Windows XP SP3, Steam version of the game. Problem may have cropped up in v0.31 or earlier, but definitely not the Humble Bundle standalone up to V0.29.

Haven't seen this kind of prompt in many years, so naturally I'm suspicious of the worst (warez in your game). Hitting cancel crashes the game and I don't want to click any other option until I hear something along the lines of "we forgot to set a flag somewhere, it'll be fixed next patch."

FYI, I tried uploading the image as an attachment here. 510 KB png image, 960x540 pixels. Upload limit is set at 200 KB :doh:

That...is certainly irregular, it's also the first time this problem has ever appeared and I'm pretty damn sure nothing about the recent updates could have caused that. :think:

I assure you, there is no Malware in VCD's files or the like.

By the looks of it, it's an account issue. Does your computer have multiple accounts?
You know your computer better than I, so would likely have a better idea of the cause.

There is however one possible game-related cause, the Unreal Engine's EULA:
To attempt to fix it, do the following:


Download this file: Automatic EULA accept App

Place the file under "\Binaries\" in your main game folder, run it, then click on "Accept EULA" and then "Yes".

Then launch the game and see if it's kind to you. :)


At this point, without more info, I can't really declare any other solution. :?

It's weird because this is the standard "run as..." prompt in WinXP, which is indeed used to run an executable as a different user than the one currently logged in. I selected run as current user and it took me to the UDK EULA. I accepted and the next popup was 'UnSetup has encountered a problem and needs to close'. Next popup was 'BUILT WITH UDK has encountered a problem'... Send/Don't Send error report, etc. Looks like I'm in the same boat as a lot of other threads here. Bummer. Time to go through the list of things to try.

Wonder if it has anything to do with the semi-recent Steam Beta. FYI, I run from Steam and get a Steam popup to either Play VCD or Launch 64-bit. I choose VCD, as this is a 32 bit OS.

Edit: So I unchecked the 'protect my computer from unauthorized activity' (as the current user), accepted the UDK EULA, and then the game started up with no problem. Exit/restart Steam and still no issues on startup. Perhaps Windows Firewall was preventing -whatever UnSetup is- from running?

How do we know if we're running the current version?

Mine says 0.3 on the title screen, but this forum thread says the latest version is 0.32.

How would I know if I'm running 0.32 and if not, where to d/l it? (yes I paid for the alpha).

The Steam version is always up-to-date, and the title screen is where you will tell what version it is. :)

If you've downloaded it from Humble, it might be a couple versions behind since that gets updated less often due to the fact that the entire game has to be uploaded each time, instead of just the parts that have changed. :?

Yes I have the DRM free version (don't worry I have ZERO intention of pirating it, I just desire DRM free these days, it's a thing) from humble, so it looks like I'll have to check my d/l link periodically.

The link to 'redownload' will be updated automatically from humble, or do I have to request a new 'd/l' link, or whathaveyou?

I'm sorta new to humble, I mainly use GOG.

The Humble version is currently being updated and should hopefully be ready for downloading tomorrow. :)

The humble download section should give you some info about what version it'll be, or when it was last updated. :think:

The version will be v0.32 once uploaded.
