here's my thoughts on grenade kicking, the feature is great to have but having to press the action button for it is a little difficult to handle, hence the following proposal:

instead of having the grenade kicking through the action button, would it be possible to code it to BW Sprinting so that while sprinting you automatically kick the grenade

now before everyone gets in an uproar about unbalancing and such, how about if you can only kick grenades when the sprint bar is half full or greater?

I would have found it cooler if you could pick them up and toss them like in Star Wars Republic Commando or Call of Duty 3.

I wouldn't pick up a grenade... There's barely enough time to kick them even...

yeah i wouldnt pick up a grenade either...throwing Uglypants(while he goes to pick up a grenade) on to one to save my own ass is always an option though

come to think of it that would be interesting the ability to throw your teamate or opponent onto a grenade

anyway id just like to see the kicking be easier

You'd like that wouldn't you. Well i still think grenade throwing would be more practical, because you can aim the thing in the short amount of time you have. Also, did you even consider that maybe the guys in the tournament are crappy soccer players?

it would be cool if during the kicking process, the grenade explode, damaging you, but the cool part would be that you'd be missing your legs, crawling on the ground, then if you get health blamo, back to normal.

Nah, if you lose your legs you'd just have to wait for someone to kill you or defend yourself by using the remaining limbs.

Your typical grenade doesn't explode on impact... if a simple kick would be enough to set it off, don't you think chucking it at walls and other hard surfaces detonate them before a kick?

I don't know, feet are a lot stronger than arms so you can in theory cause harsher hit by kicking.

I still don't see why you'd want to kick grenades instead of throwing them.

Because the process of reaching down to pick up a grenades takes precious seconds more than swinging your foot towards it, plus you also might want to aim and follow through and throw the grenade.

I still think grenade throwing makes more sense.

I have not tried to kick one yet, but I could see becoming busier than a one legged man in *ss kicking contest if you played a round with only grenades as weapons, in fact you will probably end up one legged.

You'll end up with none, seeing how powerful the grenades are, cause they blow you up like the G5 does. Hey a lighter grenade that when it kills you, only gibs off a little bit of you (like the legs) would be neato.

That process is not present in this game.

Yeah, but still you gotta take into account the time to switch to the grenade, you want some time to aim, and also to throw it. Could take a second or two, and considering the 'nades have only 4-5 five second fuses and often are in the air and/or moving for a second or two before you get to them, that one little second it takes to throw it would mean it either blows up in your hand or shortly in front of your face after throwing it.

In CoD3 it didn't take long, about 2 seconds or so after pickup. If throwing grenades goes into the game, if you in the vicinity of picking it up to throw it, the top of the screen should have writing saying hold E to pickup grenade.

2 seconds after pickup?! Thats half of the fuse right there!
You need about a second of flight time before the grenade is far enough away from you so that you aren't in the blast radius.

That adds up to roughly 3 seconds... and assuming you find the grenade as it lands, you don't have much time but to chuck it in an unaimed direction and hope it gets out fast enough to be out of harms way.

Whatever, i didn't explain it correctly i and doubt i can. trust me X, grenade throwing would be way cooler than grenade kicking.

Since there's barely enough time to even hit the Use key to kick it, I think what Rayne suggested; automatically kicking when running, would be ideal.

throwing will technically work for toxic grenades, because you can pick it up and throw it when it still has gas in it.

ok...having most likely been the only one who a has worked with grenades(and had my own near death experience with one)...i'll do my best to explain why you dont want to pick them up

throwing back of grenades is usually an immediate thing(very well shown in movies such as saving private ryan)...ie you catch it mid air or it just hits the ground right next to you...both these instances are rare in real life and often they are a few feet away.

lets do some simple math...fuse of a grenade is about 3.5 seconds to 5 seconds for the rare long fuse grenades...with others being longer....3-3.5 is the usual minimum

average flight time...we'll be be generous and say 1 second to 1.5 seconds
so with a 3.5 second fuse you now have 2 seconds or less to react in total
you want the grenade away from you so it doesnt kill you when it blows...thats about a 1-1.5 second return trip...
now you have half a second to bend over and kiss ur butt goodbye while you go pick up the grenade
with a 5 second fuse you have a bit more time so yeah you could possibly run over pick up the grenade and pray that it doesnt explode

heres the other factor...you dont know if the grenade was cooked which takes time off the fuse....so you have the short process of kicking it, or the longer process of picking it up and throwing it

other factor to consider, kicking is much less disruptive to running than bending over and picking up the grenade..and unreal is one of the more fast paced games out there...ergo speed counts

kicking a grenade will not detonate it unless you are superman or the hulk and you are stomping on it, the fuses are not a trigger or elaborate timer like most people think, it is actually a chemical reaction initiated upon release of the grenade "spoon" which is the last safety

now most likely in real life a smart person would not pick up a grenade, or kick one, one would dive to the nearest cover as that is how you are trained...by all means if you are lucky enough to catch a grenade, get rid of it, or just pretend its they olympic torch and run while ur buddies run the other way

and for kylin rage throwing toxin grenades very plausable...personally id still not rather bend over into a object that is spewing poision gas...its bad enough with CS (tear gas) grenades at that concentration

kicking is the best we got, since we already have dodging
