This was just a thought- I really love to use the M50's camera functionality, as I find it amusing to be able to stick it somewhere in a room, hide in the next, and pop out to an unsuspecting victim & blast away... Of course, there are plenty of other situations I like to use it in as well, and I'm sure you folks have all come across your own "fun times" with the M50's LCD.

My only gripe is that it only works with the M50. If I run out of ammo, or if I'd rather use a different weapon, I'm forced to loose the fun of having that camera functionality. So, I was thinking that, perhaps you guys could consider adding little LCDs to other weapons (The tactical shotgun, for example) that don't actually carry the camera itself, but if the user has an M50 and has placed the camera, the M50 can "intelligently relay the camera signal to any other weapons equipped with the same viewing technology," (just to give an "excuse.") That way, it would keep the M50 as the primary host of the camera, but wouldn't limit the player to the M50 (Although I'm guessing that was the point, but these are just thoughts)

Again, just tossing out some ideas...

Ahh, excellent... It would be good if you could pick up cameras and stick them on walls seperate from guns. Then we give several weapons the LCDs. There would also be a monitor device that could be not a weapon or like a thing thats on your HUD.
These plans were intended a long time ago along with some other tricky ideas. Maybe we get to implementing them sometime...

Hmm. Maybe just moving the camera to the hud froma a mount on the weapon would be good. I mean, that you guys managed to do a scripted texture on a weapon model like that is awesome, but that it's only useable on on weapon IS a good point.

So, yeah, I'd say either hud or a seperate camera control-thingy.

And this again raises the old issue of making the cameras lethal somehow.

or just have it so that even if you have no ammo whatsoever for the M50 you could still use the camera system (so you could still switch to that empty gun).

Ok, we could have a hand held camera thing. You could dual wield it with a handgun though!
Also some guns cloud have LCDs

This will all work great when our attachment system eventually comes in. That Way you get things you attach to guns and the LCD can be one of them!

I love useing the cameras, however I hate having to switch guns. Sometimes you need a shotgun, because of your location, but want to see the camera. Always switching back and forth.

Why not have a head set, like apache pilots do, that has a small screen in the top right, showing what is on the camera. You could set up 1 key on the keyboard to relate to these glasses. Cycling through 3 options:
- show - just showing a little box up in the corner of your screen,
- really show, which would zoom in like it does in the M50's when pressing special fire.
- hide - hidding the box,
Then you can always where the glasses, look quickly if you need to, hide it away from your view all together or whatever you want, but never have to switch weapons.

i well if your gonna put LCD's on leave it until the attachment system comes in.

I'm in agreement with Ugly. And attaching it to the HUD would just be dumb. The hud doesn't need cluttered up more.

That headset screen is on our 'equipment' list. We've wanted that for along time now...

Heh... Nice to see the idea might take wings, although in a completely different direction than I was suggesting...

What I meant was that the M50 would remain as the camera "host"; I.E. you get the camera with the M50, and only with the M50, and the camera only works if you have the M50. Other weapons with the similar display tech could recieve the signal, but nothing else; therefore, if you didn't have your own M50 w/ it's camera, then the displays on other LCD mounting weapons would simply display static... This way, the M50 would remain as "the gun with the camera," but players wouldn't be forced to use the M50, just have it in their inventory. Furthermore, not every weapon would be able to access the camera functionality. (Or you'd still have to constantly switch, maintaining an inconvenience for trying to use a weapon not intended to be used with the camera)

However, I do have to say that I like Pendragon's idea, having something attatched to the hud that could be shown & hidden on command, and then have the camera as part of the available equipment from the get-go (In other words, it would always be in the inventory, unless an option in the Ballistics Menu was checked off either disabling camera functionality, or forcing the user to find a camera)

Just keeping the thought process goin, and glad that I didn't give a dumb idea...

It sounds like the most useful way would indeed be the hud thing.
Imo, it would work best with the equipment-stuff. Just define a eqipment-keybind to be able to place cameras. Once the camera is in place, the key that was used to deploy it changes function and toggles between 3 modes. Press once, a hud-overlay in the lower right corner will show you what the camera is looking at. Press a second time and the view switches completely to the camera, so you can adjust direction and zoom. Press a third time and the camera view is deactivated. That is useful, functional and a lot less work than attaching a screen to other weapons. Especially because the full-screen-view couldn't be triggered from most other weapons anyway, because the special function key has already a different purpose.

By the way, that inspires me on some further thoughts on the equipment stuff. I'll put the other half of my post into the "Equipment"-thread, to prevent this discussion from going off-topic.

Before I say anything else, I wanted to point out that I was impliing you could wear the head set while holding any other weapos, so you wouldn't have to do weapons changing.

You know talking about being inspired to do other things, I was thinking. I don't want to knock the M50 and the camera. They were great. And so were huts when we were living in caves. But I think we could advance the weapons one step further.

What I am saying is the weapons are mostly offensive in nature. However the camera, mines, and plastic explosives are really the only deffencive weapons we have. And the camera isn't even by itself. And the plastic explosives need to be triggered (50% of the time) making them offensive.

The mines I realize are the only real deffensive weapons we have. I challange each of you to comming up with more deffensive weapons. I belong to a clan, one of a few that are starting out in VCTF with BW mod. We depend on your weapons, and we love them. However within our clan we are starting to see roles defined. Some players are just better at deffence. I feel sad that there aren't that many deffensive weapons.

One of the only things I can think of is deployable sentanols. Like droids. However I guess this would be a topic for another Thread.

I remember me and bjossi going on and on in some thread about some cool upgrade/attachment system for BW a while back, thinks its in my old thread with my skirth weapon ideas, hope they get considered Bjossi had some really nice ideas.

the way it will probably go down, is so;

a camera device, not on a weapon, that can be placed somewhere, and viewed some how, either HUD, or bringup.. cameras will also have a defensive mechanism, like shotguns, explosives, gas, magnum, etc.. maybe incendiary.. or my favourite, laxative injection

That laxative injection could be fun. Use the explosive diarhea combo for the effects.

Ahh yes, more defensive weapons seems good, lets think back to the list... Bear trap, flash mine, gas mine, trip laser (cutting kind), tele trap, spring trap, trip gun.
Some of the guns are pretty defensive too though. Snipers, MGs.

What we want with cams. Camera pickups, handheld screen, helmet mounted screen, gun mounted screens... Screens can cycle through deployed cams.

I really like the sound of a teleportation trap... could use it to put people in bigger traps...

OR teleport them above lava pits. Could beexploited to teleport teammates to flag-bases, though, if you odn't make it drop flag on teleport.

Lava pits would be considered a bigger trap to me.
