I only respect decisions that deserve respect. RS have made some dodgy ones in the past but I would consider it a nice idea to just leave BW2 for UT2004 and start a new and fresh BW for UT3. If the community wants BW2 weapons for UT3, then they can always port them themselves.

I did consider it a possibility to port BW2 to UT3, taking a few months, the question is if it's worth it. I don't even know if I will learn to like UT3 or not.

I'm going with porting the BW2 weapons and upping everything about them because i severely DOUBT RS will have time to make a whole new set of weapons for BW3.. since well it takes like upwards of a month to create 2 weapons... just plain crazy.

No it wouldn't suck to see the BW2 weapons in UT3... but hey, the alpha shotgun i tried (when the pitbull was the old shotgun) it looked great, and a the effects were cool.

Honestly, if they just brought it over, gave it some touch ups, refined damage, brought over the Bloody Hell (with added effects as mentioned in my thread of ideas) and generally just improved on all the effects and weapons... you'd probably have a BW for UT3 that would feel almost completely different, might look a bit like BW2, but would be alot of fun and it wouldn't take a year to come out, at most like 2 to 3 months.

Im down with w/e, either way any of the suggestions are going to take time to complete. I would prefer the best of BW2 and then additional new stuff, mix it up a bit.

I'm sure even if RS did go down the road of bringing the old content and making it all awesome, i'm sure they'd make some other new guns like teh pitbull and add them in to give some extra flavor to BW.

That does work out quite nicely. And instead of taking time to create fully new weapons that take months to create, you can use that time to refine everything and add new functions and features and just make it the most awesome weapons pack ever... as well as combine the Thor and Pitbull in later on.

And how UT3's code would allow for more fluid animations, effects and functions, it would be a really sweet thing to behold. Like instead of having to create a new updates pineapple or G5... you could just spend a little bit of time spiffy up the old model with bump mapping and other techniques and then focus on adding cooler effects (I would suggest more than 1 explosion... cause that would be awesome, and no one would ever suspect that kind of depth). Or how i suggested the Flamethrower could have new tank effects when hit like rupturing then exploding right away, or flying any direction, spiral or anything... pretty much bringing BW2 over would allow to go insane on the visual aspect and refinement of the weapons... because seriously if i EVER am fighting in a map and just see some random player soaring past me from another room with a flamethrowers tank ruptured then hitting the wall and exploding it mist and blood and gore (maybe teh body would still be partly their, then u could shoot it up til it gibs more) that would stun me ( yes that does happen in BW2 as of now, but for UT3... it would be so great due to the gravity of the game).

I'm still all for it. If it means that "BW3" would be super refined and 1000x more awesome visually then Bw2, i'm all for it. And honestly, it would be cool to see a bunch of new super awesome looking weapons, but honestly, the old weapons are so well done, you just need to fiddle with em a bit and blam, new awesome stuff.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think brand new weapons would really take all that long to make. Sure the first two took about a month, but they were their first UT3 weapons. I imagine it took a bit of time learning and getting used to the new engine. With that out of the way, work should progress faster, right?

But that's without fancy coding and such, just using the baseline code. but then again, that point is relevant to porting, too, so it is rather moot except not needing to do much to models.

Work should progress faster when they are familiar with the new engine and toolset, but it will still take a while to design models, sounds, textures, normal maps, and so on.

Could one of the devs comment on this? How much of the 2 to 3 weeks for the Thor's development can be attributed to the new engine? What's your estimated development time for "standard" weapons.

well.. we worked non-stop, for weeks to get those 2 guns and character in.. if we had to do 20, we'd find Karoshi! we have to choose carefully our work in any new engine, coz there is just sooo much stuff to do, nd often it's stuff you just don't think about or even notice

it is true, that we had 0 experience in UT3's engine when we started the LG, but we more or lesss had it pegged for the SG, which was quicker..

Engines these days take alot of effort to make quality stuff. Normal maps (done with HD meshes and converted bump textues), specular and emmisve textures, usual rigging and animating, coding, bugs with the engines (time consuming problems), all the extra features you don,t think of.. in UT3 for example, did you notice that for the LG's and SG's attacks the screen shakes and adjusts in color and such? thats all done with seperate Camera Animations made in Ued.

For comfort you can think about the fact that this will only get worse as games and technology evolve.
