Hi all. Earlier this week I picked up VCD on Steam and loved the novelty of it. My hope was to group together a proper cleanup detail of a few guys and clear some levels. However, I've been having a lot of connectivity issues. The two most prominent ones are: 1) When connecting through either, "click to join," or by direct IP, the "Connecting" message pops up, fades, then a message akin to, "Connection Attempt Stopped" comes up a few moments later 2) When connecting through either, "click to join," or Steam invites / Steam "join game," the game freezes up for the host and for the player attempting to join for several seconds, then resumes without any connection. Connection overall seems to be random - one day a player could connect to me, the next he couldn't. Once I connected to a host, then after he left attempted to connect to another player that had been in the game and we couldn't connect. I've done all the things like port forwarding and firewall issues. Additionally, I've hosted games that required a static host for the game without issue, so I think there's something going on behind the scenes in VCD. I know the game is still very much a work in progress, and I'm hoping that networking will be a big focus at some point. If anyone has any suggestions for fixes please let me know, I'd very much appreciate it. And thanks for the great game, devs! |

Hmm, one thing you could try if Steam is being annoying, is to run and join the game with Steam off. Keeping in mind that the host must also have hosted with Steam off. To launch the game without Steam, you can run the UDK.exe file under "Binaries\Win32\" But this is more of a last resort. A connection that works then sometimes doesn't sounds like poor network speeds, but it could also be many other things. We are looking into it. |
