Why can't you just smash all weapons against the enemy? So all weapons can function as a melee weapon. Just hit a button and you break someones skull with the back of your M50. I would love to have this, especially with the G5, SMASH, flat body.
This way you can just punch those annoying shotgunners away with any weapon that is in your hands.

This has been suggest before by moi. Known as the Melee Attack key that performs melee attack with most (or all) guns.

Just like in Halo hmm? Its a convenient feature; no need to whip out another weapon for hand-to-hand humiliation. More so when it extends to game objectives: stabbing someone with the flag pole is hilarious.

I like how it is though: only some weapons are capable of this feature and only because they were designed that way. And your knife is always better than a blunt object.

Well, my thoughts on this are as follows:

1-handed guns: Not too feasible. Players aren't Mater Chiefs, just people with guns.

All shottys (not the sawed-off one): Sure, why not? If the single barrerl shotty can, why not the double barrel?

rifles, autoguns: Perhaps. I wouldn't find it believable for a normal person to do significant damage if we melee the way you do in Halo with the AR. Generally not enough mass at the end, I'd think. Smacking someone with the butt of the gun doesn't sound like it has enough leverage to deal significant damage.

Minigun: nah, way too heavy.

Flamer: I like the spike idea.

LG: Why not have it act as a tazer for melee?

RL: Sure. Why not even add a risk or a loaded rocket detonating on impact?

Land mine: *Thwack* - "Ow, my nose" - *BOOM!* - "Ow, my all-of-me" --Strong bad has the best quotes.

Guns with backpacks cant be smashed, but can be swinged a little.

Hilarity would ensue trying to meelee someone with a landmine.

All I can read from that post is that your mind is too much in the reality.

As for the RL, you can swing it safely when no rocket is ready in the barrel.

Long guns as a close in meele weapon are pure nasty. That's why all major militarys spend a week or two traing thier trops to use weapons in hand to hand combat with a weapon. A fist can do hard damage, but two hands driving a gun butt or barrel into a target can do major hurt.

Would they really train you to hit with the barrel? That seems like it'd really put the gun at risk for getting something damaged or misaligned...

better to keep your life than to keep your gun.

Military personnel don't use the gun's barrel to hit people. They use the butt-end of it. It's not called "Rifle-Butting" for no reason.

Keeping both is even better.

Yep they do train you to hit barrel first also. Most times it is with a bayonet on it. Even then my squad was trianed in how to stike barrel first as a desperation move. After all a cleaning kit can be used to clean the meat plug out of the barrle if you are alive afterwards to do it. Or so the DI told us at the time.

Still it's far better to butt stroke if you have the time to do that.

Also a quick note on the pistiol as a meele weapon. There is a gent from Isreal that has a course that teaches you how to use you pistiol as an extension of your fist for doing harm to a target. He teaches stunning and killng blows and how to combine a punch and a trigger pull for full effect. I took a short course years ago to see what it was about. I know it has another name but all of us in the class simply refered to it as gun fu. So a pistil can make a good meele weapon if the need be.

I never knew that, but I can definitely see how it would be a last ditch attack.

As for the 'gun fu', I never knew they had courses for that. Cool

Of course, I knew that pistol whipping was clearly a possible attack, 'tis why they even got a name for it...

Not even sure where someone would get the idea that someone clad in power armor is more capable of doing it than an average human... that didn't even make sense.

Again, meele attack key would be awesome. And for some weapons would be really cool. Like for the Fifty9, keeping the alt fire slash, then giving the meele attack key a stab that embeds itself in the guy.
