KVI-9 "Cryorifle" Ice Crystal Cannon, also known as the "Popsicler" (it sounds dumb, but the reason behind it is pretty badass ;) )

Description: Uses a special crystal seeder to form razor-sharp ice crystals, which are then fired at high speeds. The weapon also contains equipment for condensing water vapor from the surrounding air into liquid form, effectively giving it infinite ammo (for primary mode, anyway...).

Primary Fire: Fires ice shards at a semi-rapid pace, about 3/second. They fly fast and are very accurate, but do relatively low damage. Firing this mode depletes your water reserves (shown on the chargebar), and you must refill the tank in some way to fire again. 13-15 damage/shot.

Fire Mode Switch: Switching firemodes allows the shots to be "charged," increasing the projectile's size and mass and greatly increasing damage. After reaching a certain mass, the huge ice spike becomes capable of impaling an opponent completely and even nailing their corpse to a wall, hence the name "Popsicler." (told ya it had a cool reason! 8) ) Damage ranges from 13-15 to instant kills depending on charge time.

Reload: Switches on the condensing unit and opens vents all along the gun, blowing air over tubes containing liquid nitrogen and condensing liquid water from the vapor in the air. The gun actually does this slowly on its own, but pressing reload speed it up greatly (think RS Lightning Gun-style reloading). Alternatively, going into deep water will immediately refill the tank, but the weapon is disabled underwater to keep it from clogging with ice.

Secondary Fire: Shoots quick bursts of high-pressure liquid nitrogen from the nozzle under the barrel. Each hit slows the victim down until they are frozen completely after 5-7 hits, leaving them open to any attack for a couple precious seconds. Because the coolant is necessary for both reloading and for freezing the primary's shards, emptying the liquid nitrogen tank will result in the entire weapon being disabled. Damage is very low, 2 or 3 per hit.

Special Fire: No ideas here. Maybe a thermal scope would fit the theme of this weapon.

Ammo Type: Pickups are small tanks of liquid nitrogen. Each tank gives enough for 30 alt-fire shots, and you can hold enough for 120 shots. Each ammo pickup also tops off your water tank for good measure. Alternatively, going into deep water will immediately refill the water tank, but the weapon is disabled underwater to keep it from clogging with ice.

Kill: "Arclite was struck down by Abbadon's chill touch."
Alt-Kill: "Abbadon found a cold cure for Arclite's hyperactivity."
Suicide: "Abbadon ran really, really fast and got in the way of his own ice shards."
Alt-Suicide: "Abbadon couldn't handle quitting cold-turkey."
Special Kill Message (used when an enemy is nailed to a wall): "Abbadon just popsicled Arclite!"
Special Suicide Message: "Abbadon somehow popsicled himself. Way to go, dumbass."

-------------------------

A versatile attack/support weapon with two rapid, accurate firemodes. While infinite ammo means this weapon is always there for some long-range blasting, it doesn't quite match up to bullets or energy bolts for damage. Impaling, however, is an instant kill, balanced by an extremely long charge time and high ammo requirement (~7 seconds and at least 3/4 water level). In team matches and especially CTF/BR, the alternate freezing firemode steals the show, as a single support unit can slow down an entire enemy party while his team smashes their merry way through the pretty ice sculptures. Unfortunately, this weapon is nigh-useless when vehicles are involved... Could this be a Cryon weapon?

Any constructive criticism welcome. :)

We like, its just complex and stuff along those lines. Then again, i haven't full read it yet, and 12: 22 AM is not the time to do such things.

Wow, fast response now that nobody has to be the first poster. :@

Agreed, long sentences suck late at night. Maybe tomorrow.

I like the idea, I just don't like the infinite ammo part of it; nitrogen can't be created from thin air nor can water, or any molecule for that matter.

Pre-cooled liquid nitrogen is only obtained in ammo packs, and the gun condenses water from the vapor that is in the air everywhere. It's damage per second isn't the best though and you have to "reload" the water every so often, keeping this balanced.

make water packs, but they would be included with the normal ammo. And make it that you can sip out water from pools and such.

And drink it for yourself. Which wouldn't help you, it'd just be funny.

Sounds cool.

That is hardly a quick enough process to fire more than a few ice-crystals per minute. If you put some water into the ammo packs it would fix this problem.

But hey, it's your idea, and I'm not against a little unrealism every now and then.

Great weapon idea by the way.

Glad to finally get some feedback!

About reloading: In reality this would be a slow process, but then again in reality, this entire weapon is currently unrealistic. I'd rather have a consistent level of "unrealism" than having a bizarre and awesome weapon that you can't fire because no ammo exists for it. :@ Maybe it could work like the RS's lightning gun and refill at a slow rate on its own, but speed up when you hold down reload (some fans blow air over the condenser to get more water through there?).

I agree completely with both points in your post. 8)

As a side note, I think RS should create a new race for the BW universe that specializes in ice & coldness, there have been more than one idea of a weapon with the cold theme.

I kinda figured the Cryons were the cold-based race...

It could also be Cryons, and I believe you can sort of imagine what their main activity would be, heh.

That could work, vents open all along the gun and more air is sucked in. Also, it's not entirely unrealistic. Granted, this is the world's most deadly ice lolly machine, but scientists have achieved near-absolute zero temperatures, almost -273 'c. What if by *insert Terran-Skirth War date here* they had created a holding field for the temperature and its source, and then minimised that to fit into a weapon, or a backpack at least which would connect to the weapon?

The backpack could have large vents/ fans on it to suck in water vapour, which would be rushed past the cold source in its containment field and pumped into another containment field within the weapon when you hold reload. In case of emergency pressure, the gas in the backpack around the cold source can be vented through the gun, and in turn this can be used as an attack.

Yeah that went from science lesson to the first draft of the weapon's bio... take any bits you find interesting.
