What if when you narrowly miss being killed by a grenade, G5 or a M50 grenade (namely it hits pretty close and hurts you but doesn't kill you) than the screen goes blurry and sound is distorted a bit for a couple of seconds until you re-gain your compourse, you can still move and shoot but its just alot (way harder) to aim wcause your swaying a bit and your vision is blurred. oh and FYI UT2004 does infact have motion blurring in it but its just disabled by default cause it was "possibly" laggy! Check out Saving Private Ryan to see this in action! and of course it would be optional. |

I also wish close hits could knock you down even if it dosen't killya and maybe have to program a key to hit so you stand back up |

Motion blur is engine-related, I don't think it is present in the DX8.1 API which the UT2.5 engine uses, but I could be wrong. |

Motion blur IS supported by UE2.5, and better than some newer engines, such as Source, even, if you put a lot of work into it. |

yep its supported but Epic just disabled it by deafult for no reason! Notlem: i think that would make the gama alot less fun cause then everyone will be on the ground being slaughtered! |

That is not true, Source and Doom 3 engines make full use of DX9.0c renderer while UE2.5 has been stuck with DX8.1. So motion blur has better AA support in the newer engines just to name an example, since AA doesn't add extra blur to edges when motion blur is generated. |

Bjossi, he said "if you put alot of work into it" than it could be better than source which i totally agree with. |

It could, but not UE2.5, not by a long shot. Currently I think motion blur looks the best on the Doom 3 engine, with 4xAA it looks extremely good, it does look nice on the Vengeance engine as well.

whatever lets let the RS devs decide. They'll know if they could make it or not. |

If you want the game to have at least 50% lower framerate, then sure.
I would however not get any FPS hit.

yeah well still, RS has done amazing things in he past and present, so i'm guessing that if in the furture they add it they'll make it not lag regauler PC systems! |

First, The famous Red Orchestra mod, in it's retail version, uses 9.0c. I think that proves that UE2.5 IS capable of using current DirextX versions, IF it is modified to do so. Whether that requires working with Epic or not, I don't know, but I know that it's possible to pull off. Second, Vengeance = UE2.5 with minor modifications |

Exactly my point, RO won the MSUC so they got a license to use the UE2.5 engine. Any engine can support anything when it is updated/modified, it seems that Epic don't care about updating it for UT2004.

You could beg to tripwire studios to give you the upgraded version. I'm half-sure it's be legal, and they're helpful people. Might even give you the motion-blur code as well.
and of course Epic isnt interested in suporting Ut2004 anymore. They're not gonna get any more money out of it if they do, so why would they? Epic's better than most, but they're still run by a bunch of corporate executives. |

I'd rather just try to use what we have with UE2.5, motion blur is there, but isn't really supported by the word's meaning. |

Man this thread is getting no where. Fact; UT2004's Engine CAN support motion blurr effects, but the guys who made the engine disabled it by default cause it produced small amounts of lag, or so Epic says. Now time to wait till ShadowBlade posts... *Waiting* |

hey.. i'm here now
but yeah.. this sounds cool.. we'll have to see what we can do.. if the engine supports, or if we can code it seperatly.. :8 |

Would be nice... Well try see if motion blur is possible... Maybe other effects like wirling screen, walking wierd, sound screwy, etc... |

Yeah, or maybe that high pitch whining (spelling!!) in your ears (like source), that slowly fades out an normal returns....that alone seems very effective, cause you loose concentration on what's goin on around you. |

Sweet a triple RS devs most, i must be lucky. Yeah i like your idea DC except the werid walking really motion blurring would only really affect your sense of sight and sound, you might walk slower though. |

I bet James and his Mac ain't gonna like it if motion blur gets into the mod, with it's temporary 8xAA and multiplying every polygon on screen.
By the way, I love the idea of deaf effects when you get badly hit by an explosive or other things. I did give that idea when firing the Magnum, remember guys?

yeah but it'd be stupid if you go deaf when firing the magnam, than no-one would want to use it. |

I was talking about a barely audible buzzing sound you can hear for a few seconds after each shot, you wouldn't go deaf. I just explained it an funny way. |

hey.. we found the blurring thing!! and it works nicely.. we had a drop in FPS about 2-3 fps :8 but now we can do interesting things with it.. |

Yes, UT seems to have motion blur. We could try implement it for getting blown up or damaged in general. It would definitely be optional, cause of the wierd (and slow) things that could happen with different hardware... |

Whirling screen... you mean something like those UT99 1st person death fx, with the camera moving all over the place etc.? That would be way cool! Deaths were much more brutal in UT99, would be nice to port some of that rawness to pussified 2K4. |

Nice! Here is a small idea. Tiny blurring: Light hit with a bullet from a machinegun Medium blurring: Being shot by a shotgun and hit by quite a few of the pellets Big blurring: Getting hit by the Magnum and other heavy caliber weapons like the Railgun and Sniper Insane blurring: Getting hit by the G5 or blown up by a grenade What about those? And maybe add some hearing distortions with the higher ranks of blurriness to add to the realism.
