Post subject:  "Built With UDK" issue

Ok so, my wife is trying to play this game. We keep encountering the "Built With UDK" crash. Graphics drivers up to date, windows up to date through windows update and asus update. Not sure where to go from here. Only thing I have noticed is this :

I run a cache integrity and get 6 files fail and are re-downloaded.
I run the game, get the Built with UDK error.
I run the cache integrity... and get 6 files fail and are re-downloaded.

Any help is much appreciated!

Hi!

Have you tried running the UE3Redist.exe file manually from the game's "Binaries\Redist" folder?

Have you tried manually installing .NET 4.5 from the Microsoft website? .NET 4.5


If you have in-fact tried both of these, could you please post the contents of your most recent Launch.log file, located in the game's "UDKGame\Logs" folder? So we can get a clearer idea of what's going on.

Both of your suggestions, attempted. Crash still happening. I've located the launch txt file, but its completely empty.

Oh dear...That's not good, not good at all. :?

Maybe try launching the game's EXEs in windows 7 compatibility mode, if you're on windows 8.
Otherwise, try "Run as Admin" as well.
You'll find the game EXEs under "Binaries\Win32(64)\UDK.exe"

Runnin Windows 7 here, fully updated. Tried running as admin for both 32 and 64 bit forms of the game. 64 bit instantly built with udk error'ed. 32 bit hung for awhile before doing the same. Still nothing in the launch txt file. Got about 15 dmp files in the launch file's folder.

Running cache integrity says 6 files fail to validate. Steam redownloads them, attempting to run the game via steam or directly from the games 32 or 64 bit folders both built with udk error. Running a cache integrity check once again 6 file validates.

If it helps any this laptop is an asus g73.

I think I'm getting this issue, but I'm not 100% sure. Windows 7 64bit, NVidia GTX-670 - driver version is 335.23.

What happens is I start the game, the screen goes black, the intro movies play sound, but I don't see any video, then my desktop shows up with the game still running in the background.

Any attempt to focus it repeats the process.

This only started happening when I switched to full screen mode (and possibly 1920x1080).

Is there a way to reset the config so that it runs in windowed mode again?

I've run the UE3Redist program and the .NET update with no effect.

I've attached the launch.log file in case it helps :)

So, there were no problems before you went to full-screen? :think:

If that's the case, maybe try finding the UDKSystemSettings.ini file under "UDKGame\Config"

Set the desired resolution values, and fullscreen to true.
If that doesn't work, set the desired resolution values and Fullscreen to false.

Then run the game and see what happens.

I set Fullscreen to False and the game starts and actually shows intro movies.

Oddly enough, the resolution in that file was 1280x720, if I change it to 1920x1080 and set Fullscreen to true, everything appears to work.

Yeah, it seems that when the UDK engine goes fullscreen, it uses the size of the window at that time, so it fullscreens a size that is less than the actual monitor size.

This seems to cause problems for some systems, as they can't handle odd resolutions like that. :-\

Sorry for taking so long to follow up with my wife's issue. I read the thread updates and decided I would try poking around in the .ini file. As fate would have it, right as I launched her steam client you all pushed through a patch.

Not sure what was in that patch, but the game is working perfectly now, so what ever was in it tymuch :)

Yeah, so, how am I supposed to fix this if I'm on a Windows Vista computer? Cuz SP3 isn't available for Windows Vista yet...

You get a "Built with UDK Has Stopped Working" error, yes?

Try posting the contents of the game's Launch.log file here, you can find this file under the game's install folder, under "\UDKGame\Logs\Launch.log"

Then I should be able to tell what causes the crash, since there are several possible suspects. :think:

It would appear your graphics card and its drivers do not support the game and are too old to run it. :?

What Graphics Card (GPU) do you have?

If you have however managed to play similar games before, the chances are your card is broken, or drivers are faulty.

Doesn't look good either way. :-\

Honestly, I had no idea, but thank you for the information. Once I get a new Graphics Card, which hopefully should be soon, this problem will leave.
