So just because its an open field doesnt mean you need a scope, you ever here of that one Finnish sniper who was armed with the fin version of the mosin nagant m91/30? He only used iron sights and in the late 1930s when the soviets invaded finland he killed 400 enemy soldiers in 100 hours, thats 4 people an hour, before he got his jaw blown off by a russian sniper... he lived. His name escapes me right now.

Scopes belong on the snipers rifles not on the battle rifles.

I didn't say ironsights are useless. And no, that's an incredible story. All i'm saying is that scopes are a good thing. The weight and clunkiness is a minus. But the increased accuracy is not. I see no reason why an assault rifle should not have a scope, unless one is more comfortable with iron sights.

You dont increase the accuracy of a weapon by mounting a scope on it. It will perform the same as if it didnt have one, its the person using the weapon is what makes it more accurate, personaly IRL i hate scopes, i do better with iron sights. My dad loves scopes and hates iron sights. Its all personal preference.

I could see holographic sights or maybe a non magnifying red dot scope going on it but not a scope like the SRS.

I apologize, when I said scopes increase accuracy, I meant that some become more efficient when aiming through a scope. Misstatement, I apologize.

All this talk of scopes has given me an idea and possible solution. Why not have a camera on the end of the gun, and an eyepiece (not visible on player model) that activates when you hit the iron-sights key, displaying a zoomable view from the camera? It'd give BW that sci-fi edge. Only possible problem is that you'll probably be able to stay zoomed in while running.

I would say that an under-slung shotgun would make this a CCish weapon so a close rang sight would be most useful, however this debate has gone too far from its start, and I vote we leave this until we see the attachments system in game.

The SAR-12 already has one. Of course, it doesn't really work like a real holographic scope does, but that would be hard to do.

Holographic sights have been around for a while, i was gonna get one for my ak but then thought better of it. WAY to expensive for a piece of plastic and glass that already does what my iron sights do.

since it is 150 years or so in the future maybe they would have developed something new that would serve a similar purpose to holographic scopes...

Using that logic, you'd also think they'd have developed something better than a FAMAS/AK-47/D.Eagle or any other design based on current weapons.

Hell, just about every weapon design in the game should be obsolete by then.

Its hard to improve on some of the best firearms available. Famas is relatively new, 70's i think, ak has been around for a very long time, Desert eagle has been around for a while as well but not as long as the ak. These are just 3 of the best weapons on the face of the planet, 1 great french design, one great russian design, and one great isreali design. Which if theres ammo for them they will outlive us all.

We're talking hundreds of years into the future here. Perhaps over 300, if '2329' in the J2329 HAMR can be interpreted as the year of the weapon's development. Weapon designs and aesthetics should be radically different by then. The current weapon designs indicate that BW's story line takes place much sooner, say within a century from now.

Provided we could create practical space faring ships and remember,we got bullied out of using our high power energy weapons.

I didn't say anything about energy weapons. All I was saying is that the weapons should not resemble designs which by then would be hundreds of years old. Those designs are old now.

True to that Kab, True to that about half these weapons don't really feel much futuristic to start with,(with the exception of energy weapons. ) Besides Runestorm is always hush hush now a days.

I might be wrong but I remember reading that after the Skrith invasion humanity picked up their old ballistic weapons.

I agree that the weapons should be highly advanced lead launchers but along the timeline we might have developed energy weapons in the near future that replace our bullet hoses.Thus the available weapons would be stuff we wield today.

But yea cowboy guns just are out of place,but they are still awesome.

I'm sure more interesting bullet weapons would have been developed before they were replaced by laser guns.

Well have you seen the new african assualt rifle the Vektor CR-21 assault rifle. That looks a fancy and space age, guess what though, its just an AK-47 prettied up. The reason old designs are still being used and will be used for the for seeable future is because they still work and can still be adapted to new job requirements.

Miniguns for example have been around since the 1800s. The reason we still use them is because they could be easily adapted to new roles. The basic mechanism of the gattling gun hasnt changed, it just had an electric motor added.

So seeing the Famas, a relatively new design, 300 years in the future does not sound all that far-fetched to me, after seeing these two examples of supposedly dated weaponry brought back to the moder frontlines.

I'm not talking about the internal mechanics of the weapons, although I'm sure those will change significantly as well. I'm talking about the ergonomics and form factor and aesthetics of the weapons.

Also, it's silly to call that Vektor thing just a "prettied up" AK-47 just because they use a similar or identical firing mechanism. Same with the Gatling gun.
