Turrets sounds fun, but what about the ion cannon with what would that be replaced ?

My suggestion is more or less a cannon like turret ( just the cannon of a tank mounted next to a seat or so ).
And what about anti aircraft guns as a turret?

Holy thread revival!

Continuing the thread revival, I like the idea of the turrets, having seen no good automatic turrets for ut2004 yet.

Turret types I see interesting:
- Big mg type: big in size, uses heavier ammo which does more damage, but not useful for hiding.
- Small mg type: smaller size, ammo is smaller caliber, lower rate of fire, and has less capacity, but can be hidden behind things to catch players on surprise.
- Heavy type: shoots rockets and/or grenades (either two separate different turrets or one type you can fill with either grenades of any type [allow mixing types] or rockets, but not both ammo at the same time) at a slow rate, bulky in size, lower accurancy.

For each one of those types, two variants, one with human ammo (bullets) and one of the skirth (shots energy bolts of different sizes for each type), which are somewhat equivalente in functionality, but different looks (and ammo supply if players where to resupply those with ammo)

So those turrets dont get too godly, give them a limit on how many rounds can shot before overheat shutdown and / or having players to resupply ammo of the turrets.

Any player can recover a turret, so placement to avoid someone stealing your turret by getting close enough would be also important.

Grenades also benefit of additional usefulness against turrets, so you can blow them from safe when someone places those on a covered place.

A player carrying a turret would have a backpack with the turret while its in inventory, making the player also unable to use any backpack weapon or carry more than one turret at once.
Edit: may be small type if small enough can be carried without backpack, or up to more than one in same backpack

In any case, using any or none of those ideas I wrote, definitively something I would like to see made.

Thats a pretty good idea but i was more or less thinking of replacing the existing turrets ( energy and the minigun turret ) instaed of creating more turrets .

Also i would let the turrets have unlimited ammo but a overheat limit instead of reloading the complete turret . Just make them shoot bursts of ammo instead of full auto .

As far as carriing turrets we already have the machineguns and the minigun. Those are according to me sufficiant enough.

Couldn't hurt to have a bigger calliber machinegun though.

As far as new turrets go the 3 mentioned by Mr.U a year ago will be perfect im my opinion.

A skrith energy turret would look cool and can be very deadly and I always wanted a rocket turret for people who purposely get up close to turrets where you cant hit them.

Dont be afraid to make turrets very powerful, they already have a huge weakness: immobility

But whats with all the hate towards the UT2 energy turret? Didnt you guys know how to use them back then?

Given some nice aiming skills, that thing could stop manta runners and raptors in their tracks. I get more kills with it than the shock rifle.

Well i do know how to use them but it seems a little bit wierd to have those energy turrets if you use the BW mod as far as i know the humans have droped the use of energy weapons against the skrith in the BW universe so to be a little bit in story it would seem obvious to replace the energy turrets

Hmm you are right, it does seem out of place in BW.

New turrets get my full approval.

g5 rpg rockets will skrew with my cpu even more now its probily almost gone becaues befor i use to get at least

40 to 60 frames on low settings now on the lowest i get 30 and below most of the time and ons realy steals my frames now but it didn't use to befor my prosesor started dying

and the ejecting brass from the machiengun turret will lag me so well..no brass from the turret lol

and btw why must teh guns have laggy reflective texturs i know it looks good but i want the guns to look used like chiped paint or some blood on the weps and the texturs you use to make them reflective you put texture over texture and that makes the filesize a nightmare

Cut everything on SUPER LOW and edit your Ballistic.ini and Turn off Eject Brass.

This mod isn't for the faint of processor. The rest of the population shouldn't have to suffer graphics cuts because your computer can't handle it.

It shouldn't be able to handle the game in the first place. He should feel extremely lucky.

So trunkmonkey, stop whining and upgrade, or simply stop whining if the latter is not an option.

Time to go back to discussing turrets.

Harsh... Take it easy on the guy, will you? He's still entitled to an opinion, though I'd have to say Sgt. Kelly would be right on the matter.

Also, to add to what Wup said, make sure you turn your fog distance to as low as possible, that really helps with onslaught maps.

Well, believe it or not, it gets old listening to whining about lag every third post he makes. And as you can see it ruined a perfectly good turret suggestion thread this time around. If he isn't gonna buy a new computer, then that is his problem, not ours.

That being said, let's go back on topic. Otherwise this thread will be put behind bars.

Turrets!! perfect to have BW turrets.

And even better... to make it chooseable what team gets what turrets, so one team gets skrith turrets, and another gets human turrets. This can be done to choose what kind of turret replaces the original turret, which you can adjust seperatly for each team.

This will be very interresting in AS, ONS and VCTF

Yes but what with onslaught ?
This would mean thatt the previous turret would be destroyed instead of deactivated, so the coding could give some troubles .
It would be funnier if you could chose wich node has wich type of turret this would be lesser hard to code.
Not that the RS team couldn't do it but it would be a fist time coding those turrets. So we could keep the stress on them somewhat low.
