At the current BW, you can walk over an object and you get it.

A cool change would be that you must press USE to grap any pickup. So you need to look at the pickup, press use, and you got it.
With this, you could walk over places without picking it up. Leaving it behind for teammates who need it more.

This feature can be combined with many, many other feature ideas in here. Such as the new Armor system.

You don't wanna look at an item and then press a key to pick it up in the middle of an intense firefight, would ya...?

Besides, throwing stuff at your teammates is good enough. Plus, BW pick-ups already have a very, very tiny touch radius, forcing you to pick up items when you are directly above it.

This would fit better with slower paced SP games. For fast-paced MP games, this would do more harm than good.

This idea should have been in Half-Life 2 but im afraid Bjossi is correct.

This should be in all slow-paced games in my opinion.
Don't you hate situations like fx. when you have 99 HPs and there is a +25 HP healthpack that is unavoidable in a narrow corridor? This happens all the time in older games like Quake, and even Doom 3 has situations like these.

In Half life 2 I just didnt want to clutter myself up with everything that came my way. Yea it was annoying.

Its a common issue, Halo is the only single player game I can think of that does not have it.

Yeah, and what's with that? Gordon Freeman can store a shotty in his sock, an rpg in his back pocket, and a grav gun stuffed in his pants, but super-strong Master Chief can hold only 2 weapons. Sorry, but i just HAD to say that.

Anyways, I think this would be a great option, but I don't think you should have to look at it, maybe just have it on screen, if multiple pick ups are there, maybe pick up one nearest you and nearest your crosshair or perhaps just pick them all up. Having to look directly at the pickup would really be the only thing that'd slow you down.

When playing against bots I can easily pick up a few extra FP9s on the run by hitting the use key while running past each one.

Overall I love this idea. I'd also love the option of being able to carry only five weapons in loadout. I choose those weapons for a reason, don't want or need those other weapons which end up just cluttering my inventory.

Hmm I overlooked the Loadout crowd, this would be perfect for loadout players who dont always want to collect everything. But then again loadout players dont even need to pick anything up, DM players do.

Make it an option. I still want to be able to scoop up whatever comes my way on a near instant.

Or just add a checkbox in your client-side config "Automatic Weapon Pickup" Never too many checkboxes.
