Basically, I thought that blood wouldn't stay the same color, so I thought that it would be neat if blood went into 3 stages.

1. The blood is at first bright, and wet. It would be neat if bloody footprints were added upon stepping on it XD.

2. The blood starts getting dull. Blood red or neon green starts darkening into brown red or something, and the blood starts drying.

3. The blood goes completely dull and dry, fading away slowly.


For the gore chunks, maybe it should go like this:

1. Initial state upon coming out. Should look normal and stuff like that.

2. Gore chunks start drying, maybe a fly or two would add a disgusting effect.

3. The chunk starts sinking into the ground, should look pretty messed up at this point.

I don't know if this would work though. I know the engine is very limited in capacity.

It would take several hours for any of that to happen. You'd have to really speed up the process, and it would just look really weird to see a piece of meat decompose over the course of a minute.

If they can pull that off in MKA, I'm sure it will look alright here.

Mortal Kombat (if that's what you're referring to) is a goofy over-the-top fighting game with lighting gods and magic. This game is a little more grounded in reality (not much more, but a little).

What I mean is I'm sure that it is still possible to have it darken, even though it goes at an unrealistic rate. Maybe it stays in stage one for around 10 seconds and slowly reverts to stage 2, then goes to stage 3.

I wasn't aware that he was talking about decay of the gibs, I thought it was just the drying of them, which is quite possible. Probably have to be a bit faster than in real life for it to really have any noticeable effect, like KylinRage said, but it wouldn't be too far fetched.

On a less depressing note, Decaying would be a little much,but I like the idea of blood drying over time.

Why not add the effect of blood dripping of the walls and ceilings after you shot someone to shreds?
( perhaps thats a little bit to difficult ?)

I can't believe no one thought of this before (or am I wrong?), but seeing bone fragments in the gore would be a nice little twist that I've actually never seen before.

You already see chunks of skull with headshots (although you get 3 large skull fragments, instead of a bunch of small ones. A bunch of small ones would be cooler). You also get half a ribcage for torso gibbing I believe.

Yeah, but thats not really much, considering you got a whole bunch a bones rattling 'round inside you, rather than 3 or 4 of 'em.

I'm talking about seeing shrapnel from shattered leg bones flying around everywhere, mixing with the guts and blood and just making a generally messier time.

Oh I can just imagine some of the comments parents would make to the those youngesters playing BW should they see that in game....

It would be nice to make those kinda things and tie it in to the parental controls in games. Consoles do that nicely and games on Vista can take advantage of it as well, so I guess we're going to start seeing those features in game engines soon....

I'd like it if the bones (with some meat on them) would get impaled on walls... though that's a bit unrealistic...

Sorry if I'm necroposting, but O the glory if it was possible to have individual gib meshes for every single friggin' character!! You blow up Malcolm to shreds then his head flies past you, out of the smoke, and down the stairs (If there is any in the stage.)

It is only a matter of time before my dream is realized... Oh the goriness...

This would require astronomical amounts of work and extra resources, imagine all the precaching needed on level load if you add many different characters.

Well, couldn't you just spawn a ragdoll with everything but the head scaled down to zero, like the opposite of a headless ragdoll? (assuming that's how ragdolls work) You can attach a bloody stump thing at the bottom to make it look ickier. This would look great for katana beheadings. It wouldn't need any sort of extra artwork or anything. Just code.

I think this already happens with limbs, though I'm not too sure as I don't see it happen very often. If it does, please make it happen more often (like making it less likely that the arms will gib, or whatever).

Somewhat related is this cool feature I saw in a Half-Life 2 mod. When you kill a guy with a gas can or gas tank explosion, his burning body flails around on the ground, somewhat realistically, although the effect could use some work. Can this be implemented in BW for the flamethrowers and FP7 grenades? You already have something similar with UT Lightning Gun headshots, so it shouldn't be incredibly hard to do, right?

I know putting blood textures on player models is a no-no, but would it be possible to have it for ragdolls? It looks really weird to see a guy gibbed from the waist-down but completely blood-free otherwise. Maybe splatter some blood effects to make him look messier?

Making a head/limb-only ragdoll sounds like a really, really simple way to create character-specific gibs. They wont' really be gibs, but they'd be close enough. Clean katana beheadings and more realistic Railgun torso gibbings (a shot to the chest should destroy someone's head and arms as well) would really make my day.

I don't know anything about how ragdolls and gibbing works in UT, and from the hour I spent fumbling through UC files that fact doesn't look like it's going to change anytime soon. Any devs want to comment on this?

I like this idea, its more likely anyone caught in a fire will just catch fire rather than turn into a skeleton with a smoke puff.

Once time I launched a flamethrower weilding bot into the sky, he tossed it away but as he was low in health he died from the flames anyway.

His burning body came down like a flaming comet, I thought this looked more dramatic than a smoky skeleton falling from the sky.

would it be possible to get the good old 1.7 blood back the nice big cartoony kinda blood stains...i still have the old mod archived....i think i even still have 1.3 version anyway id just like to get the old blood as an option just for shits and giggles
