. So by the time the Battle of Endor came around the Imperial Army was filled with conscripts. And as anyone knows, conscipts suck, which all lead to the defeat of the Empire at Endor by a ton of fuzzy ewoks.

Then the emperor is even more moronic than I would have thought, to expend all of his irreplaceable professional soldiers on suicide missions. Idiotic. Beyond idiotic.

Maybe the empror is supposed to be a moron, which I doubt, so the more likely story is that Lucas, or whomever came up with that lunacy, is brainless. Or assumes that the people who read this stuff are brainless and so they won't notice. Either way. . .

And read can't forget all the books.

I don't think books count as Canon material. So most of what you said up there is speculative anyhow.

I like them both, after all they are both entertainment

I enjoy Star Wars, although I didn't like the idea of these espisodes business after the so many years, but I think they turned out alright.

BUT, I have to say, out of the two, StarTrek is my favourite

I think most message boards need something like this. It's fun and generally harmless, and neither side has much chance of convincing the other, so it tends to go on forever.

I've read a couple of the books... geeky I know, BUT the war doesn't end with the death of vader and the emperor, the imperials attempt to construct a larger death star AND the rebels accidentally come accross what look like some sort of ghost fleet, in truth it's a run down fleet that was done up on the inside and there for was hiding something. The rebels find cloning pods inside which is how the imperials had so many soldiers. They were all expendable, the empereor could make another few thousand in a month.
