Well, the thought of BW in UT3 is never really far from anyone's mind when they think about either, I'm sure.

When I think of UT3, I just can't wait to try out that Stinger.

I can't wait either. The only reason I play UT2K4 other than for BW is Onslaught, Invasion, and Jailbreak, because frankly, the weapons in standard 2004 all suck (except the shield gun)

I'm going to point out here that the weapons in UT2 are actually statistically MUCH stronger, faster, what have you, than their older counterparts, and the only reason they seem to "suck" is because of the botched physics and player sizing in the UT2 games (and the squeaky firing sounds, too, but that's another topic). In fact, every single weapon is stronger except for the Flak Cannon (which got a HUGE damage cut), but the Flak is still one of the top weapons. The Link Gun however, while nearly doubled in strength, got raped into oblivion by the slow-ass shots it fires (thankfully fixed in UT3).

In short, nobody seems to realize that the problem lies in the physics, which thank god are returning to their former glory in UT3. Just watch, the weapons can be exactly like UT2's and they'll be "better than UT2's by a mile."

I can't wait for the Necris vehicles! As far as mods are concerned, I'm expecting nothing. Hype is what kills the best ideas.

What does projectile speed & damage have to do with physics?

Nothing at all. I just don't like people saying that UT2's weapons suck compared to the older versions, because the weapons are just fine, but the way UT2 itself played makes them seem worse than they really are.

Most people agree that the borked player scale is what made UT2 suck, right? This means that almost all the maps have HUGE wide-open areas instead of UT's smaller rooms and tight corridors, where all of these weapons were designed to work. Now, if the UT2 weapons were ported directly into UT, they would actually be overpowered, because they got a substantial damage boost in the change from UT to UT2. The weapons are good, but the setting they are placed in doesn't allow them to work to their full potential.

No. it is the way the weapons look and sound. They look weird and sound crappy.

The shock rifle used to look like a rifle in UT99, I don't know where the hell it's current design came from.

I guess that's valid if you think that way, but I naturally tend to base my opinions on function rather than form (after all, the gun doesn't do anything, the bullets do). And years of Turok must have desensitized me to weird weapon designs, because I never thought any of Epic's guns looked weird. I can agree that they sound pretty weak, though.

All that aside, I'm really glad they're addressing the scaling issue in UT3. It'll make the weapons more useful again, and also make mapping a lot easier, too.

You can't dodge hitscan attacks, only avoid them.

If I were to venture a guess, I'd assume monkey is referring to the time required for you to realize that someone is under your crosshairs and pull the trigger. Fast movement can make that internal "brain lag" make a difference. Monkey, I'd suggest you set the acceleration threshold in settings under (input), which decreases your sensiticity when you zoom in by an adjustable factor. Also, don't bother trying to snipe people if their trajectory is normal to your sniper trajectory. Oh, and if they know you're there trying to snipe, then you better not always be able to hit them, which is what makes it the sniper rifle balanced, as opposed to the Halo pistol, for example.
