Just preordered the main game, and got the Santa's Rampage on steam. Tried both, and I'm having serious performance issues. The game's running REALLY slow and choppy, and I can't seem to fix it using any of the options provided in the menu. I have: 3.50 ghz Quad-core i7 16 GB of RAM GeForce GTX680 I can run most modern retail games at full or nearly-full settings, but this game, and Santa's Rampage are really slow and choppy no matter what I do in the options. Any idea what I could do to fix this? |

Shit, hmm. Different results in window and fullscreen? What is the FPS according to 'stat fps' (open console with the ~ key and type 'stat fps')? And lastly, please post your log file here (*installation folder\UDKGame\Logs\Launch.log*) |

And lastly, please post your log file here (*installation folder\UDKGame\Logs\Launch.log*) Window and fullscreen run about the same... Runs maybe slightly better at lower resolutions, but I have to go down to like 1024x768 before I notice any improvement at all.. I usually play a 1680x1050 And of course I've tried the graphics options in Santa's Rampage, like dynamic shadows on and off, and restarting game.. those options appear to be mysteriously absent from the base game. FPS while moving and looking around hovers around 5 to 7... if I stand perfectly still it goes up to about 8 Log file here - http://pastebin.com/b0fxVgbS Also, if it helps, the framerate is poor from the time the menu comes up, till the time I quit. Main menu, in-game, and on menu screens in-game. . |

Wait.. it's fixed now. I'm not sure what I did.. I must have run it 20 times at a terrible framerate, but now it's working great. |

Aha, good to hear! If it persists, it's probably a known issue with the Unreal Development Kit and certain hardware.

I don't own Viscera Cleanup Detail proper, but I did buy Santa's Rampage. And I'm seeing SEVERE performance problems on of my PCs, but not another. The PC with issues has a very unusual one, as well. The game's framerate in general isn't bad, but it stutters roughly every second. When it stutters, the game freezes for a fraction of a second, causing sprite effects (like Santa's fireplace) to reset. At first I thought this was caused by movement, but then I took my hands off the controls and stared at a crate of dismembered elves burn in the fireplace. The game stuttered rhythmically, seemingly exactly to the tune of the gloves' idle animation. This PC with issues is running a GeForce 9800 GT (so yes, an old card) over an Intel Core Quad processor with 4 GB of RAM. I have the game running 1280x720 in windowed mode, and the "stutter" only shows up once the 3D portion of the game starts. It makes the game borderline unplayable, as while it CAN be played, the sudden jerk keeps causing me to knock over buckets and crates over and over again. My other PC is running a GeForce GTX580 with 8GB of Ram and an Intel I7 processor. That sees no graphical issues whatsoever, including no slowdown of any kind. |

sorry for double post but i believe if anyone can help me with how to do it that if i were able to turn off the fire animation it might run smooth. i dont even know if this is possible but i can tell that the reason for such degradation of performance is the fire acting wonky. if anyone could help me figure out how to go about this i could test it. I really really want to play AND enjoy this game adn shadow warrior which is suffering from the same thing unfortunately. |

Strange, very strange, maybe you could try changing some of the game's system settings. Find the "\UDKGame\Config\UDKSystemSettngs.ini" file in your game installation, open it in a simple text editor like notepad and try changing some settings from true to false. For example: Bloom=false DynamicLights=False DynamicShadows=False MotionBlur=False bAllowLightShafts=false LensFlares=False FogVolumes=False Try some of those, if that doesn't work, something much deeper must be going on, as it is those settings shouldn't slow your game down enough to get the speeds you're experiencing, but it's worth a shot. |

OK, I have no explanation for this, but the PC I quoted as suffering from "stuttering" issues no longer is. If I had to guess, though, it may be because I installed Viscera Cleanup Detail proper. When I made my previous comment, all I had installed was Santa's Rampage through Steam. Since I own the full game now, I thought I'd install that and see if it also had issues. It installed the UDK again, and then showed no stuttering at all. I then returned to Santa's Rampage and that showed no stuttering any more, either. I can only assume that reinstalling the UDK with the full game fixed whatever was causing the slowdown, and that perhaps it wasn't installed properly the first time. Additionally, when returning to Santa's Rampage, the fireplace was still acting up and occasionally drawing flames out of the fireplace itself for a few frames at a time. Santa's Rampage still runs considerably worse on my weaker PC than Evil Science from the full game, but I suspect that's down to the much higher quantity of props. |

Hmm, it could be that the game needs to reinstall Visual C Redistribute-ables, you can do this by finding the "\Binaries\Redist\UE3Redist.exe" file under your game folder. If running that doesn't help, also try installing Microsoft .NET 4.0: .NET 4.0 Installer |

I actually saw this suggestion in another thread somewhere and have had some minor success in making it better, a few of the options you listed i havent changed so ill try that first and then if that doesnt work ill install the main game and the .net and redist |
