You all have recently updated the Iron Sights by allowing them to only be used while walking/crouching. I personally think this is an excellent idea and adds to realism and tactical play. However the fact that it took me out of the sights when I tried to move around after updating was a bit "WTF?" in my opinion; so here's a thought: How about when in iron sights, it automatically forces the player into walk, similar to the system in COD (as well as other games such as Bioshock)?

Also, a Hold/Toggle option would be nice for the sights, LOL <_<

And as for the melee weapons: I'd like to see something like a very slight lunge implimented, again, similar to COD and Halo2/3 for say, the secondary melee for the katana/knife/wrist blades/shotguns. Just throwing out random thoughts, great work on the mod so far, I love the new scout rifle >D

Also I've messed around with some INI files and I've found you can set Walk and Iron Sights to the same key, however it doesn't work very well, it seems the player needs to walk for a few moments before the Iron Sights will take over. Anyone know if it's possible to bind something to Walking|Wait/Sleep/Delay 0.5|IronSights at all?

Well I've discovered why the whole walking while in iron sights thing would be glitchy. I've got middlemouse set to iron sights as well as walk, and it's really funky with snipers. It keeps zooming in and it's a bit of a hassle to deal with the fact that you have to hold down MiddleMouse to keep walking but at the same time it zooms you all the way in.

Why would you bind both functions to one key then? I set middlemouse to the Iron Sight function, with ALT to walk. It's a simple matter to hold the ALT key while moving to walk while sighted (unless you're missing you thumb or something).

Auto-walk was suggested during the Beta but was ultimately dropped. Devs said it was too buggy and too difficult to set up properly.

I'm using ALT and all those other keys for other things though. Walk used to be like, one of my least-used features until now.

The walk/iron sight bind is okay for me at this point though, whenever I start using snipers I just crouch instead of walk, because it keeps it more stable anyway.

Prolly misinterpreted something in the "Future of BW!"-thread down yonder...

All I can say is... RS NEVER said anything about stopping development on BW, only finalizing it. It means they're working to make BW perfect and bug-free so that would need patches anymore in the future.

And while that's in progress, we, as a community, can help by making suggestions, creating ideas, reporting bugs/glitches, and overall just giving our full support to the RS team.

Not to mention it wouldn't fix the sniper zoom problem. I don't think it's the walking that's the problem (I could be wrong) as much as it is some of the weapon's iron sights involve zooms that are going to zoom while you hold the iron sights in. That is, however, assuming it's in "hold to use" mode...

I like the idea of forcing walking while using sights. I like the system in GRAW. You can set a key to toggle the sights, which forces you to walk with the sights up. it's a little slower than walking, but drastically increases your control. Tap the key again to put down the sights and walk/run. You can also set it to keep the sights on for as long as you hold the button, instead of toggling it.

For now, I found something that kinda works. I set my Mouse5 to use sights and walk at the same time. This works if I stop moving, hold down the Mouse5, then I can continue walking along with the sights up.

Why would you hold the iron sights key then? Walking would simply turn on while sights are up, and come back off when you stop using the sights (either by tapping the sights key, jumping, or sprinting).

That depends on whether or not you have Walk bound to the same key as iron sights... Holding the iron sights/walk bind causes me to walk and have iron sights in one key. I doubt there is a "toggle walking" however, so I just use the standard "hold to walk" command.

I have to hold the iron sights/walk key because that key also controls the walking, which I need to be able to use the iron sights. So when I release the key the iron sights disables due to the fact that I start running, unless, say, I were standing still or crouching. Crouching works pretty well, though, I must admit.

That's what I use. It's glitchy when using a sniper rifle, ain't it? ;p

How on earth do you not have room for a separate walk key?

Here's my keybind (lefty) list:


Fire: Leftmouse
Altfire: Rightmouse
Next/prev weapon: Mousewheel
Movement: WASD
Jump: CTRL
Crouch: Shift
Walk: ALT
Use: E
Voice menu: V
Change weapon mode(semi, auto, burst): G
Weapon special option: Mouse4
Weapon special option 2: C (though I don't think any guns really have a use for this)
Reload: R
Sprint: Tab
Iron sights: Middlemouse
Dualselect: Z
Loadout: L, because I don't really need it close to my fingers as I'm not using during a fight.
Cock weapon: not bound, mostly useless


And I have F bound for VoIP which I never use, and X for mapvoting which I never use. How do you not have room?

Still better than having to activate walk mode manually every time you aim provided that walk mode can't be activated automatically according to the devs, at least it proved glitchy as far as I understand...

I dont like the idea of restricting walking nor use of iron sights, would better just make sights bounce all around, like would happen if you try in real life.
iron sights + walk = steady for aiming
iron sights + run = bounces all around, doesnt help much for aiming

just saves you the hassle of having to switch all time, or try to evade an attack and notice game annoyingly is sticking you in the way of that incoming g5 rocket.

If where to choose of the two dont like, would be better just goes away but doesnt restrict movement, is still much better than getting movement slowed down on a critical time.

Also would extend that to jumping, you jump while in sights, it bounces up and down too accordingly being of no use for aiming until steadies again.


PS: Sorry for bringing one month old thread back, but have been sort of away from the forum for a while

What I ask is this: why not just crouch and aim? Not only do you get a 'walk' speed and keep ironsights, you also are even more steady while crouched anyways. Double the rewards!

You move slowly when crouched. Walking sets you to 0.5 speed, while crouch is 0.3.

And if you try to pull the sights up to your eyes while running, you would probably end up flat on your face with a black eye, or something.

Heh... I don't think you really wanna move that fast anyways when ironsighred. I dunno, but doing crouched is my way to go for ironsights.
