Hey Glos, if you know what beta testers do, and you think you are up to the fun job of it, then you should still try for it. Just a bit of encouragement from little ol' me. Which is not really too little, I'm still about 6 foot.

I don't know if I can be a good beta tester but I think I need to test the weapons, compatibility if they make the game more unstable, find bugs ...
I don't know because my own english is pretty bad, but I will take some reflexion about this

Day 1 - Hype review

Okay. Here's some of the peculiar things I found with Kelly's Weapon Pack:

General Stuffage:
-Pistols and other one-handed weapons can't be dual-wielded yet. Hmm...
-There seems to be an incompatibility going on with Ballistic Force to Walk mutator. Sometimes, a weapon won't go into iron sights, or the mutator fails to work at all (weapon goes into iron sights, but moving/running immediately disables it).

Particular Stuffage:

Golden Gun
-Doesn't look so golden to me, heh.

Assault Pistol
-There's a transparency on the main part of the gun.

Auto-shottie
-I like this shotgun. This is gonna tide me over 'til a fully-modeled, drum-fed auto-shottie comes rolling along in the near future.
-Doesn't cock properly when reloading from an empty mag, but it still fires. As a matter of fact, it does not cock at all. I think Kelly has to find a way to release the empty shells without having to cock the shottie (given its nature)...

Skrith Rifle
-Nothing particular as of yet.

Assault Rifle
-There seems to be a floating texture near the front of the mag. It won't turn up in the screenshots, so I can't show exactly where it is
-The Automatic fire mode seems useless given that the Suppression fire is just as accurate.

SMAT
-Nothing particular as of yet.

Minigun
-The entire gun goes transparent when picking up a Damage Amp.
-Clicking on the secondary fire/laser sights makes the weapon jerk a little, like it was affected by recoil.

BFG
-Welp... it's a BFG, what else can I say...?
-The reload key seems a bit useless for this weapon. Would be nice if it was used for another function

BFG's little brother
-Like with the BFG, the reload key is a bit useless

Flamer Plasma
-Primary fire seems to be quite a chore. It's hard to keep your aim on a target long enough, and charging before aiming is a huge 50-50 chance to take. Secondary fire seem to be the way to go for this weapon for now...

Barrett
-Reloading and cocking animations are a bit clunky. You can even see the same mag being reloaded if you mount the weapon, heh (my FOV is 120 if anyone needs to know...).
-Very limited movement when the weapon is mounted. I dunno if this is intentional on Kelly's part or not.
-The weapon model is too far up on the player's screen (I believe this has been complained about in an earlier post). When going into iron sights/scope, it looks as though the player is putting the weapon's scope on his forehead.
-The sounds are a bit underwhelming. I was expecting a loud crack of thunder, heh.
-Recoil needs to be hiked up a notch to promote mounting instead of run-and-gun tactics. It's a little too effective as a shotgun at the moment.
-Bots are also retarded while using this weapon. They tend to jump around while shooting.
-When the player leaves the weapon mounted, well...

I don't mind doing a bit of beta testing, i mean, other than the fact that Betas in my name...

But seriously though, i can give GOOD feedback and would give them one hell of a playthrough. and i like you.

Editted my beta testing feedback. As it turns out, ALL the weapons lose their laser point when firing (even RS's weapons). That's kinda odd...

EDIT:

There seems to be something a bit... 'off' with the scoping animations for the Barrett and Assault Rifle... Cross-referencing it with RS's anims, it seems as though that they came up with a way in which, if the player decides to press the scope key rapidly, the scoping animation doesn't reset at the beginning immediately - it just slowly resets into position.

a lot of the weapons go transparant in the pack i seem to remember that the ah 104 does with damage bonus.thats old news though

i wouldnt mind testing but i cant test it with the variety of mods that the others could or the ammount of maps (i used to have loads but i managed to delete my ut2k4 folder)

Ah, almost forgot. I finally managed to get a (somewhat) clear shot of the floating thingie on the Assault Rifle:

This bug happens not only with this pack (also with standart weapons) but it happens VERY rarely. If you can tell me how to reproduce this bug (when weapon won't go into iron sights) maybe i can fix it in next version of mutator.


WTF? The previous version of pack works good with it. I can analyze this bug only when the pack will be released. Today i don't know is this the bug of my mutator or the bug of the new weapons.

those transparency(in the minigun too) issues are because of the texture(i think). since Sgt. Kelly don't know how to model, he had to remove parts of the gun by texturing.
there is no way to fix it, without a model, I think.
if you notice, when you pick the a damage amp with the M50 tactical it is also transparent.

I dunno how to produce it manually. Sometimes it works... sometimes it doesn't... even during the same game! >__<;

Ah, good eye, the code that modifies firemodes was malfunctioning. It's fixed now.


Standard BW Minigun suffers from this as well.


Reload key cools the gun down. While the BFG is more efficient in its systems, it can overheat.
Actually, it turns out I had a code error in the BFG's secondary fire. Secondary generates heat now.


It's supposed to be difficult to use in primary. Think of it as a spartan laser. A direct fully charged hit is guaranteed to take out your opponent.



Barrett is not completed yet. Do not post material related to the new guns on the forums.

REPORT1:
Ok here is my report:
1.) You can see all the emitters through terrain and static meshes.
2.) Sometimes it is anoying that you cant shoot the minigun while walking.
3.) The BFGs glow is a bit too bright in my opinion.
4.) The X82 is a bit overpowered. It is too easy to kill with it because it has too much damage for how fast it shoots.
5.) Sometimes you see the flamethrower model of the HVC-117.
Maybe you should make the fire animation of the X82 faster (where it loads a new cartridge into the chamber). It looks cool but its not the fire speed is not realistic then.
Some parts of the animation look great but some need improvement...... If you want to know what i mean ill pm it to you .
Its a really cool weapon pack and really fun to play! Especailly the emitters are done in a real profesional way!!!
And the scripts.......... AWESOME!!!!!!

Hmm, I might have a slightly older version of the pack, but like DK said, you're much better off using alt fire for the HMC. Can we make this thing overheat for alt fire? I forgot how the code worked, but I think the primary fire uses the bar for charging, right? If thats the case, clamp primary fire to like 99% being the max it can fill up. This way, the bar will look like it fills up, but it actually won't, and it can't actually overheat with primary fire. Like this, we can make alt fire heat all the way up to 100%. If the charge bar goes up to 100%, it will stop firing and take a while for the gun to cool down.

Either that or you could nerf the damage a bit. While I know the primary fire is extremely destructive (of course I know ), the alt fire is powerful enough in its own right that anything else seems unnecessary. Do you know if you can make it all stopped by armour? Maybe if it doesn't penetrate armour that'd be nice, make it weaker, but I don't think it'd be very simple to add, I don't remember any variables for that.

Ideally, the alt fire should be used to finish off weakened enemies/take out swarms of small infectious parasitic aliens, not too take down fully healthed targets.

Perhaps we should bring the damage down to about what the Glock does, maybe a tad bit more?

Overheat does sound nice for the HMC, I'll try and code it in.
I don't know how to change the armor stoppage, unfortunately. I know how to make the damage ignore armor but not how to modify damage vs. armor.

Day 2 - Keyboard Bashing

Some peculiar things I noticed when pressing two or more keys at the same time...

General Stuffage:
-Not really part of the keyboard bash test, but I noticed that the warning siren for the SMAT and BFG sometimes gets a slowed-down sound...

Particular Stuffage:

Golden Gun
-You can press both Primary and Secondary Fire keys to do some recoilless laser-bullet rampage!!! Just make sure to put the fire mode to Automatic.

Auto-Shotgun
-Cocking still needs a bit of work: Cocking when you first pull out the weapon, not cocking when you still have some ammo left, and the last shell is supposed to remain inside the chamber so the weapon cocks realistically after a full reload.

SMAT
-When you hold the Secondary Fire (Self-destruct) key then press Primary, the charge bar doesn't go down until you load the next shell and press Secondary again.

BFG
-When you self-destruct, your corpse is a skeleton with bloody "sleeves" and "skirt", heh.

Flamer-Plasma
-(Optional) I could really go for a 50% and 75% fire mode for this.

Barrett
-Awesome fixes, Kelly! All it needs now is some animation tweaks. Scoping animation still needs work (now it looks as though you're putting the scope on your right cheek, heh) and RS's code for slow iron sights/scope resetting.

I'll be releasing a separate texture file without transparencies so that if the holes are very bad you can get rid of them.




I've noticed this as well. Now the gun restores pitch to standard levels on select so it should be fixed.


This one's not really a bug and the laser is almost impossible to aim effectively, so it'll stay as is.


This will probably take some coding to fix because the shotgun is a shovel loaded weapon. The gun now cocks when you equip it though.


This has to do with the way the heat system is coded in. Primary fire is halting the cool down process and will need to be changed.





By the way, any comments on the X-82 animations should go to Wangtang since he animated it, not me.

Day 3 - Under the Sea~

Weapons testing involving large bodies of water

General Stuffage: NONE.

Particular Stuffage:

Golden Gun
-Laser has awesome-looking bubble-trails when firing underwater, but I know it's just some sorta bug 'coz it doesn't when you fire it from surface-to-water.

Auto-Shotgun
-Doesn't have bubble-trails AT ALL. As it turns out, even the RS shotguns don't have bubble-trails. This is a seriously overlooked matter.

Skrith Rifle
-Doesn't have water surface explosions when Plasma Bomb makes impact underwater.

SMAT
-For reason, it doesn't fire underwater when you enter the water running and/or jumping. You must walk/crawl real slowly or be in iron sights while entering the water to make it fire.

Minigun
-Doesn't have bubble-trails when firing underwater

BFG
-Doesn't have water surface explosions when Primary fire makes impact underwater.

I'll be honest here, there's probably a reason the Minigun didn't have underwater bubble trails. Many computers would die under that strain of super fast bullets.

If you didn't already know, the gun fires like a shotgun really, it'll do multi trace counts rather than actually firing individual bullets most of the time. Only if the computer is running 60+FPS at all times does it fire like the real deal.

Well, bollocks to that, I suppose...
