My friend had the idea to make a first person viewable body such as the one found in Mirror's Edge, but for for UT2004. That said, he is not sure if it will be possible, and wants to know if a) it is a good idea and b) if anyone wants to carry it on in the unlikely event of his death and/or giving up, which is much more likely considering he was one of the first to leave The Skrith mod. Comments? Rants? Suggestions? Requests? D49s? |

I don't know if this is really possible in UT2004 without insane amounts of work. I wish your friend luck. |

Depends what we could obtain I think if it's to have body awareness we have the same quality as 3rd person views of the weapons. and this needs to make the aiming system and some animations in the 3rd person view ... now if it's to have a specific body extension of the BW hands and make a body this needs to coordinate the body with the external view or the contrary or we can make something in between but we have a strong chance to obtain a low quality if there isn't some large amount of work, not too pretty ... UT 2004 uses a floating gun system and uses two different views between 1st and 3rd person view ... |

I understand that guns in UT2k4 are just blocks floating in front of the player, but it seems to be possible to implement some kind of pivot system whereby the gun would move less far up and down than the camera, allowing it to remain looking like the arms are attached to the body further up and not touching the legs. The legs themselves would be standard, much like the BW hands. The first person weapon would be the same model, however if the legs are not correctly placed or sized, it will look crap. Textures are, apparently, not a problem. There may also be a way to have a visible shadow in first person; however I am assured this is extremely buggy. |

Ah you have made something like my second supposition then. an extension to the BW hands |

sorry, I have not really been paying attention to this thread but... Have any of you got Gmod? then have any of you gone onto Garrysmod.org and looked up First Person Legs? Well, (surprisingly) it gives you legs which you can see in first person (great!) this works by setting a half bot (literally half a bot (the bottom half)) to follow you (noclip with the player) this bot mimics the players movements so appears that it is the players legs. This works great... until you go to 3rd person... then you see you character bing followed by a pair of legs... Raziel P.S not that helpful, but interesting none the less |

Uhhh...what's 'Gmod'? And why do I get the feeling I'm going to be shot for saying that? |

To get it you need a Source engine game, like Half-Life 2 or Counter Strike: Source. Other than that it's standalone. Gmod's about 10 bucks, but well worth it. |

I'd suggest HL2 with CSS, mainly for the SMod Tactical version of HL2. But really, I tried GMod for a little while, but I wasn't exactly sure if I liked it much. Good fun and all, but I just wasn't entirely sure about it. Of course this was back when it was a free mod... |

I looked it up. I think it's a bit pointless trying to download anything off Steam at 56kbps. And I don't know if it's compatible with the UK versions of Steam products - they're supposed to work in any country, but I've had some nasty history with Steam. Although that was probably my fault with my stupidly slow, auto terminating Internet connection. Gah, I'm rambling. Sounds pretty cool; I love the idea of just doing what you want, when you want. It's a pity I can't go anywhere near Steam. How did we get onto this from the original topic? |

Originally from a post about a GMod mod that did a false way of first person legs. You just might be able to get somewhere with that. |

Liking the idea. Maybe when you die, make the bots legs disappear, so you dont have 4 legs floating around. |

Yeh, though this does seem to be difficult. |
