SK44 "Reaper" Bladed Bola Launcher

Description: An unorthodox weapon that fires volleys of small, electromagnet-lined bombs strung together with high tension cable. A set of razor-sharp blades runs the length of the barrel, attached to a rotating base that is itself attached to a track that runs the length of the barrel.

Primary Fire: Launches a gravity-affected explosive bola, which spreads out quickly as it flies, then tangles back up after the cable hits its full length. Each bomb will stick to the first thing it touches, and the bola will react accordingly, either wrapping around smaller things like enemies or dangling from walls or roofs before exploding. The bombs have a delayed detonation if they don't hit any active enemies (ie: they can be strung across hallways for defense). For fire rate, I'm thinking one shot every 1.5-2 seconds. Each shot deals a total of 98 damage, spread out over seven bombs.

Secondary Fire: Winds up the blade array on the front of the gun and extends it to the end of the barrel, where it unfolds into a whirling mass of death. Just run it into somebody to chop them into bloody gibs in the blink of an eye.

Special Fire: Holding this trigger slowly rotates the barrel of the launcher, letting you launch bolas with a diagonal or vertical spread.

Fire Mode Switch: Switches between spread mode and compact mode. In spread mode, the bolas extend to their full width, making it easier to hit enemies and use most of the weapon's special tricks and traps. In compact mode, the bola stays stuck together as it flies, turning it into a powerful sticky grenade at the cost of the bola's special abilities and area of effect.

Ammo Type: Uses flattened disc-shaped ammo drums, which are mounted vertically in the weapon and rotate over the top to the front, into the chamber. I'm thinking of an ammo limit of 32 bolas, with 16 bolas to a clip and 8 bolas per pickup. Secondary fire is infinite of course.

Kill: "Abbadon hugged Arclite too hard."
Alt-Kill: "Arcliteburger ala Abbadon! Get it while it's hot!"
Suicide: "Abbadon learned to tie his own shoes."

-------------------------

This weapon is an unusual one; it does decent damage if well-aimed, but its real power comes in its ability to cripple enemies' movement, opening them up for allies' attacks or your own scything blades. You should actually be able to "tape" enemies to a wall with a well-placed shot, or span a hallway with a bola or two to control enemy movement. I think the primary fire's damage is fairly balanced considering how hard it would be to stick all seven bombs to a single enemy using the bola mode, and it will just barely let a fresh-spawned enemy survive a direct compact hit.

Any constructive criticism welcome. :)

Another amazing weapon idea MM. I fully support it.

Actually, I hda an idea like this a long time ago. It could easily use the code for the Scorpion's plasma ribbon.

Thanks, UP. This idea came to me when I had one my random thoughts...

"I wonder why the Scorpion is losing its bolas in UT3. Maybe that's being moved to a weapon..."

...then I "Ballisticified" the idea to post it here. The one I'm making for my mod still has strings of energy balls.

No i'm guessing some people didn't like it so the producers decided to get rid of it and use the bouncy balls of doom.
