| Post subject: | Multiplayer not working |
Hey there. My friend and I bought the game a couple of hours ago, and we can't get the multiplayer to work. We both forwarded ports, made sure the game is allowed through firewalls, and yet we simply get "Connecting..." which fades out and then nothing happens. It's quite annoying, since I actually paid for this game specifically to play it with a friend. Is there a way to change the game's port or something of the sort? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

I'm assuming this is not the Santa, or Shadow warrior version? If so, does the Friend Game list on the right-hand side of the Main Menu not work for you? Direct connect with ports open should still work however.

It does show up on the right side of the Main Menu that one of us is playing the game and says "Click to join." but after clicking, "Connecting..." shows up at the top of the main menu and simply fades out, then absolutely nothing happens. It's quite annoying, almost as if it's not even doing anything. We've tried direct connect, and got the same result. |

Have you had this with any other games on Steam? It seems certain networks don't support the system Steam and the UDK(VCD's Engine) uses.

For example, we bought Space Engineers recently, and were playing it with one of us hosting without any issues. It's quite weird. I think we've tried everything now. |

Had to ask. Have you tried direct connect after forwarding the game's port on the host's Router? The port is 7777. Could be it just refuses to like connecting through Steam. Not sure what other course of action we can take.

The game is a bit tedious in single player and seems like it would be more fun in multiplayer. |

This wasn't a "Restored" game he was hosting either, was it? A fix was recently uploaded to fix that, as "loaded" games didn't host properly. If it's not that, then perhaps Direct Connect will work better with Steam either closed, or offline. Try hosting a game with Steam closed, and then joining directly via IP address. You can find the game .exe under the game's "Binaries\Win32(64)\" folders. (UDK.exe) |

We switched his router for another one he had, port forwarded again, and got the same result. The game doesn't even tell us anything, it just fades out, and is annoying as hell. Is there really no way to change the port? EDIT: We just tried playing Terraria, which uses 7777, just like this game, and it worked without any issues. I'm 100% certain it's the game's fault now. While playing Terraria, the checkmyport websites confirmed 7777 was open, but when I host a game in Visceral, they say it's closed. I'm assuming there's a problem there. What can I do to fix it? |

Hmm, gah, uhm... Did you try it with Steam closed? Maybe some of the system things it is supposed to install and needs are not working properly, you could try manually running UE3Redist.exe under the game's "Binaries\Redist" folder. Also try manually downloading and installing Microsoft .NET 4.5 If none of that works, try this procedure for BOTH of you: -Close Steam -Find the "UDKEngine.ini" file under the game's "UDKGame\Config" folder. -Change this line: "NetworkDevice=OnlineSubsystemSteamworks.IpNetDriverSteamworks" -To this line: "NetworkDevice=IpDrv.TcpNetDriver" For the Host: -Make sure Port 7777 is forwarded(which you did). -Launch the game and host a match. For the Client: -Connect directly to target public IP-address using Join menu. I hope that helps! |

Great, keep in mind that if you want to be able to connect through Steam later, you'll have to put the "NetworkDevice=OnlineSubsystemSteamworks.IpNetDriverSteamworks" back. |

Well, none of my friends had it running the same time, though. But shouldn't it be there never the less (just saying that no one is there)? |

It is hidden until at least one of your Friends has hosted a VCD game. This is similar to how the list works in games like Left 4 Dead. |

okay, so i seem to be having the same issue, and would really like to figure out how to get things working for joining through steam, really do not want to do the workaround for disabling going through steam altogether. is there something i can do to see whats actually the problem? i cant join any multiplayer game at all. |

Are you trying to join a game hosted by your friend? Have they properly port-forwarded? Joining through Steam has been a nightmare to diagnose; it works for most people, but not others, we've never been able to figure out why. I'm sorry, I can't give you much help there. The best approach if it doesn't work is I'm afraid to get the host to port-forward, or failing that, bypass Steam altogether(which still needs port forwarding) and do a direct connect. Public games hosted by other people you don't know won't be so easy to test or change. |
