Ah, yes. Loved that game to death... Plus their Riot Shield was destroyable, unlike the God-like CS shield that could deflect SNIPER FIRE. WTF!?

There already is a riot shield, I kinda thought it'd be cool to see that as part of BW, too.

well... i don't like the idea of an shield that will deflect some weapons. and i also don't like it to be carried in one hand. lets just make a automatic force-field that will lower the damage by 15-25%.

anyways i don't thing of the equipment to be carried in your hand or so. it must be something automatic, permanent (unless you drop it or die), it must be tactical and not overpowered.

Yeah, I know what you mean, equipment shouldn't be carried in hand, but I would still like to see the riot shield in BW and not just JW. It'd be able to stop some shots, but it would still be destroyable, methinks.

That could be fun, but I sense influence from F.E.A.R. in those ideas.

Perhaps you could only have one piece of equipment at the time, and unless it's passive (i.e. more ammo space) you'd need a special key for it. Then again - BW is already overswamped with options. First fire, Second fire, Third fire, switch firing mode, reload, iron sights... *groan* plus JunkWar binds...

Yeah, theres already a lot of key binds, I think it would work best to just work it into the existing keybinds somehow.

What about an equipment called cyber-eyes? Your eyes are given implants that improves your vision, like being able to switch between night vision, x-ray, infra-red and normal vision. And of course it improves contrast of enemies so they are more visible in the environment.

The only problem is that when your health gets below a certain number, your vision will degrade a bit.

Who said "plus" junkwar binds? You can use your BW controls in JW!

I had some further thoughts about a possible equipment-system when I was posting in the "more ways to use the camera"-thread. A lot of it has been mentioned here previously, but I wanted to wrap up my complete vision:


If an equipment system will be included, it could be turned into a flexible system to create your own "class", with the difference that it won't be as static as a typical class system. All it would take would be two slots, one for a main ability and another one for a secondary one. Each one has a keybind to switch it on and off. Some abilities could use energy. Energy regenerates slowly and can be collected as well (replaces adrenaline). Add grouped loadouts to the mix and any player can create his own "class", dependent on the combination he chooses.

An example for main and secondary types of equipment:
Main equipment would be important abilities that may have a mayor influence on the game. Lets say you pick a Doctor-in-a-box as your main equipment. That thing converts personal energy into MedPack-Pickups you can throw around to heal yourself or your teammates. Eqipment that produces shield-pickups or ammo-pickups would be main equipment as well, so you can't have two of them at the same time. (I know, I know, that sounds a lot like XMP. Why not? Most underrated multiplayer shooter ever.) Other powerful items like cloaking devices or nuclear kamikaze-packs would also be classified as main equipment.
Secondary equipment would be more gimmicky stuff like the camera, or stat-boosting ones, like nano-implants that increase jump-height, or reduce stamina-drain during jumps and sprints when activated. That way BW wouldn't get a static class system like all other class-based mods have (which is boooring), instead it would create a flexible way to choose what fits you best, because effective combinations allow for a wide range of tactics.
Example:

Setting: Imagine an objective-based gametype. We really need one sooner or later anyway, any other form of gametype doesn't seem to fit BW very well. A lot of the weapons can't be used to their full potential in fast-paced DM and CTF matches, but would be perfect for slower-paced tactical stuff. The most effective way to take out speed and force the players to concentrate on tactics would be permadeath, only per round of course. In my opinion, that was the main reason for the incredible success of CS. Before, everyone took more risks because he would respawn a second after death anyway, that didn't leave much room for tactics. By that time, it was a completely new form of multiplayer gaming. Ok, I must admit that I never liked CS, the realistic setting wasn't my cup of tea (I'm a sci-fi freak), but I appreciated the general approach.
Ok, now for the example:
A player who likes guerilla tactics chooses the demoman-loadout (lots of remote charges and mines, grenades, M50 with extra grenades, etc.). Then he picks the cloaking device as primary equipment (explanation below, see *). For secondary equipment, he chooses the camera. Then he places laser remotes and mines at critical passages and deploys normal remotes around the main objective that needs to be defended and a camera that faces the objective. Then he gets to a safe spot, stands still for the cloaking to be more effective and activates his hud-overlay for the camera to see when an enemy gets too close to the objective. Then he can remote-detonate the charge which is closest to the enemy. The camera could get offensive capabilites as well, a cloud of poisonous gas would be nice and fitting (like in Splinter Cell). A shotgun in a camera sounds a bit too strange, imo.

* My approach to the cloaking device: The more the player moves, the better he can be seen, but he will be almost completly invisible when standing still. There is a bot-command somewhere that makes them ignore you, so it could even be useful in instant action. It is always on but slows down energy-regeneration. Pressing its keybind allows to apply semi-cloaking to external items, at the cost of energy. I know, invisible mines and remote charges might be a bit powerful, but could turn out to be of critical importance in objective-based gametypes. In fast-paced matches with respawning it happens a lot that an enemy steps on a mine. But when he only has one life, he will be more careful and will therefore recognize and take out most traps from a distance. That needs to be countered, and what would be better than cloaking the traps? Of course there should still be a balance, maybe a secondary equipment that allows to see cloaked devices and persons.
