Post subject:  Problems during first time setup
I got Viscera Cleanup Detail just the other day, and tried running it through steam. Whenever I try to launch the game, steam has to go through a first time setup, which it tries but ultimately doesn't work out when installing "UnSetup.exe" An error message shown up saying

"To run this program you must install one of the following versions of the .NET Framework:
V.4.0.30319
Contact your application publisher for instructions about obtaining the appropriate version of the .NET Framework."

I went to go check my installed .NET Framework versions, and surely enough I had the correct version, and version 4.5 as well. I fiddled around with a few of Microsoft's solutions, like using their fixer for the .NET Framework, but none of them worked even after restarting my computer.

I ended up running a .NET Framework verification service but I don't know if I should post the results here.

Hmm, that's very odd.

UnSetup fails with a .NET framework error and installing 4.5 has no effect. :think:

The only thing I can think of would be to try this:

Download this file: Automatic EULA accept App

Place the file under "\Binaries\" in your main game folder, run it then click on "Accept EULA" and then "Yes".

Launch the game and pray it works.


If it still doesn't work, could you post the contents of your Launch.log file here please?
You can find the log file in your game's install folder, under "\UDKGame\Logs"
If it has something in it, I might be able to gather a clearer picture of what it's doing. :think:

Alright, I tried using the EULA accepting program but it didn't work. I then went to try to find the .log file, but I guess that because the game never actually starts running and the first time setup is what breaks, a log is never created (I attempted to search *.log in the directory but the launch one did not appear). I have avast antivirus, and I thought it might've been interfering and disabled it but it didn't do the trick either. I deleted all local files and re-installed the game, and it still does not work. I also attempted other launch options, none of which work and return the same error. I think I may have found the issue in .NET Framework itself.

The problem is that the framework is returning a CLR error, so the runtime isn't loading at all on my computer. This one is caused by .NET Framework failing to update mscoree.dll in system32, yet still reporting that the framework had successfully installed at the same time. Very strange. This is a problem with the OS itself so I'm bringing it elsewhere. I will post if I have a solution incase others are having issues. I'm going to run the System File Checker, and if that doesn't work I plan on using the system update readiness tool to see if there are problems with windows updating. Once again, I'll post if any of these solve the problem.

Oh man dude, I just freaking fixed it.

I went through and replaced the mscoree files. I followed these instructions and it worked! This is amazing.

In case anyone has the same problem please go to the above link and give it a shot. I'm gonna go play myself some games now.
