The weapons in BW are so packed with functions, I think it would be really helpful to have a way to set what state we want each weapon to come up in, even just a simple .ini file parameter to edit, eg. if we wanted the the RS8 to have the silencer and laser on, the AM67 to start in burst mode, the M50 in semi, etc. etc. |

Possible, Yet Lazy. |

Sorry, I'd rather not have to juggle pistols and toggle modes while getting shot at to get the configuration that I want to use. Do you have fun doing that, or something? |

Geez, no need to get snippy... I've thought about how this would be kinda nice too, and yes, it is rather lazy, but it'd still be nice. By the way, its not very time consuming to switch fire modes or turn on a laser, etc...

Xav spoke my mind. If you feel like it takes you too long to press a button once or twice, you should visit a doctor rather than request an option. |

Captain Xavious wrote: By the way, its not very time consuming to switch fire modes or turn on a laser, etc... ![]() Ok, but what if you want to dual-wield RS8s in burst mode with the silencer and laser on, and you're spawning right near firefights to boot? You have to switch to the weapon, change the fire mode, change the laser, wait for the silencer animation to complete, hit dual-wield, THEN switch hands and do it all again with the second pistol. That takes a few seconds that you might not have if there's someone breathing down your neck. Why the hell is everyone jumping on my case that it's OMG SO LAZY!!? I think it's quite a valid suggestion, and I have the user-friendliness of the mod in mind, perhaps everyone ought to actually think about it before they rush to criticize. Forgive me if I sound snippy, but I'm just responding. It seems like everyone picked up a bad attitude since 2.0 came out. |

Jesus christ, it is suddenly a horrible thing if you miss a few moments of a fire fight? I wouldn't say your suggestion is lazyness like the others, but I have my reasons to think this idea has no home in BW. |

It's a horrible thing when you're getting fragged while juggling pistols, instead of fighting. There are many seperate features packed into each weapon, and now dual-wielding gives you another weapon to set up. A few of the options (switching dual-weapons, putting on silencers), are not instantaneous, you have to wait. I'd rather be paying attention to my aim and enemy movements than having to pay attention to the number of times and in what order I have to hit keys to set up my weapons. Maybe I use a lot more non-default options than you guys, I don't know. I just think that when the weapons have so many functions, it would be a real help to be able to set the defaults ourselves. I thought the value of that would be self-evident. Bjossi, if indeed you are not simply flaming my idea in order to look cool, or whatever, what are your reasons for opposing the idea? I'd be interested to know. |

It's not like the silencer does anything useful. |

It's not like the silencer does anything useful. How is that a reason to not include the feature? I thought you were going to say something about weapon balance, like having to set stuff up is a trade-off for be able to use those things. I don't use the silencers, it was just an example. I have my hands full (no pun) already with just fire modes in dual-wielding. In fact, it was dual-wielding that prompted me to suggest this, and no one who posted so far wants to acknowledge how relatively complicated setting up stuff for that can be. Let me make it clear that I absolutely love the flexibility RS have built in. I am not here complaining about how it works, I am merely suggesting a feature to improve user-friendliness. I don't know why you guys are so down on an optional feature that you wouldn't even have to bother with if you don't want. |

This option just seems fairly useless compared to the others. Limit it too silencers only and that would improve it greatly, since the silencer is the only one that takes more than 0.01 seconds to tweak. |

Run away. run away from the fighting, then join back once your done with the dual wielding, its what i do, defiantly when reloading. |

On the contrary, I think it would be most useful for fire modes, especially in the context of dual-wielding (like I keep saying). I was just playing with two AM67s in burst mode. I have to pull out my pistol, cock it (wait for that animation), change the mode, pull out a second (wait for cock animation), switch guns (wait for switch animation), change second mode. It all takes time, and you are defenseless while you're sitting around fiddling. And maybe you also have lasers, or stocks, or whatever to activate, as well. Lasers look damn cool akimbo. I don't have a problem hitting a key to go from semi- to auto-. I don't have a problem hitting a key to bring up a second pistol. I don't even have a problem waiting for a cocking animation to complete the first time I unholster a weapon. But when all these things start stacking up, it creates a distraction from the actual gameplay, and I would like to be able to mitigate that somehow. Like I said, I don't need some kind of fancy UI menu to set all that stuff, a simple parameter in an .ini file would just be nice. |

I never was against this idea in the first place, but I'm not taking back my saying it's lazy. I had thought about this idea long ago, I think it'd be kind of nice. Gives you a bit more personalization to the game. Plus it makes it so you don't need to hit buttons every round to get the weapons in a way to suit your tastes. Although to be fair, if there is a fire fight, I would not take the time to put on silencers, let alone pull out a second hand gun.

Wouldn't it be nice not to have to do that as much? I'm not complaining. I'm not here to discuss tactics. I'm suggesting a feature. If it's RS's intent to have us running away and hiding so much (and I'm not so sure it is, they went so far as to include an option to disable reloading, didn't they? I don't see them being flamed as lazy), they can say "no way" discard this idea. Until then, I'm going to promote an idea that I, as a player, think would provide an improved flow of gameplay. |

I'm not against the idea as I said above, I just think this is enough for the silencers, since the other options like the fire mode switcher & laser can be configured in no time at all by pressing the correct button. |

If I recall correctly, it was Bjossi who suggested that the SMG start with the silencer off. ... ... ...yeah. Starting with the gun you actually want is lazy. And that didn't even affect the weapon's gameplay.

But if a weapon comes up in the laser/firemode configuration you want right off the bat, there will be no need to juggle when dual-wielding, which is more time-consuming than simply pressing a key. I've said a few times already, and I'll say it again, that I suggested this mainly to streamline dual-wielding. It would merely be a small helpful, yet optional feature when using single weapons. |

I think dualwielding needs to be improved in usability rather than adding a few options to make it quicker. I have never tried the BW dualwielding so I don't know how it works, but it sounds like it needs some usability improvements. |

Yeah, try it out next time you play a match, I think you'll get the idea of what I mean. It can be a lot of fun, but requires a bit of fiddling if you want to do something other than the defaults. RS did a good job implementing it while maintaining a lot of flexibility, I just thought this would be a simple way to improve it a little. |

It is, I just think instead of adding options they could improve the usability inside the main code itself. Ie, a non-optional improvement. |

i think it would be nice to have a default firemode selector, but only in loadout, since thats what loadout is it is the weapons you chose to take into the fight and one would probably have taken the time to flip the fire selector into the mode they wanted if they picked the gun so awesome idea, i support it...just not high on the priority list |

On a related note, would it be possible to have guns remember their states when dropped/thrown? It's rather irritating to have to cock a half-empty machine gun from a fresh kill even though it should be cocked already. Or have to re-apply the silencer on a dropped (silenced) SRS. Also, dual wielding is rather clunky right now, especially when trying to switch to a non-dual weapon with the scroll wheel. I've been tagged several times trying to switch to mines while dualing D49s. It kept switching the left hand to an assault pistol I had picked up instead of switching to the other weapons. Made me angry. |

Alright, after some thinking and reading, I'm going BACK on-topic with this post, namely i do think that this would in fact be a good idea, maybe not the silencer or laser,s cause those are activated by alt fire or special function. But i think having the game remember what fire mode the weapon will be on when its obtained by the user would be awesome. And it'd be even better if we didn't have to go into the damn ini. Maybe just make a customization tab page in the BW config menu for this, it would list out ALL BW weapons and would have drop down bars beside them showing the fire mode for them to be in upon pickup. I'd love to have my grenades set to Long Throw for default. |

That's not really what I meant. What I meant was, that when a person cocks a weapon and for some reason or other drops it, whether from tossing it or dying, the person who picks up that weapon shouldn't have to cock it again. Likewise, if he puts on the silencer before dropping it, the next person to pick it up should have a silenced weapon. You know, it would be really neat to see a gun's laser sight stay on when dropped. Pointless, but cool. |
