And if the game feels slow to you, it's probably because it's one-on-one or something. Games are much faster when more people are involved, so spread the word! Slowness has nothing to do with any changes made in BW v2.1.

I played the other day with 'Freon'. It was pretty fun. Nice choice of maps.

Heh, now I see what you mean about the FP9 being used as a grenade. They're like remote charges of death.

Yeah. Once I get around to tweaking things, the first thing will be added is an FP9 with a timer. No more instant drop-dodge-detonate spam in my server!

Is the redirect server working on this server? It takes forever to download maps and etc..

The game server is configured to only use the redirect server for downloads and the like, so if an item isn't on the redirect server, you will not be able to download it.

Unfortunately, while adding maps at some point, I had assumed that they were already in the redirect server. If you run into anything that doesn't load at all, please list them here and I would be glad to get rid of them.

IMO this is the best server out there to date, simply because most of the other Ballistic servers (there's only one other up that I know of at the moment) are ONS with extremely overpowered, modded vehicles that render the weapons themselves useless. Great to see a pure DM server that focuses on the weapons themselves

I have added two of my weapon tweaks to my server. One is a tweaked BX5 with less trigger sensitivity, less damage for spring mode, and a smaller max carrying capacity of 4.

he second is the FP9C7 Claymore Device to replace the FP9A5 Explosive. This features directional shrapnel, a decreased explosive radius, and what amounts to a 2.5 second fuse to delay the time between your planting the device and your ability to detonate it (so no drop-dodge-detonate spam anymore!)

Also included is the ability to plant the device on people. This has not been fully tested yet (for one thing, I've yet to test what happens when you stick it on to a person and someone kills him before you detonate it), but it should be fun to make bombs out of people if it works properly.
My tweaked M75 Railgun was planned to join them but was removed due to wonky performance online. And it worked flawlessly in instant-action too. :*(

I have tweaks for other weapons in the works. For a hint at what I'm doing (in addition to balance tweaks, of course), check my last post in the Fan screenshots thread in BW General.


Please try them out and place any comments or report any bugs that will inevitably result from my fumbling about with computer code in this thread.

My modded M806, AM67, A42, and M75 are working perfectly on the server now. Go try them out!


Here's a few of the things I changed:

M806 - huge boosts all around. Increased damage, fire rate, and reduced recoil effects. Chaos slightly increased. Burst-fire now works exactly the same as the RS8's


AM67 - Rebalanced. Damage reduced a bit and alt-fire charge time increased. Burst fire has been completely removed in favor of a rapid-fire fully-automatic mode (think SRS900 firing rate). Chaos also reduced for the weapon.


A42 - I did some interesting things with this gun. The primary fire now cycles counter-clockwise through all 3 barrels when firing. Accuracy is reduced, but damage and projectile speed has been increased, as well as firing rate. The weapon chews through its battery much more quickly now, and no longer charges continuously while firing. It even bleeds battery life when holding an alt-fire charge. To compensate, the recharging system has been revamped so that it must "cool down" for two seconds before it quickly recharges back to full strength. The useless semi-auto weapon mode has been replaced by a spread-shot mode, firing 3 projectiles with one pull of the trigger.


M75 - This railgun works a little differently. It will only fire once it is charged up to a preset level. It automatically charges to20% power when the weapon is idle, so a shot at 20% power will fire instanly, doing a little more damage than a single R78A1 shot. Subsequent power levels/ require you to hold the mouse button to charge until it reaches the set power level and discharges automatically. Damage scales up linearly, so a shot at 100% power does 5 times the
damage as one at 20%. If the fire button is released before the weapon reaches the desired power level the shot is aborted and the weapon powers back down to 20%. Note that you are free to adjust your scope and move about while charging the weapon. After a particularly powerful shot is fired, the weapon must cool down for a moment before it can be charged again.


G5 - Turning radius has been greatly increased, while maximum speed and acceleration has increased. Weapon chaos has increased drastically, so attempting to guide a rocket with the laser while running would be unwise. The Mortar mode has also been changed. After playing the COD4 demo, I thought it would be cool if the G5 worked the way the Javelin, and now it does. It could use some tweaking, but it works and looks cool.


FP9 Explosive - It now has an "arming delay" of 2 seconds after deployment or throwing, during which the device cannot be detonated (unless damaged). This is to prevent cheesy spamming of the weapon which is really annoying. To balance this nerf, it now blasts deadly shrapnel wherever it's pointed, and can be planted on people! You can stick the bombs on peoples' backs, which is difficult but very fun to pull off. Planting a laser tripmine on a person will cause him to detonate if he moves! Buahahaha!


Machine guns - Greatly increased damage (M353 does the same damage as the M50 and SAR-12, while the M925's damage is comparable to that of the R78. Their increased damage is countered by the massive movement chaos and recoil.


Minigun - Recoil randomness reduced greatly, so sustained fire while unmounted will no longer result in a flailing, spasming gun vomiting bullets everywhere. It now follows a windy recoil curve, allowing the operator to sustain fire and control it to a degree without having the gun fly out of his hands. To balance this out, the ammo capacity has been reduced to 600 and 3600 RPM is disabled unless you mount the weapon.


Grenades - Carrying capacity greatly reduced for all of them, especially the Pineapple.


Other weapons - I've noticed that many of the standard bullet weapons end up hitting ceiling after so many shots, and I thought that was kinda silly, so I've redone many of the weapon curves so the fully-automatic weapon spend a little more time closer to the center. Higher recoil creates more violent, random recoil effects instead of just shooting it straight up.



There are still a few bugs here and there to iron out, so I won't be putting up any download links for these guns. For instance, the D49 only leaves 1 bullet hole with alt-fire, though it does two traces. The G5 is just wonky in general. If anyone sees anything bad, please tell me and I'll see if I can fix it. I'll officially "release" it when I'm satisfied that the weapons are (mostly) bug free and as balanced as I can possibly make them.

BUG REPORT!

Was messing around with the new and improved rail gun (WHICH I REALLY, REALLY LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!) and had it set to 60% charge (timing is really similar to the Halo3 Spartan Laser at that level) and I was plinking around at a bot. Well, at one point I missed about 3 or 4 times at the bot, though I could've sworn they were dead on.

I looked at my ammo counter, and to my surprise, the ammo counter hasn't depleted at all, and I just realized that the trail didn't show for those last shots either. It sounded like it shot when it should have, but only the sound and the charge bar reflected that I shot, but there was no trail, impact mark, and I'm pretty sure no damage.

This happened several times and I wasn't doing anything different from the other times when it worked, as far as I know. I was in scoped mode, but that was pretty much for every shot, regardless of if it worked or not. Another thing I should mention, though I'm not entirely sure about, is that I think the shots that didn't work didn't cock between firing, and I think for the next shot that worked, it was manually cocked, Though I'm not entirely sure about that.

Another thing, is that the A42 still displayed a burst fire mode, even though there isn't. Maybe check out how the shotguns handle only having one fire mode? Other than that I love the changes.

One thing I feel the rail gun needs, is some sort of charge sound. Maybe have the AM67 capacitor charge sound with set pitches for each charge percentage. Just make the longer charge times have a lower pitch so it matches the time a bit better. Or just go with maybe a tweaked A42 alt fire charge sound. Dunno what, but it needs something, I'd say. Perhaps the Lightning Gun charge sound?

Thats all I got to say so far, but I can't tell you how much I LOVE the railgun! It actually makes sniping a bit of a challenge!

No idea what's causing the Railgun firing bug. I put a bunch of stuff on the logs and everything there indicates that it SHOULD fire successfully, but doesn't :/

I think I'll just remove the A42's burst to make things easier. Not much use for it with spread shot anyway.

As for the rail gun's charging sound, if you turn up the volume and listen, you'll hear the weapon's humming increase in pitch while charging, and slightly decrease whenever it reaches one of the preset power levels. Kinda sounds like a car shifting gears. I do agree that it's kinda hard to hear. I've experimented with the A42's alt-fire and thought it sounded too weird, but I'll look into it some more.

Well at the time I joined the forums I loved BW and UT and since then Ive just grown attached. Its a friendly community. But enough spamming this thread its not nice to thread hijack.

I like playing the server, but I tend to stick to the much more closed combat fights and more stealth combat, where I am much better at playing. Honestly, everytime you (Kab) come in, I just get headshotted by that damn D49! I can hold up against bots and make it just even with them, but you just overkill me! I still do love playing DeadlyShore2 because it's easy to hide and then kill every once in a while.

Or it's true. I do much better when I do closed combat. Today, it was Antalus I was playing around in (18 kills, me and a bot). 10 minutes after Kab enters... it's 21 to 24 (me 21, Kab 24, and poor bot now stuck at 18).

Later on, when I came back from dinner, was on my own in a TDM Curse4 match. Died 1 time and won, 60 to 1. That includes a bot suicide from all 3 bots (red bot suicided for a player to enter), and 3 kills on blue team against my human teammate. I seriously am better at close combat.

Here are some of my main goals with my weapons:

-Balance. Pretty straight-forward here, though not as easy as I initially thought it would be. Still many imbalances in the game, particularly with some of the pistols.

-Increased AimSpread for all of the weapons while not using iron or laser sights. This reduces accuracy while not using the sights,, so you need to use the sights in order to get pinpoint accuracy. The effect isn't quite as powerful as I would like it, however. Will need to increase the numbers there. With the stock weapons, you pretty much knew exactly where your bullet will go if you stand still, even without help of the sights, which is somewhat unrealistic and makes sights less useful.

-More realistic laser sight behavior. BallisticV21's laser sights slowed down your AimAdjustTime, which basically made your gun shake around more slowly when activated, which doesn't make sense. That has been removed in favor of the above.

-More realistic recoil effects. Maybe not "realistic", but definitely makes a little more sense than the stock ones I think. The stock weapons often just pitch up without moving your aim and crosshairs up as well, so you find yourself hitting the ceiling while the crosshair is on the player. I've adjusted the recoil so that it just moves away from the crosshair in a more random fashion, so you don't have to pitch your view down to hit a guy with full-auto (although it will be harder to reliably hit shots). I think this simplifies run-and-gun gameplay a tad. The Minigun has also been modified so that it no longer sprays wildly and flies randomly out of control, but instead travels a winding path that can be controlled, but with difficulty. It also can no longer be fired while running, only walking, which is true for my G5 and M75 (to an extent).

-Faster SightingTimes. I think just about every gun will pull up into iron sights or scope a lot faster, for improved accuracy from a distance and easier sniping on the move.

-Try not to just solidly nerf a weapon. This is another important one for me, as I really don't want to just flat out nerf weapons. I try to give it some new ability to compensate for its lost power, like the AM67's improved full-auto mode, or the M75's power increase /difficulty increase tradeoff. I think about the only weapon I've just flat out nerfed are the BX5 mines, but I think I have a few ideas regarding those. I've also had some success in removing FP7 and flamethrower fire with healing items, which is nice (NEXT UPDATE! Sorry OCAdam). My big project right now is making the G5 behave more like the Javelin Missile launcher, which is frickin' sweet I must say. My biggest hurdle is getting the new targeting graphics to work right with the scope, as I have no experience with Canvas objects. Look forward to that in the next few days.


There's also an interesting new toy Xav and I have been tinkering with, that some of you may find interesting. It's a little different in purpose from all of the other Ballistic weapons. I hope to put it up on the server soon, once the effects and functions are finalized.

Just played another Curse4 match, got another victory. I'm the shoot and hide player I guess. It's when I run and gun that I suck.

Edit: Oh and the Health Packs didn't really take the fire away from me when Cathode burned me with a RX22A. I did survive though a few times from having 2 packs next to each other!

I think I'm a bit too used to my weapons and how they go around. Mine are trying to destroy run and gun actually, and add more tactical realism. I just need to fix my recoil and chaos settings to get what I'm thinking is both realistic and what can make the game go for more crouch and shoot. Of course, I can also easily destroy the no ironsights and perfect aim with ease too (^_^). Anyways, our mods are just radically different in play style.

I should have been more clear. That's coming in the next update. Which will hopefully include the new G5 and aforementioned cool toy.

EDIT: I also enjoy shoot and hide, which is why I like DM-Blackhawk so much with Loadout inventory. Great map for sniping. Other players don't seem to enjoy getting picked off by someone they can't even see.

Gael was also somewhat popular with some of the other players. G5s and Flamers everywhere!
