i think removing dodgeing and double jump should be optional

I dont intend for dodging to be removed. As for double jumping; With the idea's we have so far in this thread, double jumping wont be needed in theory.

Well since the whole thing might come as a complete movement package. Im sure the option to swtich between UT2 style and the new style will be available



Yea it could be tricky, but not impossible. Its a matter of creating your own meshes and assigning more key commands

im quite confident however that it wont have too much impact on the games pace. So long as movement isnt significantly nerfed we should be fine.

Im thinking that dodge jump may have to be kept anyway due to its strong connection with map design, either that or increase single jumps.

Yeah, but I have to admit that banning double jumping in BW altogether is a nice thought.

Longer leaps and ledge grabbing might just compensate for the lack of double jumping anyway. You wont even need it.

Its not the double jumping that needs to go anyway, its the "jumping off mid air". We can retain double jumps for getting over walls so long as you are against one.

If you roll right before you hit the floor, you get less damage?
It would be really good timing if you got it, so it needs some skill. It can safe you from high falls easily.

Also, at UT2004, you can fall so damn far. Lets make that somewhat shorter.

Well, you can survive pretty long falls without too much damage already.
Rolling or jumping off the tower in CTF-Face wouldn't make a difference realistically, you should die both ways assuming the gravity of the asteroid is as strong as earth's. (which is a long-shot assumption, obviously)

I think we got the majority of common combat moves down already. Anything else will lead to acrobatics.

I had another thought to address long jumps that require a double jump or dodge jump to cross:

Rather than make dodges longer we could also try a Half-life style "leap"* Where you...

-Get a running start
-Duck for a microsecond
-and jump normally

...to gain extra momentum. It only works when jumping forward. And requires a bit of timing, but it can send you flying up to 4 times further than a normal jump can.

we can stylise it as just a long jump just like in the olympics.

*I am not suggesting we add Half-Lifes jump pack. Knowing Unreal Tournament; you sure dont need any mechanical assistance to leap as far as you could using that thing
