Here's an idea inspired by "The Prophecy" [ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114194/ ] The movie itself isn't terribly interesting, but it does feature a rather cool weapon: a spear that can be used to rip out people's (angels', actually) hearts. You basically ram it into someone's back or chest as you would a normal spear, all the way through so that the front end exits on the other side. Once this is done, a couple of hooks or spikes (3, I think) fold out of the front end of the staff. Basically think of a long umbrella minus the fabric (and some other changes, obviously). Anyway, the spear is then violently retracted and rips the still beating heart from the victim's chest. If the UT code supports this sort of thing, you might have different heart extraction effects per species. Normal hearts for humans, greenish / slimy / whatever hearts for aliens, and power cores (or batteries, LOL) for robots. Of course there would be plenty of blood and gore...
The heart rippin' melee attack would actually be the altfire function. Primary would be a (whitish, angelic) energy bolt, relatively slow rof but decent damage. This wasn't in the movie, btw, but it would make the lance a more interesting weapon. Melee / ranged combo weapons are teh coolest, imo.
How does it fit into the Ballistic universe? Dunno, maybe the Skrith (sp?) use it, or maybe it's just a wild card of sorts. Anyway, I think it might be fun. |

It sounds cool, maybe there would be no heart, but when it retracts the player attacked would explode into pieces. But the problem might be 3rd person effects and also 1st person stab effects. |

Yeah, it would probably be tricky in various ways, maybe even borderline impossible do do right on this engine, I dunno... but it sure would be something else! Hm, maybe instead of tearing out someone's heart, the spear could *insert* something, say an alien egg that hatches inside the victim within an x number of secs, after which a monster (could be one or more INV pupae if you want to do it on the cheap) burts out in a shower of gibs and attacks other players? That would be so cool... And prim could be still be some kind of disc-shaped (or whatever) energy projectile, because, well, that's cool to imo. Just a nice alien combo gun.

Yeah it could gib the player then spawn 2 or 3 of those spider things.... Hey, what if the alt-fire had a vampire, take their hp, give me hp effect? like a blood sucker? |

(about that spear weapon) that sounds more like a torture device than a weapon that some one would carry around. i am going to stick with the knifes, claws, blades and stuff that doesn't sound weird as S***. there is no way the unreal engine could produce something that has that much detail. i dont know of an engine that could do that as of now.................. the alien idea could work though, most likely take a little coding though ![]() Post edited by: James, at: 2006/01/22 06:04 |

That would just be weird... What about a weapon like the painkiller weapon from Painkiller? Spinning blade on a small device that cuts organs out of enemies in a matter of a second or two. Would be pretty damn deadly, and kickass at the same time. |

Yeah, or one of those flying things in HL2. The manhacks. |

The manhacks might be good as invasion enemies, but they were pain in the ass in HL2, and will be in UT2004 if they get added. :P

The problem is hitting them, may aim sucks when it comes to moving targets. So I prefer the Crowbar or the Gravity Gun against the manhacks. |

The alien thing would actually be pretty straightforward, unless you want to add a fancy custom alien model instead of a pupae or whatever. The original idea might also be doable, a lot depends on whether you can auto detect the species of your victim etc. Apart from that, some custom animations would be needed, but not fundamentally different from the other melee attacks afaik. Then again, I'm no coder / modeler, so... Some other secondary fire options would be: insertion of radioactive material or poison that slowly kills the victim, insertion of a timed explosive (maybe even a micro nuke or incendiary bomb), or you know, a simple straightforward stab attack... Btw, the U4E team seems to have (largely, partially?) solved the melee / custom animations problem: (from the U4E forums, http://u4e.dangerous-minds.net/viewtopi ... 1ca0d4e968 ) "...For instance, *ALL* U4E weapons that needed special character animations now use them. When you shoot a bow, your character pulls the arrow back and shoots it. When you throw a grenade, your character will physically throw it. And when you go CRAZY with a Katana, your character will like wise go all Charlie Manson with the Katana. I think it adds alot to realism, and just plain COOLNESS! We'll be doing this with ALL future U4E weapons that need it. I was going to break my back to make all custom U4E player models do this, but we found a way to make ALL player models do that, or at least the ones that use the "Standard" skeletal bone names. It's SOOO Cool!" |
