Except XP was much better recieved than Vista when they were each first shown.

I hate Vista 'cause it's just a "closed box" ... Not customizable as much as XP !

There's lot of things you can do under XP and are not implemented in Vista or simply forbidden !
That's why I don't want to go on Vista !
+ Back when I was programming I found Xp not always easy to handle, so I don't want to imagine how it would be under Vista x)

Instead, they should have developped more XP, improving the core and making directX 10 for Xp !lol It would have been much more greater for the public !

Xp wasn't great at all when it first came out, sure, but now it's really a pleasure to work under it ! Now, they made a new OS, still a lot of bugs and protection defaults, but they're trying to improve it. Poeple were only getting used to XP when Vista came out.

I think microsoft is really on the wrong way, they're trying to make their programs even more simple and instead they became more annoying (thinking of Office 2007 and Vista).

You don't need DX10 for a vista theme on XP, I often use one that I downloaded.

I use windowsblinds though. It can be got for free, but it's tricky.

I tried windowsblinds but got back to my classical Vista Inspiration Pack, simply love it

I was using smartbar XP, which is a really cool program fitting with the theme of the desktop but I removed it due to the fact it crashed while I was launching a game or sometimes it was really slowing it.

Does anybody here use or used to have that kind of program ?

I even tried for some month a 3D desktop (with a map) it was really fun but took a lot of RAM and when you don't really need it...
But it can be useful for poeple working with a lot of windows all day long.

I've got a genuine Vista Sidebar Ported Over, It's pretty handy. You can use all the downloadable gadgets.
It's also one of those quite rare legal torrents.

On the other hand if you're not bothered about new gadgets, Thoosje Sidebar has a pretty good stock set.

What I loved in smart bar xp was the fact that it showed your entire computer performance with a lot details !
But that must be the feature that make it crash and take a lot of CPU ressources I think !

Its a picture of Saturn taken by Cassini with it eclipsing the sun. I have it because it reminds me of my insignificance. That dot that i've ringed is Earth (about 1 bn Km away).
