You know you've got the sounds of bullets whizzing by and stuff, is it at all possible to add the "ringing in the ears" thing when an explosive goes off too close to you?
The range and amplitude of the effect would be the same as the motion-blur option, so it would vary depending on how close/far you are.
It'd just be a really snazzy feature =p

I actually thought that this was really annoying in Half-Life 2, but of course it's going to be optional if/when it gets in...

You must suck at HL2 then, you only hear this sound when an explosion damages you.

And I would love this effect too.

It happens more often than it should, with grenades being affected by explosions and bouncing all over the place. One particularly funny occurrence of this was in the Route Kanal chapter. I climb up a ladder and peek over to see what's going on there, and they open up a cart full of explosive barrels to blow me up with. I fire on them instantly, blowing up one near the back, and sending a couple flying and on fire. One particular barrel quickly rolls a winding path straight towards me, hitting the top of the ladder and stopping right in front of my face. I had about a third of a second to reflect on my situation before it exploded.

I was deafened, of course, but I had a lot more to worry about than just my ears after that. My brother and I laughed for a good 5 minutes afterwards.

It happens more often in Rainbow Six: Vegas but going deaf is a nice rest on the ears, my normal load-out includes a very big, very loud chain gun, you can avoid going blind from a flash bang but you can’t look away from sound.

If the marching band taught me anything, it's that we're all winners in life. Oh, how cheesy that still sounds.
