Well, it's nice because that force you to advance in the game.

In Oblivion and Morrowind, I did all the guild quest, so in the end I was really powerful, known and loved by everyone, Master of all guild... But the main quest was never completed at all.
Ooh, yes, I finished the main quest of the first addon of Morrowind, I was amazed I did it without even noticing it, lol.

In GTA games, I never did anyquest at all, just stealing cars and runing through the entire city...

The little I played GTA games, I did that too. And as the games have more features (especially GTA4) it is easy to play a game for a long time without ever touching the actual story.

In Far Cry, it took me a long time to go the objective, but I finally did it.
I was testing the engine and how free the player could be, it was a nice surprise for a FPS.

I really hope that Mirrors Edge has certain Districts which function as maps. These districts would be very big and free roam. Then you recieve a mission from a PDA or something and then you have to run to some objectives.

That way you can go anywhere you like, it would be nice if a route would be given, such as the red lines and markings. But you can always go somewhere else, in case you do, it gives the new shortest way there.

Open worlds are fun, I hope this game has one.

by the way. there is one problem with stalker. millions of bugs. with the newest patch it is alright though. i would not reccomend playing without the 1.005 patch. and after you have completed it once i would reccomend playing wth oblivion lost, adds in cutout mutants, adds vehicles, sleeping, better anomalies and better artifacts, however, it lessens the atmoshpere somewhat.

I would recommend the 1.006 patch myself.

Patch are most of the time good excuse from Dev. for putting the game on the market a bit too early

I remember I had much expectation of Vampire, the Masquerade: Bloodline and finally the game was a total mess full of bugs with no multiplayer... (It was what players were most waiting for, was actually quite normal to create a multiplayer mode for a game directly inspired from the pen & paper game =/ )

Hope mirror's edge and prototype won't disapoint us in that field !

"Most of the time" is an overstatement. Keep in mind that beta testers may or may not find all bugs. The initial release of a game is always a beta version for the general player. The amount of players is much bigger than that of the beta testing group, therefore more bugs will be discovered.

Plus beta testing teams don't have a wide variety of systems. That means the players, who have all sorts of setups, will maybe come across previously unknown problems.

but, players should just play the game, a minority of them searches for glitches and bugs themselves... or perhaps half of them... or perhaps more.

But anyways, the Beta Testers should be focusing on finding glitches and bugs and then making reports out of them.

That is exactly what they do.

As for players, I never said they should look for bugs, the bugs simply appear if triggered. The best way to tell developers about such things is on their official forum or through email if that is a possibility.

Actually, I was talking about some games which are mostly unplayable because they must have jumped beyond the beta testing step...

I don't mind some bugs, I agree it's not possible to find all bugs and patch are great but though, some games are shamefuly put on the market whith so much bugs... It's simply unacceptable !!!!

Sometimes patch never comes so it's up to the community to create one... (have some example)

What is even more sad is that for consoles, they don't have such patches... So the player has to play with all those problems which will never be resolved

Consoles have their own patches, i remember downloading on xbox360 for NFS Carbon and for Army of Two if not mistaken.

Send the complaints to the publisher then, they are the ones who set release deadlines.

Heres an idea,make the game first,THEN pitch your idea to the publisher(of course this will only work if you already have[ridiculous money amounts here]).

Bad move. You don't want to spend extreme money on development before knowing if any publisher will be interested. Because of that, only mainstream games would be developed without a publisher's funding.

All you have to do is pull the right strings,they WILL publish it then.

No sane person would take a risk that expensive. You want to be sure that millions of dollars will return along with a decent bonus, otherwise the business is over.

Send complaint to the dev. ? I guess there's already million poeple who did that and nothing changed for those games.

Luckily I never bought any game like that, but I have friends who have and it's quite frustrating to spend money for something you can't use

That is an exaggeration on their behalf. The software just needs a kick in the butt to start up if it doesn't normally, and if it refuses to run at all, then simply return it.
