Thats right, we're finally revealing the new RuneStorm project and its called Rooks Keep!

Its all about Chess and similar games with vicious animated pieces that hack each other apart in a gothic fantasy theme. Check out the info here.



This will be RuneStorm's first commercial game and it is built using the Unreal Development Kit.
There are a number of other features (you can see them on the info page), as well as a bunch under development that have not been revealed yet. More on those as they come together.

That map is fantastic.

I think this is a good idea for a first commercial project as well. I don't know many 3D battling chess simulators and you guys have a flair for animation, texturing, modelling and design. This kind of project plays to the current strengths of your team.

You will get castling. En Passant is another story...

I've known about this and the entire time I'm just imagining what all I could make for RK mods.

I love 3D chess games. Played LEGO chess when I was about 6 and it was my favourite game for ages. This looks to be much more fun (and brutal!), though, and everything a chess game should be. And it'll work great for you guys what with your excellent medieval-style art skills coming off the Crucible. Can't wait to see more.

Tho, I dunno about anyone else, but this sorta reminds me of "Wizard's Chess" from Harry Potter... Just, much more violent.

I played a lot when I was a kid, No video games back then.

It would be sweet if this could be released on GOG.com (I think they do accept new titles despite the premise of the website.). DRM free gaming ftw. Steam is ok too of course.

so basically if you kill a rook he gets beaten to death violently,
its not the chess i remember but sure as hell the chess im looking foward to.
you should add a version where the chess pieces have m60 machine guns and when a piece gets killed the other piece says arnold Schwarzenegger puns and lines

and call the gamemode Schwarzenegger's keep

I would ask something but I don't know if that's possible to add due to the complexity of the feature or game mode in question.

It's basically making each piece eating into an arena combat where we can control the piece with its attributes, but I think it's way too complex since it needs a combat system and even an AI able to use combat so consider this as a random idea because I think it require too much work ...
