As we saw in Captain Xavious's Ballistic Kustom. Why Not be able to color our own guns?

It won't do anything much, just make it look more Awesome.

Yes James.

I wish there was an option to use different textures on a gun without having to go into code. Would definitely make things nice and simple.

can't you make the hue of the texture change to your personal settings?

That way you can give your stuff any colour, changing hue, brightness and contrast and stuff.

You can already do it with the corsairs :P

The crosshairs aren't 3D objects that have a skin, if thats what your talking about.

But the textured for the guns are 2D.

That is more or less what I did with my textures, only I had to take it out of UEd and use a third party program to recolourize it.

yeah thats the thing that makes this impossible sadly enough, to colorize it in extreme depths.

It is possible though to choose from a variaty of colours. Although this would mean some work for the ones making this mod.

I imagine you'd need to use multiple textures on the weapons to get it to only colorize the appropriate parts.

That is true. The game would need some way to recognize what part to change and what part not to. This can't be easily done without multi-textures.

I'd say the best thing to do would be to make some sort of ini or int file or whatnot, and it has a list for each weapon, that will at default list the default textures, and you can simply add more lines to expand the list of possible textures available for the gun.

In game, you are given a drop down list for each texture on each weapon. The drop down list displays the textures you defined in the int file. This would be how you select the textures to use, preferably on a user defined level, so that bots can have different colours and stuff too.

Random skins would be a good option too.

Simply changing colours wouldn't really be enough for me. To be able to use skins that look like more beat-up weapons, or more pristine weapons, would be cool too.

This idea should also carried over to the hands too.

I'd love a hand skin selector especially.

Just an idea, could you make several versions of the gun, each a different color? then do it as a replace system eg a drop down box (for users) which has
>normal (default)
>red
>blue
>green
>gold
etc

Raziel

P.S as previously said I am not a modder so I do not know how hard this would be...

Hell no. Unless someone knows a way through code, increasing the size of the mod by dozens of MBs just for many color versions of each and every weapon skin is not a good idea. I would see the matter differently if we were talking about reskins, though. (recolor = a color overlay applied to a skin; reskin = a new skin for the same weapon made from scratch)

Well its easy enough to recoulour the gun through image manipulation programs, making a new skin if you want it. You don't need an overlay, that wouldn't even look very good anyways.

Just being able to choose new skins would give you all you want. RS guys wouldn't have to make new colours for the guns, anyone could do it within 5 five minutes and have ready to use, assuming you just simply want new colours.

Changing the color of a skin by hand falls under the reskin category I'd say, since the whole process isn't automatic like an overlay would be.

It would look miles better doing it by hand, that is true. Humans know coolness better than software. 8)

By hand? What are you taling about? Just hit the Hue/Balance button and drag a slider to scale the colour.

That practically has the same effect as a colored overlay would. Darker colors get less affected by the colored overlay, while brighter colors change more. In other words, the skin has it's base look while changing in color.

And I don't see why anyone would want this sort of thing anyway. Like UT2004 isn't arcady enough already.

The original Half Life had a color system sorta like what you're suggesting.

By simply moving a slider left and right, the player could retexture the multiplayer models to suit his/her needs.

I want to see a variety of textures for the guns. For example, if you are fighting in desert conditions, you'd likely have an M50 with a desert camo finish to it, as an example.

And then you got those weird ones that seem to think gold plating their weapon is cool, and you could have the person whose gun was beat up badly. there's all sorts of variations besides different colours that I'd like to see.

Have any of you actually tried to go in and change the texture around to look like camo before? it's like 4000 gradients and getting completely screwed over when that DOESN'T work (because you ran out of edit undos)! >_>

You can change the color of the BTR80v2 vehicle.

http://files.filefront.com/BTR_80_v2_Fi ... einfo.html
You need: http://files.filefront.com/watercraft_T ... einfo.html

It might be possible to use the same coding from this mutator for the weapons.
