i was thinking since BW is gonna have vehicles shouldn't the UT2k4 turrets be transformed into Ballistic Weapons turrets? My 3 ideas are #1: a turret that shoots out skirth energy rifle projectiles and it looks sorta like the skirth rifle. #2: a turret that shoots out machinegun fire, i'm thinking the 50.cal would be good (rememeber these things won't get recoil!) #3: a turret that fires G5 RPG rockets! |

That would be pretty neat for AS and ONS! |

Turrets like the machine gun (primary fire) homing missle (alternate fire) ones in Timesplitters 2 would be cool. They have huge clips coming out from the top of the bases of the barrels, and just look plain cool overall. |

Seconded. I was about to post on the same topic before I saw this thread. The stock UT Energy Turrets we've had forever suck, but there have been very few turret mods. Please stay away from beam weapons on the turret, that's the least I ask. There are a few ways this could be approached - I'm a fan of how UT40k has automated turrets that cannot be entered, and how the defunct C&C mod had multiple turret types that would swap every time they respawned. From what I've seen, to avoid clipping errors with surrounding terrain, its best to keep the turret model fairly small with a flat base. Some turret design suggestions to throw out there: A mini-pillbox -concrete or sandbags- with a tripod mounted machine gun. An open AA platform with a seat, with quad mounted machine guns. A wheeled anti-tank/flak gun or recoiless rifle cannon, similar in design to the German 88's of WW2. A vulcan chaingun pod with a side mounted G5 launcher. A stand mounted automated sentry gun (might make a good deployable!) A SAM launcher missle-box site. A skrith turret - thingy that sprays-and-prays inaccurately with energy bolts. A mortar pit station that can switch modes from bombardment to a horizontal light cannon. |

A stationary Minigun that you can manually place anywhere, could work very much like a turret, and that one is planned for the next release as far as I know.

I think Vulcans are in StarTrek, but I could be wrong. |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M61_Vulcan It says something about "Project Vulcan", I bet that's where the name came from. |

Guess if it has crappy killing abilities it shouldn't be in BW. |

Chaingun is the most powerful rapid fire weapon that exists, it spins multiple barrels while firing. Basicly the same as a minigun. |

well a disadvantage of the 20mm was the bullets killing effecincy was low |

That is one bullet, imagine getting hit by dozens of bullets per second. No one can survive anything like that without being heavily protected... |

Okay. . random rant time. A minigun is an evolution of the gattling gun. The whole point of a gattling gun was to provide an automatic weapon that would not overheat, since each barrel only has to fire a fraction of the rounds fired by the gun. A minigun is driven by a motor, rotating the barrels at very high speeds, creating a weapon that can fire a several thousand rounds per minute. A chaingun is any kind of single-barreled automatic weapon that fires not by using recoil from the fired rounds or gas from the exploding gunpowder to load the next round, but uses a motor to chamber the rounds at a higher rate than would be possible using the methids mentioned above. Chainguns cannot fire at anywhere near the rate of a minigun, but are a lot cheaper to produce, and are a lot more accurate. /rant |

My mistake was misremembering that 'vulcan' in general, refers to any varient weapon system that uses the vulcan gatling gun. I was specifically thinking of the Phalanx CIWS implementation of the vulcan - its a primarily AA / anti-missile system paired with a radar dome, most commonly seen on US naval vessels - basically it shards enemy missiles and aircraft out of the sky with a hail of 20mm rounds. CIWS stands for Close-In-Weapons-System, meaning its the last line of defense for when missiles and aircraft get really close to the ship. At such ranges, the poor ballistic characteristics of 20mm isn't as important as the ability to saturate the air with bullets in the target zone. Varients of the Phalanx exist for land and ship-to-ship combat. I was basically suggesting a varient of the Phalanx minigun turret with a G5 pod bolted on. It would mainly be an anti-personel and anti-air turret - and perhaps it throws out enough bullets to somewhat easily pop any G5 rockets it sees coming? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phalanx_CIWS The anti-tank/flak weapon I am referring to is the German 88mm gun. It also comes in many models, the most common of which being a carriage that deploys into a stationary turret, a turret mounted on a 4 wheeled buggy, a tank, and an artillery field piece. It started life primarily as a AA flak weapon, until the Germans figured out it had good penetration against tanks and started using it for both roles. I was primarily suggesting a turret based off the stationary or artillery carriage designs of the 88. Perhaps it would fire flak shells that proximity detonate at distance in the air, that also serve as anti-tank rounds in a direct fire mode. Finally, perhaps if the turret operator wants to be cute, he can play with spamming the rounds at a high angle to use the parabolic ark of the shell for indirect artillery. I'd rather see a mortar pit for indirect bombardment though. This page has pictures of the fixed deployment and the artillery field piece: http://www.lonesentry.com/new88mm/index.html And wikipedia has a picture of the turret mounted on the 4 wheeled platform: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/88_mm_gun |

well you could make the m353 and its cousin into turrets by adding a speicial to them which makes the players model go prone and uses the machine guns stand for balance |

Yes, we want turrets... As long as they are not like the horrible purple green floaty beams and fat floating energy things in UT2K4. those suck... |

yeah the UT2k4 turrets sucked a ton. then some one made those small deployable turrets which were a bit better but those still sucked. hope BW's turrets (whichever they are) are good, wait why am i asking this, i know their gonna be good. |

The small deployable turrets were great actually, different weapons you can attach to them. You could add a molecular shield, etc. |
