I'm sure this has been suggested already, but it would be nice to have some kind of a powerful Skrith weapon, perhaps comparing to the RPG or the Railgun. What I had in mind was a continuous beam weapon. Like, you press the "fire" button and it fires out a steady beam, not unlike the second mode of that one gun... uhh... the one that fires green bolts? God, I have worse of a memory than a fish. Anyways, what do you folks think?

Yes, there's a few ideas precolating around here already, ranging from Skrith energy grenades, to some kind of heavy machinegun firing slightly explosive energy bolts and a sniper-rifle type weapon that fires an electrically charged harpoon.

Personally, I'm not real fond of straight-bean weapons in FPS games. They never seem to have a nice feel to them. Sure, they can be useful, but. . .The link gun you mentioned is ac slose as I see weapons getting to being a beam weapon that's actually fun to use, but I still use the pulses in almost every situation because they have so much more FEEL to them.

Alright, scrap the beam weapon then. The reason I suggested that is because a certain mod (Archon Weapons & Shields) got me having fun with them. Here's the whole thing, if anyone wants to read. For the occasional user seeking actual useful information, skip to the section after it.

Anyway, it all started when I saw the War of the Worlds. The kickass beam thingies that the tripods had, those owned. However, even though the beams themselves kicked ass, what I loved even more was the effect. How the people just kinda poofed into a could of dust after getting hit by it.
About a month later, I download the Archon Weapons and Archon Shields mod. I played it, looked like a typical UT2K4 mod at first. Re-used weapon meches with differently coloured skins, relatively annoying zoom modes, over/underpowered weapons, etc.
However, the REAL fun started when I got to the weapon titled "Thermal Projector". I think it was a re-textured lightning gun, but oh well, doesn't matter. Anyways, I threw the Archon Shields on there, turned the Arena mode on with that weapon... and was blown away. The sheer satisfaction of coming up to a person, cutting their blueish shield orb open by a continuous red beam, then watching them skeletize in a cloud of blood-coloured smoke is undescribable. That's why I thought of a beam weapon at first.

As for my suggestion, I agree with Mr.UglyPants on the idea for an energy based RPG. It could, as well as damage, knock the opponent's shields off by overloading them. Also, while I was typing my little story, an idea came to mind about a WOTW-like weapon. A semi-continuous (fires for about a second after being used) beam weapon, dealing brutal damage but taking a while to recharge. Any comments?

Hmm....Instead of Energy Based RPG, what about Energy Based Grenade Launcher? That way we'll have...a grenade launcher XD.

Skrith Grenade Launcher sounds good to me, a violent, blue plasma explosion when the grenade lands somewhere.

So little originality with energy weapons now, and for a good reason. What the hell CAN you do with energy weapons? Just shoot out blue bolts and the occasional instant-hit beam.

I vote for razor-sharp glowing disk-like hand thrown things. Pesudo-shiruken ftw.

Skrith shotgun... A shotgun seems more like a terran weapon! A shotgun is a bit crude for a Skrith..

No, no, no, blade, I'm not critisizing you - I'm just saying in general. Just look at all of the energy weapons in any games or shows: you've got the plasma gun which shoots bolts in Q3... Also the lightning gun in Q3, which is a LITTLE bit more original, because it fires a continuous beam. What else? UT has no beam weapons that fire outside of the parameters I've outlined. Shock rifle, link gun - both do exactly the same thing if you compare them. Ion cannon? Charged bolt.

One thing that COULD be done, though, is a rapid-fire beam weapon. I think that would be a bit spammy, but it could very much work.

Eh, energy weapons have far more possibilities than any other brand.
Change the frequency of a laser and you have a new color with new hazards like light radioactivity if going above 120 nm.

Plus you can use energy in combo with metal, like a railgun shooting a magnesium slug at the speed of light. And of course the black hole generator, nothing can beat that idea when it comes to originality.

well maybe the skirth after fighting the UTC decided it needed a close quarters gun capable of killing enemies at close range, so they bulit something that's sorta like a shotgun mixed with energy properties, maybe it fi bullets that hold skirth plasama energy which is what hits the person, cause the bullet casing would be thrown away while the skirth plsama would kill the enemy.

. . .the skrth seem like more the kind do develop a sub-gun id they need CQB weapons, rather than a shotgun.

What about an UTC energy shotgun then?

We already have two UTC shotguns. . .maybe some other kind of close-combat energy weapon, though, that isn't a shotgun? (or a flamethrower)

Man whenever i haer the words 'close-combat energy weapon' i always keep thinking of the Halo plasma swords.

I never could use those darned swords... I just stuck to two pistols and a sniper... hee hee
This forum does have a point, the only REAL reason I like the skrith weapons (and I'm ashamed of admitting this) is that they look cool in bullet time ^^
The skrith could do with some more weapons, I mean, I guess that humanity won the war, but with the ammount of weapons the skrith had, it's no wonder. The humans had a whole arsenel and the skrith had two weapons, granted one of them was an automatic pistol, but still.
I like the idea of a skrith sniper rifle, like the convenant one from halo, beam rifle lower damage, but no real need to reload too often. Head shots need to count though.

And maybe need more than one shot to do a headshot if that kind of rifle would have high rate of fire.

Well I wasn't thinking about it being a good rate of fire, I was thinking the same sort of cool down as the lightning gun... which I hate because it's so gay! I mean come on! it hardly ever hits coz of the stupid delay thing....

Well I'm out of idea's for skirth weapons though, I mean, they've all been said, if you think about it, there aren't that many classes of weapons in real life. Pistol, SMG, MG, Rifle, Snipers, rocket launchers...
How about a skirth mortar... I would say single shot rifle, but that would be more like Red Orchestra...
