lets me play UT3 with everything on high (set to 5) at around 30-40 fps average (except AA/AF setting), Crysis on low, HL2 stuff maxed settings (except 4xAA, 8xAF) at around 60fps, COD4 pretty high settings at around 70fps.

I do mostly work stuff, minimal gaming, so I'm satisfied for now...

(The devs are ordering their GPU today, I'll let them tell you what it is, but it's gonna rock!!).

my pc is the lowest one it has a penteum 2 548 mh possessor 256 ram and a gforce 7700 video card

My video card really sucks compared to yours...

But if I want to change, I have to change the motherboard as well

So, better change everything exept the RAM which will still be good

Whats really frustrating is that my computer surpasses All the requirements for UT2004 by typically double (everything but processor is double), but it still only gets 30FPS on Low settings. I have AA disabled on my video card (actually, I'm not too sure on that anymore), performance settings to the max, and even went to an older driver that I read worked a lot better for UT2.

Just checked, it appears my AA is turned off...
BW and Classic Doom are the only games I play on my computer... but I still can't get UT2004 running smoothly... ARGH!

Captain Xavious you may need to upgrade your current graphics card in order for UT2004 to run smoothly......

UT2004 runs fine on my comp. with everything maxed and a 1280*1024 resolution
Well, it depends how many Zombies/players/bots there are as well.

But if I try Troopers Dawn of destiny 6.0 with everything maxed, it will go really slow.
Same for Soulkeeper.

C&C 3 is running but with Medium setting and no shadows (shadows always kill my PC)

I think once again it's all my graphic card's fault !

The processor and memory are just as weak. He'd be better off buying a new PC.

Except the 9800 is like just two Ultra 8800's slapped together with only a 30% boast.

I understand all this, but shouldn't it still be performing better than it does on UT2004 at low settings?

I can't even get higher than 40 FPS, and looking at the requirements for UT2004, they're all past recommended specs. Are the recommendations really that far off or am I misunderstanding what kind of results you're supposed to get at recommended specs? Or is there something else muddling with my performance...?

Anyway, for graphic cards, ATI isn't the best right now... Well, it was some years ago, even better than Nvidia.
But Nvidia caught up ATI with the 6000 series, since then, ATI quality was always bellow Nvidia (I don't know about price competitivity though).

Well, it's a race between Nvidia and ATI, trying to keep their old customers and having new ones.
A bit like INTEL - AMD, AMD was better than INTEL mainly because of the processor cooldown (even if INTEL processor were more powerful but they were slower because of how quickly they were heating... it's also a price problem, AMD was always cheaper than INTEL) but now INTEL caught up AMD though I don't know about the price of new processors.

Let's see what future brings us and may it be the best and as cheap as possible for us, customers

There is definitely something wrong with the performance you're getting. UE2 is over 5 years old if we don't count the 2.5 modification made in late 2003 for UT2004. But this is one of the unexplainable things I'm afraid, if the problem doesn't hide in the hardware, then formatting will most likely do the trick.



AMD and Intel processors are based on two completely different architecture and computing algorithms. AMD was faster both because they were cooler and they had more effective setup for their processors; more operations per second. (remember that amount of operations are not in sync with clock frequency)

But that applies to the Pentium series and the AMD X2's with the old sockets. Intel created the Core 2 Duos from scratch (which was a good thing since the Pentium-way of doing it was not working at all), and now they're going much faster than AMD. And they are even about to release the next generation of the quadcores. I have no idea what AMD are planning to do though, but I do know they want to put a warp drive on their processors.

By the way, heat does not affect a processor's work speed noticably until temps go extremely high. The Pentiums were the kings of clock frequencies, so they naturally ran hotter, but with good cooling solution that can be mostly avoided.

The 8800GT is a very, very good card. I love it.

Though before you put it in, check on the web. I've heard of people having problems with the 8800 series and UT2004. I've personally been having lots of stuttering trouble with Deus Ex and my card.

Deus Ex is based on UE1. Sounds to me like the 8000 series dislike more than just UE2, or at least the current drivers.
