What is dark energy?

The name is directly stolen from HL2, that's the only game where I heard the term Dark-Energy.

The properties however are completely different.

I'd love to know how it looks like and acts in motion, which is necessary to make this weapon happen.
Dark Energy is the name of the last chapter in HL2, though I don't think we ever saw what this dark energy was, except maybe the singularity at the very end.

When thinking of dark energy, I immediately think of dark matter. Which for the most part the physical form of the nothingness of space

In a more fictional sence dark energy is used in Half Life 2 as a fuel source for the Combine Citadel reactor and also powers a massive portal generator. It is not just a chapter name.

Dark energy in half life 2 is simply a noun used to describe unknown particles that origin from the Combine universe but these particles are lethal, in fact the combine stores them in glowing "bubbles" of plasma which they fire at rebels. The dark matter reacts upon contact of a biological entity and results in that entity magically ceasing to exist. The energy, since it also does not respond properly to the physics of our universe bounces around erratically and violently until the plasma bubble bursts. This exposes the dark energy to our elements and it too ceases to exist.*

But in the case for this weapon we will need to assume a different theory on "Dark Energy". Only MMM can tell us this.

I doubt it was the singularity at the very end, more like the whole dark workings of the Combine being referred to as Dark Energy.

dark energy is just a theory of some physicists.
if you want to know more about it then look it up on wikipedia.

"Real" Dark energy really isn't something you can "shoot" at people to kill them.

"Real" is in quotation marks because I consider DE to be the phlogiston or aether of our time.

it doesn't matter if it really can be shot.
it just sounds nice.

But either way it is fictional enough to come up with our own theory of it's properties.

DE could be an extract of the physical wall of the universe where reality ends and non-existance begins. And this dark energy will corrode what does exist into non existance if it passes the wall since nothing is meant to be outside the universe. Hence a lethal property

What you like better for a space fighter?
A big metal ball with no details at all.
Or a spacefighter filled in with tubes, armor plates and alot of other details. XD

Anyways this could be a nice weapon, a fast firing semi automatic rifle is what this game misses.

It is not enjoyable using a weapon that lacks good looks. Be glad Bulska is worrying about this, because you are obviously not interested in making successful guns.

how it works is important

but details just as important as how it functions.
maybe a little less, as gameplay is why you play the game.
But there must be a balance between Graphics and Gameplay.
Sometimes they block each other, sometimes they go with each other.
Either way, try getting as much from both of them.

We don't even have to think about this since the RS guys would make the guns RS quality, they'd just use the idea thread as a base.

Just for record I am going to state why details are important. So everyone understands

Details are necassary to the point of getting an idea off the ground. Why? Think of it as good advertising to go along with your gameplay suggestion

If you want the RS devs to use your idea it first has to appeal to them. What will they think of this?:

Some gun:

primary shoots bullets: 40 damage
Its automatic: 1 bullet every 0.6 seconds
secondary activates scope

big ammo clip with short reload.

It tells you everything you need to know for functionality but have you noticed there is nothing drawing you to it? You may already think, "So its another battle rifle, what does it have against the current one?"

RS devs will have even more questions:

"will this compliment our current selection of weapons?", "does it compliment the BW universe?", "Will it be fun to use?", "how hard is this to make?", "will it introduce balance issues or fit in nicely?".

None of these can be answered without further details than that.

Details laid out well address all these things. Not only answering their queries or skeptism but also making them say "WOW, that sounds awesome! We gotta make this one!"

In short, details offer Character. They make the gun interesting and once it gains interest people want to know more about that character.

Otherwise your idea will simply be passed by.

i think you guys didn't understand me. with details i meant small things like: "should it be pulse-energy or dark-energy" small things like that.


better if it isn't full auto, then we have a second battle rifle.
the main idea of this thread was to have a 'semi-automatic' rifle in BW.

Oh, well we all seemed to get a picture that details involve the amount of information, story, statistics, logistics that you put in your initial description. etc

BTW: in my previous responce I wasnt refering to your weapon I was actualy thinking of the UT sniper rifle when I posted that.

i think to it would look nice if it would look a bit like the assault-rifle in Unreal-2, but in real BW style.

I was reading NewScientist magazine and passed by an article on dark energy. It is beleived to be expanding the mass of our sun. Then again it is also being blamed for expanding the universe. This mass feed could also be responsible for altering the transmission signals from the pioneer space probes due to the graviational impact it has.

So can dark energy bend other forms of energy around it? Great sci-fi material there: mass increasing bullets and energy warping grenades

and about Unreal-2: what it lacks in gameplay it makes up in graphics.
so expect it to be beautiful and boring.

Look for the U2Skaarj mod made by EvilEngine, adds the Unreal 2 Skaarj to UT2004 as playable models and invasion monsters.

And by the way, don't confuse crappy gameplay with lack of story MMM. If you are bright enough to understand that Unreal 2 has no story relations with the original, the gameplay is great as a stand-alone game.
