This Idea I got but I think it exists elsewhere in games, the automatic melee is a feature that use an existing feature from BW it's the weapon collision, when we reach a certain distance from an obstacle our weapon begins to change its position, and when it happen we are unable to shot where we aim.
The idea is instead of shooting when we are too close to an obstacle, we use our gun as melee weapon until the obstacle isn't too close from us.
I think the feature wouldn't happen in BW since it might requires a lot of animations and maybe redone weapons :/
that automatic melee mode doesn't use the integrated melee weapons like bayonets, or the normal melee attacks from those ranged weapons

It's pretty hard to melee a wall away from you...maybe set it so it only works if it's a player.

I think I'd prefer to have a melée button that I press for melée attacks. Having it all in automatic would change how I play so much it wouldn't be worth it. Then again, different perspectives.

I think he means when anything is close. Like bots that feel the need to be in your face.... That seems to happen with BW a lot... so why not just hit them without switching weapons?

The automatic melee just works with "the weapon shifting option" in BW
When you are close to someone the weapons can't fire where we aim; so the feature allow us to attack in a such circumstances, but with a melee attack instead of a missed shot, this doesn't replace the dedicated melee attacks from weapons it justs changes the fire a projectile attack into a melee attack when we are at point blank range from a foe with a ranged weapon that doesn't have a melee attack or have, but use the primary fire as a melee attack when the weapons "shifts"

That means if I use the M50 for example and a foe comes to me with a melee weapon, I can't shoot him with the weapon shifting in melee since the weapon isn't oriented anymore into the crosshair and all my shots are made in a side and using the grenade launcher at point blank range is a suicide
All the weapons that have a dedicated melee attack, their normal melee attacks aren't linked with the feature this allow us to use for example an MRS 138 with two different melee attacks the taser witch is the secondary fire (this one works normally) or is you are at point blank range an other attack.

I know the fact I can disable the weapon shifting feature to attack somebody at melee range with a long gun, but the goal is to be able to play with that feature enabled and be able to "return fire" with ANY weapon even if it doesn't have any melee weapon (like bayonets, blades, tazers) / attack (with buttstocks, barrel melee) that is used in some BW guns

The melee attack can be made with the weapon or a foot attack for example (this one doesn't require any additional weapon animations)
the melee attack that uses the primary fire when we are at close range only works if the weapon is shifted and the attack is fast and not charged like the classic melee attacks with some weapons.

It's hard to me to explain everything correctly, but this feature just allow us to use ranged fire modes with the BW weapon collision feature "called weapon shifting" to make melee attacks in situations when the ranged attacks couldn't be made since our weapon is deviated to a side and all our shots would be missed to the side where the weapon is oriented

So it would just hijack the Gun Shift feature?

In a certain sense yes. the attack stays under your control and the normal melee attacks are unchanged
that's the idea

That makes sense. I usually play with Long Gun Shift on, but then, I'm a sniper so I don't get that close too often.

its a really good idea to be honest but i think it takes the potent away from he game because it love to melee someone before they melee me so an automatic melee will have to be an option or an mutator
