DM-BE-Ruins

DM-BE-Ruins: Probably the best map of the new ones. Lots of places to hide and ambush each other. I really like the tree ladders.

DM-BE-Infestation: A little too cramped and I keep getting caught on pieces of terrain/static meshes sticking up out of the floor.

DM-BE-DeadlyShores: A fun map to play 1 vs.1. Plenty of pickups and the theme was nicely done. Getting up on the middle tower was interesting, but once you get there it gives you a big advantage.

DM-BE-Clearing: A fun little map to play.

The older DM maps were nicely done as well.

Okay, Impressions:

Maps:

Love them all equally. I particularly like the design and concept behind Infestation. I concur that it can be hard to get around with all the static meshes poking out everywhere but it makes for a great invasion map.

Guns:

The Bort is tons of fun. Have to agree the flares should be a seperate ammo type. You see yourself reload a flare into the gun after selecting them but you still lose grenades when you fire the flare. Doesn't make too much sense

The flashing effect the XMk5 darts is kinda annoying, but the gun itself is pretty powerful and great to use.

Kinda hoped the MD24 would be something different or at least a Desert Eagle type weapon. Its just another M806 really :/

M46 grenades are awesome!

Reptile...All I can say is NEW SKRITH WEAPON YEEEESSS!! Fills in the gap left behind by the bio rifle nicely

Vehicles:

Was still hoping to see some more innovation on the vehicles (I believe I started a thread on that subject years ago), but I guess it was a low priority. Still, I like the new tank, finally a ballistic tank that can compensate for the Thors lack of range. The helicopter is kickass. I could win an entire round with that thing

Bugs:

Most problems are probably related to me using BW2.1 weapons, like weapons not contributing to evolution stats, not dual wielding and of course the funky stretched weapon icons. I suppose that will be taken care of when someone updates the community weapon packs

Is it me or is player movement slower? Hope that's a glitch because I don't like moving slowly.

The MD24 does indeed obscure the M806, but the melée aspect isn't strong enough to warrant dramatically buffing the M806. I compensated by increasing the effective range of the M806 but I've since dropped it from my config.

The BORT is surprisingly good, and the ammo complaints are just a realism needle, i.e. Unimportant.

I nerfed the XMk5 dart within 30 minutes of trying it. It makes the AM67 look weak.

The poison dart's got nothing on the XM84 and VSK-42, though. Those two create the blur-pocalypse.

Also, the M806 is not too heavily outclassed by the MD24. It's functionally similar to the MK23 which deals more damage at the expense of firerate and visual recoil/accuracy.

My impressions:

The MD24 has a ridiculous amount of visual recoil. It reminds me of the Desert Eagle. Otherwise, it's nice variety, although without any special functions that make it unique.

The BORT is awesome. I always have trouble deciding which I should use- make a cloud of gore and smoke, or set people on fire? It's a difficult decision!

The A500 bothers me a little bit because it looks so different from the rest of the Skrith weapons. It lacks the blue color scheme that I always associated with them. Cool weapon though.

The M46 is quite awesome. The proxy grenades are fun!

The X4 seems cool, but not much different from the X3. It's got a nice paint job, but lacks the cool features like throwing it.

The Xmk5 is neat. I like having more SMGs, and the poison dart is a cool idea (except I can't hit anything with it.)

Combined, however, this makes an excellent addon to the greatest mod for an FPS ever, not to mention the MUCH needed bugfixes and play options.

Well I never let the link to runestorm laspes, and what a nice bonus for not doing so. The new 2.5 rocks hard.
I only wish for one tweak, and that would be to add a buttom in the configure to make the mines prox mine freindly to the player /team that sets em. I know there was a mine freindly mut at one time bt it seem to not work with the 2.5 udate alas. Still way kick butt and will keep ut 2004 on my hard drive forever. Thank you dev team.

It was asked for in beta but declined because mines then become a place-and-forget weapon with a reward-to-effort ratio of something like 1500:1. Self damage is the only negative aspect of the mines in the first place.

Your assumptions are correct. Be aware that Unreal classes will NOT write data to config files unless at least one member variable of that class changes. Also ensure the maps in question are using standard weapons in lockers.

Try doing admin set Mut_BallisticSwap bLockersChange True when logged in. If the mutator is working properly this should write its config to BallisticV25.ini when the level changes.

Edit: DO NOT use the swap mutator if you're already using a Ballistic gametype. You're using Ballistic TDM instead of xGame.xTeamGame.

I only got to play around with 2.5 for about 20 minutes (after about 40 minutes of manual uninstallation of the previous version plus bonus packs I had installed ), but I'll say this: it's a definite improvement over the last version. It feels like a whole new game (apart from UT2004 as well as BW 2.1). It's the perfect marriage of (what I consider to be) the fun parts of more "realistic" shooters and fast-paced, in-your-face arena/arcade deathmatch that I grew up on since the days of Doom.

The best way I can describe this mod, if I had to do it briefly, is Modern Warfare 2 if it was in a more futuristic/sci-fi arena setting and minus the headaches of IWnet. All it's missing are perks, kill streaks, and air support. Even without those, BW 2.5 is a blast to play. However, it's even unfair to compare this mod to Modern Warfare 2. To me, this outshines most commercial games on the market. I can tell that a lot of hard work, time, and attention was put into this, something I believe major publishers and developers could learn from and emulate.

With many of the bonus packs being updated for the 2.5 code, I'm certainly looking forward to further updates and additions. Again, this is the most fun I've had with UT2004 in a good while. 2.5 has gone beyond and above my expectations. Great job guys. (:

Glad you like my maps, Infestation was not designed too well on the gameplay front though, both that and the Ruins were designed to look great, but the Ruins was also made to work best for sneaking around..

Clearing was the second 2K4 map I made, and Forest my first, you can clearly tell...

Ruins is a lot of fun for sneaking around.

Yes, Forest was probably the least good out of the bunch.

I just discovered an awesome "feature" on the M46 grenades.

Apparently, as well as storing a warhead they also contain an inflatable M46!

Just press E on an M46 grenade stuck in the ground (has to be a teammates nade) and viola; you are instantly armed with the innovative Jackal-In-A-Can, ready to fire, complete with fresh rounds and 2 more grenades!

This makes the M46 an excellent tool for assisting troops deep within enemy lines and in dire need of an additional weapons; just load your M46 grenade launcher and fire a spare Jackal to them from across the trenches!

I know that should probably be filed as a bug report but I thought the concept of grenade couriered weapons was too awesome

Bugger, it's because of the code being from the BX5, for which it is logical to give the player the weapon.

The feature that forces you to walk when you are using sights is buggy. For example, when i play Ballistic Conflict and i use ironsight to kill the last foe, the next round i will be extremly slow (sometimes even sprinting produces more slowdown) till i activate and deactive the sight, after wich everything is fine.

when i use the rocket launcher in laser guided mode, sometimes after the first shot it loads the second rocket turning the weapon away, so tha laser will point into mostly an unwanted direction. I don't know when that happens - maybe i held down primary fire long after the shot?. If you use Dark star melee under water, it keeps doing the pull effect like if i hit something (im not sure if that is intentional). Also, i didn't test it with this version, but for example, if you start a silencer mounting animation and you push reload immidiatly [you must met the requirements for reloading tough] (or any time during the silencer animation), it breaks the silencer animation reloads and silencer will be on (somtimes it won't look like its on, but after shooting it appears, or disappears, if you unmount it similarly). If i recall it correctly, the same thing applies to engaging stocks (so i guess its generally with anything Special).

If you plan to fix it, i have a small feature request. Now if you choose flamethrower it turns the valve all the time, not just the first time. Could you change it so, it would turn the valve only once when it is a fresh pickup.
