This would be more like a vehicle rather than a gun or a feature.

There is a real life minigun (of course not handheld) that fires thousands of bullets per second, even dozens or hundreds of thousands. Science never cease to amaze me!

I bet you'd need quite a bit of armor to survive that thing for more than a second after it starts firing at you.

People would definately be afraid of you if you carried that kind of a gun in deathmatch.

It's an artillery system, similar to MRLS bombardment rockets in that it salvos off a lot of firepower in a very short timeframe to bombard an area. It isn't very accurate but then with that much ammo going downrange it doesn't need to be. They basically load the shells end to end in the tubes and electronically fire them all off in sequence. Reloading probably involves detaching and replacing the whole metalstorm unit, which is heavy. It releases a lot of energy at once - depending on the size of the shells being salvoed, the recoil may lift or flip the deployment vehicle. The problem with the system is that if it misfires, you've got 10,000 rounds sitting in the box right next to each other.

the weapon is impressive, BUT. . .In practical use, the thing would either be a heavy machiengun, if it was set to a low ROF, or a shotgun, unless we want to make it capable of the extremely unrealistic ability to maintain that kind of rate of fire for more than a fraction of a second without melting the barrels. But hey, I'd rather have fun over realism, so whatever.

make it an advanced claymore mine...drop the box on the floor with a laser light like the FP9's, and anything that passes gets 10,000 rounds up the backside

You wouldn't feel anything because you'd die instantly. It is a shame really, it'd be so fun to see a foe suffer that way.
