Post subject:  small update request and a problem

Hey guys, I love Ballistic, I love the way I can customie it the way I want. It's amazing. And I generally stay away from "realistic weapon" mods.

I'm hoping someone might be able to kick out a really small update that adds a couple tiny things. Since I have no idea how to do it myself, I'll have to wait I guess. But I am hoping someone would add an option to not make your weapon aim jolt when you get hit, and to not make the Bloody Hell mutator use the stamina system (it does seem to, I move very slowly when using it.)

Now, the problem: I can't use Ballistic on my LAN. My brother has to host, because for whatever reason, he can't connect to me (but I can to him.) So we put the Ballistic serverpackages in the UT2004.ini file, and he starts the game. I try to connect, and it just sits at the "connecting to server" screen and does nothing. We take it out of the serverpackages, and I connect instantly.

On the Epic forums, it was suggested something was missing. If that is the case, it's missing from the zip file then, because I installed UT2K4, installed all the mods I like etc. then thought "hey, why don't we play this together" and so I installed UT2K4 on my brother's computer to get the registry entries, then deleted the folder (which keeps the registry entries as it wasn't being uninstalled) and just replaced that folder with mine, so they're exactly the same, right down to the screenshots I've taken.

Thanks for anything anyone can do, about either thing here. :)

If the connection only goes one way I would advise trying to resolve that first and foremost before looking at making Ballistic work.

server.log and UT2004.log from both PCs after an attempt to play with Ballistic serverpackages on, and UT2004.ini + BallisticV25.ini from both PCs (separate folders please) will be required for me to look at this further.

On the subject of aim movement on player damage: To do this via a mutator will require replication, which is more convenient to do using the BallisticReplicationInfo class. To modify this class, you have to pretty much create your own version of Ballistic or faff around with a hell of a lot of subclasses - which will break the configuration GUI from the Mutator Options menu because that saves information for the superclasses and not the new subclasses. To do it via modification of the actual weapons requires a) an update to BW to make it configurable, which is unlikely to happen as 2.5 is meant to the last official update or b) you to subclass all the weapons and override the two functions which manage aim displacement when you take damage. a) is very unlikely and b) is something you're unlikely to find anyone to do for you, since as far as core gameplay goes very few people are interested in working with it.

On the subject of Bloody Hell: Bloody Hell implements the gore system, and to implement the gore system... it replaces the default pawn with the Ballistic Pawn. The Ballistic Pawn has a groundspeed of 350, against the standard groundspeed of 440, which is why you move so slowly when you have Bloody Hell on. It's quite a major oversight, but in the end Bloody Hell + standard UT2004 is a very unlikely setup considering what the mod is. The issue can be gotten around, by creating a subclass of the Ballistic Pawn that has normal UT2004 statistics and is used for Bloody Hell. Given that I moved the changes in my mod onto the source of Ballistic V2.5 and am now working with that, I'll likely sort that issue out in my own mod if I can.

I saw your post on Epic's forums, btw. Even if I could make the balance configurable, I wouldn't do so, because to put it bluntly the default balance is shite - so bad, in fact, that it spurred me to spend days of my time doing something about it. However, I may consider making a "Lite" version which has all of the changes except the balance, provided it means people will actually accept using the Lite version over the standard version in matches. Really, really hate aim jolt on hit, no config walk speed, massive scope sway and low ViewRecoilFactor when playing online.

What he said, its likely your connection, have you tried changing your firewall settings if thats on?, such as adding 2K4 to the exceptions list, if it isn't already... :)

Also, you usually need to add the server packages for the game to recognize BW properly, you may have connected with them excluded, but I'm not sure it would work properly.. :-\

No, I definitely do know that much. I may not be able to figure out the connection thing, but I know about serverpackages lines, and the game definitely does not connect when they're present in the INI file, and connects instantly when they're not.

I'll hopefully have the files Azarael said he needs soon.

Sorry just had to mention the firewall as a matter of insurance, not everyone knows... ;)

Yeah, when we tried connecting for the first time, Windows 7 popped up the firewall thing and asked if we want to let it through, we said yes. :p

Just bumping this, I have something relevant. Azarael, I didn't forget about you, I've got the files you wanted here. The only one I am missing is the server.log for my brother's PC (which weirdly, is the PC we're using as the server.) I had a file, but he doesn't, I have everything else included.

I also couldn't seem to attach the massive 46 kilobyte zip file here so I put it on Megaupload. lol. I didn't know what else to do.

Your host PC has an excessive number of serverpackages. Trim them down to the necessary ones and try again.

Excessive? That's nothing... :p

Any suggestions offhand on what may be possibly causing a problem? Something that tries modifying the pawn, perhaps? You'd know better than I would. :)

edit: Never mind, it works. I removed a bunch of the vehicles, since the Car Launcher doesn't work online, and removed some other weapon mods. I think between Ballistic, Chaos and U4E, we're pretty much set anyway. Thanks for your help :)

No problem. ^^ Only reason I asked you to trim the packages was so that we could exclude cross-package interference and other similar problems before testing further. Glad to hear you got it fixed.
